FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I like the bone-in pork chops for this recipe. I find that it really gives this dish a lot of flavor but if you prefer boneless you can certainly do that. But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.
My absolute favorite side dish with this is mashed potatoes. Rice or egg noodles are also good. I also like to serve it with some steamed vegetables. (like broccoli or carrots) and maybe some Butter Swim Biscuits!
I don’t recommend cooking on high. The meat will not come out as tender. Cooking it low and slow will ensure fall-apart tender pork chops.
You can pretty much us any cream soup your family enjoys. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of onion, cream of mushroom and chicken will all work here.
You could definitely season with pepper but I don’t recommend salt as there is enough salt in the other ingredients.
Where applicable, you could certainly substitute with those options. I prefer low sodium options here because we’re also using packets of pork gravy and onion soup mix which also have sodium in them.
It’s totally optional but I really think the gravy works better when thickened.
I find this recipe works better in an oval slow cooker instead of a round one. The chops cook more evenly.
Store leftovers in an airtight container and put into the refrigerator. Eat within two days. I don’t recommend freezing leftovers.

HOW TO MAKE TO MAKE CROCK POT PORK CHOPS
In a 5-6 quart slow cooker, combine onion soup mix, chicken broth, cream of chicken soup and pork gravy mix. Whisk together until combined. Don’t worry about any lumps, they will go away during cooking. Season both sides of the chops with a little bit of garlic powder.
Place pork chops into the slow cooker. Do your best to spread them out and cover with the gravy mixture. Cover and cook on low about 4-6 hours
Just before the pork chops are done. Whisk together the corn starch and cold water in a small bowl.
Once it is smooth, pour it in with your pork chops in the slow cooker and stir gently. Cover and switch the slow cooker to high and cook for another 30 minutes (until gravy has thickened.) Then serve with mashed potatoes!

Notes
- This is one of those fix-it and forget it type crock pot recipes. It helps to have a digital crock pot these days. You can cook it for a certain amount of time so and then it will automatically go to a keep-warm setting.
- I like the bone-in pork chops for this recipe. I find that it really gives this dish a lot of flavor but if you prefer boneless you can certainly do that. But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, a salad, steamed broccoli or mixed vegetables.

I made this for dinner tonight and it was fantastic. I used 1/2 – 3/4-inch thick boneless pork chops. They were originally frozen and I thawed them in the microwave, but probably could have cooked them from frozen if I’d had more time. I used the onion soup mix, reduced-sodium chicken broth, a can of cream of chicken with mushroom soup (would have preferred reduced-sodium but the store was out) and a packet of reduced-sodium brown gravy mix. I also sprinkled the chops with California blend garlic powder (garlic powder, paprika, parsley) as that was what I had on hand. I mixed the soups, broth and gravy mix in my 7-quart slow cooker then added the chops. My cooker was a bit big for this as it looked like everything only came up about an inch up from the bottom of the crock but my chops were completely covered with the sauce. I cooked everything on low for 3.5 hours, then mixed the water and cornstarch, added that mixture to the crock, then stirred and let that cook another 20-30 minutes on high. The sauce thickened quickly and nicely. I served the chops with mashed potatoes and peas and carrots. My oldest said it was very good, and my husband, who doesn’t usually comment on my new recipes except to eat it, even mentioned this was good.
I was surprised at how quickly the chops cooked, but I attribute that to the fact they were 1) boneless, 2) relatively thin, and 3) cooked in a larger cooker. My chops were admittedly a little dry, but there was plenty of sauce to spoon over them and still have some for the mashed potatoes. There was some saltiness present even given the reduced-sodium items I used, so next time (yes, there will be a next time!) I will probably try using water instead of the broth to see if that helps curb the saltiness. I will also use 1-inch thick chops instead, and maybe try cooking this in my 3-4 quart slow cooker instead.
All in all, great recipe, thank you for sharing!!
Would there be any advantage to sear searing the pork chops a bit first, then putting them in the crockpot and continuing with the recipe.
Hi Janet, it just depends on how much time you want to spend throwing all this together. You could absolutely brown it first. Just don’t overcook while browning because pork chops can get tough very quickly.
Made this yesterday and it was delicious!
Thank you for coming back to comment Jackie! So happy you enjoyed it!
Could I brown the chops before putting them in the pot. Gonna try the recipe regardless, it sounds AMAZING!!!
Absolutely! Just don’t overcook. You don’t want tough pork chops 🙂
Could this recipe be done on high for 2-3 hours? I want to try making it for tomorrow for a lunch. And well, this recipe just looks too good to pass and find another one lol
I have made this recipe many times my boyfriend loves it. I normally use brown gravy mix instead of pork gravy so that it doesn’t have an overly porky flavor that can be overpowering. When I made it with the brown gravy it was 10/10
Hi Heather! Thank you so much for taking the time to come back and leave feedback. Love that you switched it up with flavors that you like!!
I want to try this recipe. I made pork chops in the crock pot with apples and honey but they were really dry. I was looking for one that had gravy and this one sounds perfect. Thank you and I will let you know after I make it how it turned out.
Hi Tina! I promise these will not be dry! 🙂
could I use brown gravy instead?
Hi Sissy, if you like brown gravy – go for it! 🙂
Can you use frozen pork chops?
I don’t see why not.
Would you cook it longer with frozen chops?
Hi Caraline, it depends on how thick the frozen chops are. If they are super thick – then possibly. If not, then I’d probably keep the time the same – perhaps adding on an additional 30 minutes. You may have to play this one by ear. 🙂
Could I layer the chops on top of one another? I have quite a big family and I have a semi small slow cooker. The chops are well covered in the gravy, but I’m afraid it won’t cook right since I had to layer them.
Hi Courtney, it should be okay. As long as you have gravy in between, it should be fine. 🙂
Has anybody made this in the crock pot for 7 hours? I leave the house at 8:30 and don’t come home until around 5pm.
Thanks!
Hi Alma, You can do it for 7 hours but you will want a thick bone-in pork chop. 🙂
Great recipe, been making pork chops this way for years!
Love hearing that – thank you Anna!!
This sounds delish! I have everything except the dry pork gravy. Am I good without it?
Hi Angie. You certainly could but you’d be missing out on a bit of flavor. 😉
Hello this recipe looks amazing. I would like to use boneless pork chops and cook in the Ninja Foodi. I saw the post about the Instant Pot. Did you pressure cook in Instant Pot for 18 minutes then natural release? Would the time be different for boneless pork chops?
Could you add small potatoes to this?
So good, especially over mashed potatoes.
Thank you Becki! Gotta make use of that gravy! 🙂
My family loved it. They said the gravy was great!!
Woo hoo!! Thanks so much Alesia. Love hearing that!
This is one of my family’s favorite recipes! I make it at least twice a month. Even my picky 3-year-old gets excited when he hears that pork chops are for dinner!
Alyssa – yay!! Loved reading this!! That is one of the highest praises – when the picky 3-year old loves it!! Adorable!!
For some reason every time I make it, especially today. It always ends up tasting like corn starch.. I always follow the instructions.. any suggestions?
Lacey, I have never had this issue (since cornstarch doesn’t have a flavor) but it may be that you are just sensitive to it. I know people who are super sensitive to ingredients like baking powder (they will sometimes say it tastes like aluminum.) So, you could use a few substitutes for thickening your sauce. You could use a super-fine flour like Wondra brand flour. Or, perhaps try using wheat flour or arrowroot. It might be something you can play around with. Hope that helps!
The soup is too salty for us because of health reasons. What do you suggest we could do in place of the soup? This recipe looks absolutely delicious and I use my crock pot a great deal. Your suggestion would be appreciated so much. Thank you!
Hey Betty, just grab the low or no sodium options. There are so many varieties available these days. 🙂
Made these last week and we loved them. The meat was so tender and the gravy was wonderful. I am making them again this week.. Thank you for the recipe.
This is one of my most favorite recipes on my site. So happy you love them too!!

Maggie it is for one serving of pork chop, gravy and a side of potatoes. 🙂 Although, I always recommend folks use their trusted nutritional calculators as this is just provided as a general guideline and should not be used for people with health concerns. Please consult your own nutritional calculators.
Could this be modified for the instantpot and if so, what would you recommend?
I just made it in my instapot. I browned the chops
In just a bit of oil then set it on 18 min with a
Natural release. Added in the cornstarch and
Water and set it for 5 more minutes. It’s was so
Good and tender!!
Thanks so much for replying with an answer Angie!
This is the second time I’m making this love l
Love this recipe❤️❤️
Woo hoo! That is so great to hear Deborah! Thank you for coming back to let me know!
Can I double this recipe?
Hi Dawn, I don’t see why not. Just make sure you have a large enough crock pot to accommodate. ????
I always double mine but still only use 1 packet of the onion soup mix!
Thanks Kristina for your helpful feedback!
