FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I like the bone-in pork chops for this recipe. I find that it really gives this dish a lot of flavor but if you prefer boneless you can certainly do that. But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.
My absolute favorite side dish with this is mashed potatoes. Rice or egg noodles are also good. I also like to serve it with some steamed vegetables. (like broccoli or carrots) and maybe some Butter Swim Biscuits!
I don’t recommend cooking on high. The meat will not come out as tender. Cooking it low and slow will ensure fall-apart tender pork chops.
You can pretty much us any cream soup your family enjoys. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of onion, cream of mushroom and chicken will all work here.
You could definitely season with pepper but I don’t recommend salt as there is enough salt in the other ingredients.
Where applicable, you could certainly substitute with those options. I prefer low sodium options here because we’re also using packets of pork gravy and onion soup mix which also have sodium in them.
It’s totally optional but I really think the gravy works better when thickened.
I find this recipe works better in an oval slow cooker instead of a round one. The chops cook more evenly.
Store leftovers in an airtight container and put into the refrigerator. Eat within two days. I don’t recommend freezing leftovers.

HOW TO MAKE TO MAKE CROCK POT PORK CHOPS
In a 5-6 quart slow cooker, combine onion soup mix, chicken broth, cream of chicken soup and pork gravy mix. Whisk together until combined. Don’t worry about any lumps, they will go away during cooking. Season both sides of the chops with a little bit of garlic powder.
Place pork chops into the slow cooker. Do your best to spread them out and cover with the gravy mixture. Cover and cook on low about 4-6 hours
Just before the pork chops are done. Whisk together the corn starch and cold water in a small bowl.
Once it is smooth, pour it in with your pork chops in the slow cooker and stir gently. Cover and switch the slow cooker to high and cook for another 30 minutes (until gravy has thickened.) Then serve with mashed potatoes!

Notes
- This is one of those fix-it and forget it type crock pot recipes. It helps to have a digital crock pot these days. You can cook it for a certain amount of time so and then it will automatically go to a keep-warm setting.

But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.
- Serve with mashed potatoes, rice, a salad, steamed broccoli or mixed vegetables.

Can this be done on the stove, and not in the crockpot? Just found the recipe, and would love to make for dinner ???? tonight. Thanks so much!
Hi Sherry! You could but I don’t think the pork chops come out as tender. By cooking in the crock pot for hours, they practically fall apart and are so tender!
Soooo delicious, making it again!!
Thank you so much Brittany!
Hi Brandie! I was wondering if I would be able to double the recipe. I’m dealing with severe, 24 hour morning sickness, and I’m hoping to make enough for my family to get two meals out of this, and only having to cook it once. Thanks for your help!
Comfort food at it’s best. Will make this again
Thank you so very much Beth!
Hi-
Can you use frozen pork chops?
Thank you!!
Hi Michelle, you can. Just keep in mind the frozen chops will add a bit more liquid to the final cooked dish. Keep an eye on the cook time 🙂
Yummmm! Everyone loved this recipe. The only change I made was searing the chops in a little butter on my grill pan to give them a bit of browning before putting them in the crockpot. I also did not end up adding the cornstarch at the end to thicken the gravy. It was wonderful as it was. Everything turned out amazing!! Thanks for the recipe!!
Perfect! Love hearing that Amy – thank you!!
Hi! I dont have corn strach. Can I use flour instead?
Thanks for the recipe. It was delicious. I added sliced onions and mushrooms for some extra heartiness.
Love those additions! Thanks so much Alyce!
Flour can get a little lumpy. Corn starch is way more smooth but you can use flour in a pinch. Just be sure to whisk it really well. 🙂
Love this recipie and so does my family
Away to make and taste great.
Thank you so much Lori!!
MADE THIS “AS WRITTEN” LAST NIGHT AND I MUST SAY…….IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!
Thank you so much for coming back to review, Janet!
Hi, I’m going to make this tomorrow and I need to know if I can use the cream of chicken soup ‘without mushrooms’. One of my family members doesn’t like them. Also, do the chicken broth and chicken soup have to be low sodium or will that make it have too much of a salty taste? I’ll be back to let you know how it turned out. After all the 5 star reviews given, I can’t wait to taste it! Thank you for your help!
Hi Fran – yes, you could absolutely use the cream of chicken soup. If it helps, I cannot stand mushrooms and can never taste them in recipes like this where it is all mixed in together. But I know how some picky eaters can be. 🙂
what can i use in place of the cornstarch to thicken? that’s the only ingredient i forgot to grab at the store!): would flour be okay?
Can I use boneless thin pork chops? That is all I have and I’m trying to use them in the Crock-Pot.
You could. Just cut down on the cooking time a bit. You don’t want the pork chops to get tough.
Am dying to make this, just have a quick questions…Can I season and brown the chops and fry for just a few minutes then throw them into the crockpot with the rest of they ingredients.
Thanks,
Hi Janet – you sure can. Just don’t cook for too long so they don’t get tough from overcooking. 🙂
this recipe is fantastic. I would like to try it doing a pork loin. Do you think that would work as well? Do you think I should maybe slice of the pork loin so that all of the meat would get the same seasoning? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Roberta – a pork loin would certainly work. You could do it whole or sliced. I think if you slice it – each piece would get more of that yummy flavor absorbed into it.
I made this recipe with the pork chops and it was absolutely wonderful. I now plan to try the same ingredients but using a pork loin instead of the chops. Any reason that would not work? Do you have any suggestions. Should I slice up the pork loin in order for the seasonings to get throughout the meat?rrob
This recipe is so good! I’ve done it with pork chops and a pork shoulder roast. The roast slices and doesn’t shred which is awesome, and the flavor is amazing.
So delicious and super easy to prepare! Have made this several times and my family loves it
5 star
I have a crockpot casserole. It’s 9×13. Can I do this recipe in that? This looks amazing.
OMG! This recipe is DELICIOUS!! While it was cooking, I didn’t think it smelled very good and I thought it would be to salty, but it wasn’t. The pork was sooo tender and after the addition of the corn starch slurry, the gravy was perfect! When I googled smothered chops, I’m glad this was the recipe I chose to cook! Thanks for a lot of future good meals for my family. This is going to be a favorite!
Can I cook on high? How long would you recommend? Also, I don’t have the gravy mix and am going to try it without it. We will see how it turns out.
can i use butterfly pork chops instead of bone in chops?
Hi April! You could. I recommend the bone-in for more flavor and so they don’t get tough with the longer cooking time. 🙂
You have a two hour window as to when the chops will be done, when should you do the slurry? Closer to 5 and a half hours? Also, I have 9 chops. Would i double everything? Thanks so much. Sounds delicious!
Hi Rachel, you can do the slurry maybe 20 minutes before you are ready to serve. And yes, I would double everything. I suppose it depends on how much gravy you want. This makes lots of gravy so you can also use it over mashed potatoes. Hope that helps! 🙂
Can I double this recipe?
I made this with thick boneless pork chops and added a onion. I used cream of celery soup. This was Delicious!!! My whole family loved it!!!
