If you enjoyed the Jell-o Poke Cake then you are really going to enjoy this recipe.
I have found that this cake is a hit with everyone. Especially the menfolk and the little ones.
What isn't to love?

Pudding and cake all together in harmony.
World peace through cake...one can dream.
This is an absolutely perfect weeknight dessert for the family and it is just so ridiculously easy to make that you can easily remember all the recipe ingredients when you go to the grocery store to pick up what you need.
Don't you hate when you do that?
You get to the store, realize you forgot the recipe, and can only remember half the things that were in it? Drives me nuts because it's not like that is the only thing I gotta get when I go to the store. I'm usually a pretty good list-maker...usually.
I'm sure most of you who have smartphones don't encounter that problem but I'm still living
in the dark ages here so, ya know, it's an issue for me.

My husband and son found this little plaque while out shopping.

Look at my precious baby. Story of my life right here...

Ingredients:
1 Box Chocolate Cake Mix
Ingredients needed to make cake (usually eggs, oil and water)
2 (4 oz.)packages of Instant Oreo pudding
4 cups milk (2% or higher)
Crushed Oreo Cookies (optional)
Make cake mix according to directions and bake in a well-greased 9x13 pan (I use the nonstick spray that has flour in it).
Just before cake is done, start making pudding.
In a medium bowl, add milk to pudding mixture and continue to whisk until most of the lumps are removed. Let pudding mixture sit for about 2 minutes.
You want it to thicken slightly so it isn't overly runny but not fully thickened into pudding.

When cake is finished, while still warm, poke holes all over cake (about 1-inch) intervals
using a wooden spoon handle or a straw.
Pour pudding mixture over warm cake, making sure to aim for the holes.
(Um, not easy to take a picture while you're pouring)
Spread it out with a spoon and gently push down on the pudding to help get it into the holes.
Then put the cake in the refrigerator to allow it to cool completely. About an hour.
Once it is set, top with crushed Oreo cookies

Cook’s Note: Also, feel free to add whipped topping (Cool Whip) onto the top of the pudding later once the cake has cooled. Then top with crushed cookies.
Enjoy!

Mmmm! How much powdered sugar....if we're using? :)
ReplyDeleteMmmmm.....
ReplyDeleteI made this with chocolate pudding once but I love the contrast with the white Oreo pudding.
This looks so yummy and different! I can't wait to make it! I think I might try it and share at camp this weekend!!
ReplyDeleteHey Julie, I didn't even see that I typed that in there. Thank you for catching that! I have a recipe for yellow cake mix and chocolate pudding. And for that, I add 1/2 cup of confectioner's sugar to the pudding mix. I think for the Oreo Pudding, you don't really need the added sugar (but you could certainly add it if you feel it needs more sweetness).
ReplyDeleteHaha...I highly doubt it would need more sweetness. I thought maybe it was in there to make it more "frostingy" lol
ReplyDeleteSadly no instant pudding like this in Australia but it looks like a fantastic dessert. So moist and delicious! It will be on my list when I visit back home!
ReplyDeleteWow that really looks good Brandie. I know my son would love this one! (and me too). Have a great day. If you have time, stop on over and link up your favorite Blueberry Recipe! xo
ReplyDeleteOreo instant pudding... I've seen it and thought about how delicious it must be. I really need to give this a try. Looks and sounds amazing. Yummy! Have a great weekend.

Happy Friday!
OMG.. this sounds too good to be true! This is pure genius Bran! We are having friends over Saturday night for a BBQ and now I know what dessert I'm serving!!! Thanks girl : )
ReplyDeleteI didn't know about Oreo pudding. (I just found out Oreos came in flavors!) This looks like a great cake for my granddaughter and I to make together -- let's me be a kid again.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered poke cakes! The one I saw was with a strawberry jello, but this with pudding looks even better! Yes please!1
ReplyDeleteOh My Yumminess Brandie this looks so good!!!!
ReplyDeleteI've never had a pudding cake but this looks fun to make and delicious to eat!
ReplyDeleteThis is my kind of cake, for real! I love everything about it! Beautiful and tasty..just perfect!!!!

ReplyDeleteGreat cake Brandie-keep 'em coming-Yum!
Oh I haven't made this cake in years! Thanks for the reminder. I am excited to try it with the Oreo pudding. Yum.
ReplyDeleteOh I love this one even more!! Nice job, I am practically in love with oreos so this is just RIGHT up my alley
ReplyDeleteOh No... Really? I think the button just popped off my jeans by reading this! haha! LOVE IT!! This is amazing, I was just thinking the other day wondering if you could do a poke cake with pudding. You must read minds! ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of pudding and cake in one dessert. Perfect for a BBQ or party, and so versatile. Just pick your favorite combos, and bake away.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I bought some of that oreo pudding (impulse buy) at the grocery store a few weeks ago and I had no idea what to do with it! Now I know, I am making this cake!! Looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteOh, heavens. How fabulous is this?? And so pretty! Not that I'd be looking at it too long - too busy eating. ;)
ReplyDeleteI made an Oreo cake for my brother's graduation a couple of weeks ago and used some of that Oreo pudding. Ohmygoodness it's trouble. It's so good! This cake looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteWell now I think I should have been paying more attention in the pudding aisle. I never even knew there was such a thing as oreo pudding! Now that I know it exists, I'll have to get some and make this cake. :)
ReplyDeletewhoa! Oreo Pudding? Seriously? Where have I been? This looks delicious, Brandie!
ReplyDeleteOh this looks so good. What a great idea! I love things that are simple and yummy! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteOh my you really outdid yourself this time. I wanted to jump into my computer screen and take a bit old bite. I bookmarked this one. For later.
ReplyDeleteI have 2 boxes of Oreo pudding and a chocolate cake mix in the pantry calling my name NOW!! Thanks for sharing this recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteWorld Peace through cake.

ReplyDeleteThis looks so delicious!. Sadly there's no Jello nor Duncan Hines here in the UK.
ReplyDeleteooo, I can see my kids jumping on this one. Thanks so much for it! Definite buzz :-)
ReplyDeleteNew follower from foodbuzz. Just had to stop by and say how great this looks.
ReplyDeletePerfect cake for me.
ReplyDeleteOh Brandie! This is an amazing, amazing recipe. I've never seen it before. I've made the jello kind, but the pudding variety would be so much more my passion. I may not even share this with family!
ReplyDeleteTotally putting this on my menu for dessert next week. Thanks for such a great and easy idea!
ReplyDeleteI was cleaning out my RSS feeds and I saw this post! OMG does that look GOOOOOOD! I think I even have some cake mix and stray boxes of pudding in my pantry -- instant dessert for the win! Thanks for your inspiration!

ReplyDeleteOh man I didn't even know they made Oreo pudding! Anything Oreo does not last long in my house! Going to have to try this one! Thanks!

This is a perfect desert recipe for me! I don't have a lot of spare time and need quick and easy things to make for events! Can't wait to try this one :D

That looks so yummy! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

Question for ya.... Now IF there were any cake leftover after serving this, would it need to be refrigerated? I'm guessing so due to the pudding but hope it doesn't make the cake taste funny being kept cold.
ReplyDeletealrs, yes it does need to be kept refrigerated :)
ReplyDeleteSOUNDS SO GOOD WOULD THIS CAKE BE OKAY TO TAKE WITH ME IN CAR 2 HOURS AWAY
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, just make sure the car is not too hot. The pudding may do weird things in a hot car..LOL. As soon as you get to your destination, if it isn't going to be eaten right away, put it in the fridge to keep cool until time to eat. :)
ReplyDeleteOkay, I just found your blog through Pinterest and I have to say you are my new favoritest person in the world!! I enjoy cooking (although I am still recovering from my Christmas dinner marathon), but my husband is SOOOO unadventurous (sp?) when it comes to food! If he could eat meat, potatoes, cheese, and chocolate cake everyday for the rest of his life, there would not be a happier man on earth! So many of your recipes look absolutely delicious without being too out there! Thank you a million times over for eliminating the never ending conversation of "what do you want for dinner, I don't know-what do you want for dinner, I don't know-we have a package of hamburger meat, How about meat and potatoes..." I can't wait to get home from work and make dinner now, I have the next two weeks already planned out:D
ReplyDeleteHi Just me! Your comment had me cracking up!! So funny! I am so thrilled you found some recipes you and your hubby would enjoy. Are you sure we didn't marry the same guy? LOL. I know the feeling!! Let me know how everything turns out for ya!
ReplyDeleteHello, I made it for the first time but I think I let the pudding thicken a little. I hope that's not a problem :/
ReplyDeleteAnonymous - it's not really a problem. The pudding may not soak down into the holes really well but it doesn't affect the flavor :o)
ReplyDeleteI just repinned this. My mouth is watering! With the resolution to eat healthier, I don't guess there is any way to do this with healthier ingredients? Will skim milk, sugar free pudding, etc. not set as well?
ReplyDeleteMy family loves dirt dessert, so I knew they would love this cake. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful recipe. I took it to a New Year's Eve party and it was enjoyed by all!
ReplyDeletei jusst found your recipe on Pinterest the other day and decided to make it for our New Years Day family get-together. Oh my goodness -- sooooo easy and soooo delicious! EVERYONE loved it -- this will be my new "go to" dessert for sure! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm just so thrilled y'all are enjoying this one! We love it too.
ReplyDeleteAs for making it healthier, I've never actually tried to be honest. I suppose you could give it a try using sugar-free and skim milk. I can't honestly say I know how it would taste but you could certainly try it out. If you do, please let me know!
Can't wait to try out the sugar free version. My husband is a pretty severe diabetic and my oldest son who is 3 is autistic and neither of them should have sugar. So I plan to give it a whirl and see how it tastes. I'm not a big sugar free fan myself but it's only fair to them. Thanks for this recipe:)
ReplyDeleteK I was hoping to get some feedback to those that have made this. Would this be something that could be made in a bundt pan? Would the pudding set up enough when you take the cake out of the pan? :-) ???
ReplyDeletePinning this on Pinterest. I love this. I bet I could eat the whole thing in one sitting!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight, and it was pretty good! I did have a slight problem with the pudding not really going down in the cake, but I think that was because I let it set up too much before I poured it, and I don't think the holes were large enough. That said, the pudding made an excellent frosting, and I will be making this again :) Thanks for the recipe. By the way, I had pudding left over because I didn't notice that I'd bought one 4 oz box and one 5 oz...what a shame! Anyway, thanks again!
ReplyDeleteI used 1% milk for the pudding, and I would suggest whole or maybe 2% the pudding got watery when it set! It was still good, just would be much better with whole milk!
ReplyDeleteI have the cake in the oven now, could not find Oreo pudding, am trying white chocolate with crushed Oreos hope it tastes good!?
ReplyDeleteGlad y'all are enjoying this one!! Crissy - that is definitely why I put in the instructions to go with 2% or higher with the milk, anything less and it's kinda just like adding water to the pudding mix. But I'm still glad it turned out edible anyway ;o)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, I've made this with the white chocolate pudding and it tastes really good with it! Then just put crushed oreos on top - yum!
 only add the 4 cups of milk to the dry pudding mix and disregard the instructions on the box?
ReplyDeleteCarrie, yes 2 packages of pudding mix and 4 cups of milk. I believe the back of the directions call for those same amounts (2 cups of milk per box of pudding). You want the pudding just starting to thicken slightly but not too thick to where you can't still pour it. Hope that helps! :)
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight and it was amazingly yummy!! Can't wait to eat the leftovers!
ReplyDeleteThat is SO great to hear! I'm so happy you liked this recipe!! Thank you for letting me know! :)
ReplyDeleteMade this again last night, and it turned out so much better! The secret was that I used a newer box of cake mix--I think the last one had been in my cupboard for a year?!?, and I didn't make up the pudding until I pulled the cake out of the oven. Yummy!
ReplyDeleteKristin - glad you gave it another shot and had success!! So happy to hear that!!
ReplyDeleteI am going to make this for a party tomorrow. Is it okay to make the day before? Do you keep it in the fridge until ready to serve it?
ReplyDeleteKathy, it is okay to make the day before (just don't put the crushed oreos on top until right before serving. You don't want those to get soggy. Just cover the cake with plastic wrap and keep it in the fridge until ready to serve. :)
ReplyDeleteCant wait to taste this!! I made it for the super bowl tomorrow night!!!!
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight for a super bowl party tomorrow. It looks yummy, can't wait to try it! Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteHope everyone at your party enjoys it!!!
ReplyDeleteHi! I saw this recipe at Pinterest too (http://pinterest.com/pin/166914729909180759/) but I live in Sweden and it's not easy to find Jell-os - what is "oreo cookies n' creme"? Is it simple cream pudding, like bavarois, with crushed oreos mixed in, or what? What could I do - from scratch - to replace it?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this yummy recipe! I just started a blog that reviews recipes found on Pinterest, and I thought I'd let you know your recipe is here: http://pineatreview.wordpress.com/2012/02/10/oreo-puddin-poke-cake/ (I make a point to give credit and links to you throughout.)
ReplyDelete-Denise
Thanks for posting this recipe! It was so easy to make & sooo delicious!
ReplyDeleteDo you think you could do this as cupcakes? Maybe fill the cups only halfway so when they bake, they don't go over the liners? My friend wants this as cupcakes for her baby shower. I was going to top it with cool whip and put the Oreo crumbs on top!
ReplyDeleteWhen poking through the cake, do you poke through all the way to the bottom, till it reaches the pan? Or, while poking, do you stop when you are nearly towards the bottom, so you don't go all the way through? Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments!
ReplyDeleteBrittni, I've never made this into cupcakes. You would have to act super quick because the pudding will setup on ya as you do it. You'd have to poke all your holes, then work quickly to get the pudding in them all. That instant pudding will be really liquidy for the first couple minutes, then it starts setting up fairly quick. I like the idea of cool whip on top!
Jamie, I just poke almost all the way down. The cake will smush down as you poke it so it will prevent you from poking a hole through the bottom unless you push super hard and twist and turn as you go. I hope that helps!
I REALLY want to try this cake out!! But until I can remember to pick up Oreo pudding... my Pinterest feature post will have to do!! http://instantmommie.blogspot.com/
ReplyDeleteI love the fact that you took pictures of all the things that will be needed. It makes it easy to know just what to get! Thanks I will follow your receipes!
ReplyDeleteCan you make this the night before? Or is it better to make an hour or so before you serve it?
ReplyDeleteIde, that is a good question. To be perfectly honest, I've never made it the day before but I don't see why you couldn't. Just make sure you cover it very tightly before putting it in the fridge. And I wouldn't put the crushed oreos on top until right before serving so they stay crunchy. :)
ReplyDeleteHi! I was to make this for my husbands birthday. Do you think this would set up if I use a cheesecake spring form pan? I think it would be pretty to see the contrast on the sides of the cake. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Cher! Thank you for your comment. I have never tried this with a springform pan. You don't really see the contrast between cake and pudding until you cut into it. Not really sure how it would look coming out of a springform pan...
ReplyDeleteHi- I am your newest follower- Saw this on Pinterest. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis was really good. After reading the comments, next time, I will wait to add the crushed oreos to each serving. .. I also used 2 round cake pans as my 9x13 was preoccupied with lasagna! Lol thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI found you on Pinterest. L♥ve! So glad you have more! I am going to try so many of these! http://pinterest.com/pin/239887117621619090/
ReplyDeleteWell like everyone else I found your site thru pinterest! I have your no-bake macaroni recipe in the oven as I type and the ingredients for the oreo cake are laid out and that goes in next! Tonight's Sunday dinner has been on my mind since Tuesday!!!!
ReplyDeleteCan you use the cooking type of pudding? My mother can not have the instant pudding mixture - have to boil the milk for her...
ReplyDeleteSo they make a Cook and Serve Oreo Cookie Pudding? I'm not really sure. I don't see why you couldn't use it for this. Just don't pour it on the cake while it is boiling hot. Also, if the pudding is too thick as you pour it on the cake, it will not go through the holes. That's really the key with this. You don't want the pudding to be too thin but it can't be thick and set up yet. If you can't find the Oreo flavor, you can always use White Chocolate flavor and then add Oreos to it (just make sure you use the larger size boxes).
ReplyDeleteYou are great! Thanks. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteOmg this looks so delicious! So excited to make this. I was just wondering if when making the pudding you could use skim milk? Will it affect how the pudding sets?
ReplyDeleteI made this cake today and it came out great. It was easy to make and quick treat. Thank you for sharing this recipe!
ReplyDeleteHi-does the cake need to be kept in the refrigerator after completion or is it safe to leave out?
ReplyDeletethis is soooo yummy!!! made for easter tomorrow... but i had to try a lil spoonful... goodness gracious it's awesome :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks SO good. My kids would adore this!!
ReplyDeleteWe made this but used cheesecake pudding and then topped it with cherry pie filling. YUMMY!!
ReplyDeleteThis is now the most requested birthday cake in our house! Thanks for a great recipe. Plus I posted it on my blog. www.lovingalmosteverymoment.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!
Assuming this could me done as a layer cake.
ReplyDeleteMaking this tonight for a '31' Party at my house...I'm sure the Ladies wil {{LOVE}}!!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and OMG it is soooo delicious! I used the Betty Crocker Super Moist Chocolate Fudge cake mix and bought mini Oreos to put one on each slice of cake instead of the crumble. So cute, easy, and yummy! An instant favorite in our house. Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteHas anyone made these as cupcakes I want to make these for my crafting group tomorrow morning and cupcakes would be best no need for plates and forks....since I'm bring ice cream with cones to go with these.....Any quick reply would be great Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, this looks amazing. I may have to try this for a friend's upcoming birthday. She'll never believe I didn't buy it at the store!
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to thank you for this recipe, and I know people posted earlier (a long time ago) about making this healthier and sugar free so also wanted to share that today I made this recipe using Pilsbury sugar free yellow cake mix, sugar free banana cream instant pudding mix, and skim milk with sugar free Murray's vanilla wafers on top and my family LOVED IT!
ReplyDeleteCaroline - that is fantastic! I love hearing about all the different flavor combinations or sugar free combos everyone is coming up with. It sounds delicious. Also, it helps give other people ideas on how they can do it to so it's very helpful! Thank you so much for letting me know how it turned out for you!
ReplyDeleteMade this today for my son's birthday. I had the same issue as others - it didn't seep into cake. I poked the cake and then made the pudding up and applied immediately. I used whole milk so perhaps that makes it too thick. In any case, it ended up being pudding on top of a cake mix. Not what I was going for but guess what ... my family didn't care --- they loved it. Topped with coarsely chopped oreos.
ReplyDeleteI just made this and am waiting for it to set before I add the crushed oreos on top. We are having a staff meeting tomorrow night and I made this for a co-worker's birthday...her favorite sweet happens to be Oreos! I didn't know that until after I had decided to make this. I'm excited to see how it turns out! I'll just have to keep my husband away from it!
ReplyDeleteI made this and its delicious! The only thing I would do different is take the cake out and poke holes before you even start making the pudding. I made the pudding and then poked the holes and my pudding thickened before I could pour it on the cake. So my pudding is more like a frosting but it still tastes amazing!

ReplyDeleteDearest Country Cook,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and all your yummy recipes. Your recipe for the homemade macaroni and cheese(no cook macaroni) is in the oven as I speak.
This cake recipes sounds wonderful. I do have a question for you. I will be hosting a graduation party for my son in July. Instead of a bakery cake, I would like to make several of your poke cake recipes. I'm just wondering though if they would hold up sitting out on the table for so long...5 hours under a pavilion in the woods. Should they sit on ice?
Hi Just Me! So nice to hear from you! Thank you so much for your sweet comment :)
ReplyDeleteI think 5 hours out in the heat would probably be too long. Maybe an hour or too but because of the milk in the pudding, I would worry about it turning bad. If it's possible and you can keep it on ice, I think that would be best.
I hope that helps! Congratulations to your son!
This sounds awesome! I want to make it for a camping trip this weekend....but if I make Thursday, will it still be okay to eat Saturday? Has anyone tried freezing it?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I wanted to make this cake for my Dad for Father's Day tomorrow, but I couldn't find Oreo Instant Pudding at my grocery store. Is this a commonly sold pudding?
ReplyDeleteHi Hayley, sorry I'm late in responding. For some reason I missed this comment when you posted it a few days ago! I'm able to find it easily around here. They sell it at my local Walmart and Kroger. I tell folks who can't find it to use the White Chocolate Pudding instead. Then just add crushed Oreos on top or in the pudding.
ReplyDeleteI made this Tuesday night (added the crushed Oreos a couple hours before serving) for a cookout yesterday. Sadly, for my family there were no leftovers to bring home! :( It was the first dessert to disappear at the cookout. I will definitely make this again. It is so easy and so yummy.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason my Kroger's no longer carries the Oreo pudding but I did find it at my Walmart.
So happy you liked it!! Thank you so very much for the comments!!
ReplyDeleteI made this Monday night for dessert to go along with cube steak and gravy, homemade mashed potatoes, green beans and biscuits. :)
ReplyDeleteIt was super easy and really delicious. I let it sit in the refrigerator for about three hours before we ate it, but it was actually much better the next day after chilling overnight.
I will certainly make this yummy and easy recipe again. Thanks! I just came across your site on Sunday, and I plan to try out more of your recipes soon!
Thank You for sharing. Today is my boy 12 birthday n I'm gonna try it i know he will love it
ReplyDeletei have done this with jello using yellow and white cake. would sometimes put sprinkles or candies in the jello on top. if it was for a party i would put whip cream on top and dress it up fancy. the kids all loved it. sometimes the kids called the cake the rainbow cake because i would use several different jellos to make it.
ReplyDeleteOh yum...I made this for dessert today, it was a huge HIT! Thank you! I LOVE your recipes, just "discovered" them through pintrest. I only used 1 box of pudding, that was all I had and didn't feel like making a trip to the store. I covered the cake nicely. Also, any way to keep from getting blobs of cake on the spoon handle when you poke? I tried cooking spray but that didn't help. Maybe my cake was too hot?
ReplyDeleteI couldn't find Oreo pudding, so I put about 9 finely crushed Oreo cookies into 2 packages of vanilla pudding & it's just as good. Also, if the pudding doesn't go into the holes, put a couple pot holders on the counter & tap the cake pan on to them; bubbles will begin popping up & the pudding will fill them in!
ReplyDeleteThis looks amazing! Since I'm allergic to dairy products, I substitute soymilk for milk. I find it works well most of the time. Thanks for the recipe! :)
ReplyDeleteWent to buy the ingredients and couldn't find the cookies & cream pudding so I went a different direction. Spice cake mix with pumpkin spice pudding & cool whip on top. It was fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to make this for a halloween party and color the pudding orange! Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter and I have the day to ourselves so I asked her what she wanted to do. She told ne she wanted to bake so we are currently in the process of making this now cake has been in the oven for about 5 minutes and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I think I'm more excited than my daughter is!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing this!! We have made your recipe before, and I am making it again tonight. My teenage son does not like frosting, and regular cake. So when his birthday rolls around we always try new things, different pies and such. However, this is all he asks for anymore.. It is his 15th birthday today, and we are making this yummy cake. He loves oreos and with this not having "regular" frosting, he is just in heaven, thanks for helping to make 1 happy teenager!
ReplyDeleteI made this for my hubby's birthday I used a chocolate cake and chocolate pudding topped with crushed mint Oreos it was awesome
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI was wondering, do you think this would work at all for a layered cake? Does the pudding set up enough to layer? I have a pretty cake stand I'd like to put it on and just wondered what you thought!
Thanks
Nicole - I have not made this as a layer cake. I probably wouldn't either. The pudding could make it a bit heavy after it cools and it may not balance well as a layer cake. Hope the helps!
ReplyDeleteI am going to try the new pumpkin spice jello pudding flavor in a poke cake tonight for Thanksgiving tomorrow! Thank you for the inspiration on a twist to traditional pumpkin pie...
ReplyDeleteI wanted to make this for a while but can't seem to find oreo pudding anyplace. So instead I made a chocolate cake with butterscotch pudding. And oh my goodness....DELICIOUS!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI believe Jello discontinued the Oreo Pudding. I saw it on discount at several stores last year and now its off the shelves everywhere I look. Guess we'll have to make our own using vanilla and crushed oreos.
ReplyDeleteBrandie, Thank you so much for sharing this! I made it the other night, and we all LOVED it so much! I SLIGHTLY changed the way I put the topping on, and wanted to share it with you and hope you will give it a try sometime! :)
ReplyDeleteI made the cake, poked the holes, and when I made the pudding layer, I only used ONE box of pudding instead of TWO, and used TWO cups of milk instead of FOUR. (So cutting it in half.) This seemed to be enough to cover the entire cake. I then put it in the fridge. After an hour or so, I made this TO DIE FOR FROSTING (LOL!) to put on the top:
I used the 2nd box of oreo pudding with only ONE cup of milk. I blended them together with the mixer for 2 minutes, then I folded in one 8 ounce tub of cool whip. Then I spread that on top of the cake, and then topped it with the crushed oreos.
IT IS SOOOOOO GOOD! TRUST ME! PLEASE TRY IT NEXT TIME! :)
That frosting recipe is one I make all of the time with chocolate pudding mix to make chocolate frosting, or vanilla pudding mix to make vanilla frosting and everyone always loves it. You can also add in a tsp of vanilla, but I didn't do that when I made the oreo frosting, I just forgot to. After making the frosting, it's best to sit in the fridge for an hour or so to set. (Although we had a piece right after frosting it, and it was still great!)
Thanks again for sharing this! (My family thanks you!)

Has anyone been able to find the cookies and cream pudding lately? I went to three stores tonight and did not see it at any of the stores. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you are having trouble finding it. My Wal-Mart still carries it - in fact I just bought a box this weekend. However, you can just use white chocolate pudding and add some crushed up Oreos to it. It tastes exactly the same! :)
ReplyDeleteLoved this recipe. Made it yesterday for a party and everyone loved it. Let the pudding get too thick before I poured it but it still tasted great! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWas at Walmart and they were out..so I got French vanilla pudding instead and got double fudge Oreo cookies. Going to crush that up and put it in the mix and crushed on top! Hope it turns out good! I've made the red velvet and banana poke cake! So yummy!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely the best cake without frosting!! I am so ecstatic to have came across your website.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Amy and family
Dumb question but can I make this recipe in two 8x8 cake pans instead of a 9x13 so I can give one to the neighbor??
ReplyDeleteIn the picture it looks like you used a pan smaller than a 9x13? If so, what size did you use?
ReplyDeleteThe pan may appear smaller in the picture but it is a 9x13 pan just like the directions call for. :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks so yummy! My husband makes poke hole cakes one is a pinacolda cake and the other is a butterfinger poke cake. Can't wait to try this one!

ReplyDeleteI love this, thank you so much for sharing. i'm in the UK and was concerned that I wouldn't be able to purchase the Oreo Pudding mix. I was surprised just how easy it was to purchase, from the UK too. I ordered mine and received it the very next day ! I made the chocolate cake to my own taste and spec but by adding the pudding mix afterwards................. BOOM everyone wanted the recipe. Thank you muchly .... if you ever decide to publish a recipe book I would def buy it.
