FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is apple pie spice made of?

Most pre-made apple pie spice recipes include cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Some brands also include ginger and/or cardamom. My recipe includes all those ingredients plus a little bit of ground cloves. I think this combination of warm spices really takes your baked goods to the next level of deliciousness!

What are some good recipes to use this in?

Anything apple! Here are a few apple recipes we love to use our homemade spice mixture in. Note: if an apple recipe calls for cinnamon and nutmeg (and maybe also allspice and cloves) you can just substitute those spices for apple pie spice for an extra kick of flavor.

What if I can’t find cardamom?

Don’t worry, just add an additional 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon and ½ teaspoon of ground nutmeg to make up the difference.

What is the difference between apple pie spice and pumpkin pie spice?

Not a lot actually! Pumpkin pie spice usually does not contain cardamom. However, if you don’t have pumpkin pie spice, you can easily substitute with apple pie spice.

How to store homemade Apple Pie Spice?

Keep your spice mix in an airtight container for up to 3-6 months as long as it’s in a cool and dark place. I like to use a mason jar.
