FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Add any pizza toppings you love, such as mushrooms, olives, or roasted peppers. Mix them into the sauce or sprinkle on top.
No oven-safe skillet? Transfer the mixture to a 9×13-inch baking dish before baking.
Yes, I would par-boil it first though is it cooks evenly with everything else. I would do the same with shelf stable tortellini as well.
This would be good with your favorite Garlic Bread, Garlic Breadsticks, or some Dinner Rolls, and a big green salad.
Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave until heated through.
Yes, you can freeze this. Just assemble the casserole but don’t bake it. Cover tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. Bake from frozen at 375°F (190°C) for about 50-60 minutes, covering with foil for the first 40 minutes.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
- onion
- green bell pepper – don’t like peppers? Just leave them out. You can customize this however you like!
- Italian sausage– In the photo you’ll see Italian sausage links were used. If you use them, remove the casing to use the meat. Or slice it up instead if you prefer sliced sausage. But, you don’t have to use the links, you could easily just use ground Italian sausage. Additionally, you could just use ground beef or turkey instead of Italian sausage. Or you can skip the meat and add extra veggies instead.
- cloves garlic– minced. If you don’t have fresh garlic to mince, the jarred stuff works fine
- marinara sauce– grab a jar of your favorite sauce from the store or use some Homemade Marinara Sauce. If you’d like this to be more sauce, you can use a larger 32-ounce jar of sauce. If you don’t want to use marinara, pizza sauce can be used. If you use the jarred stuff, those jars are smaller and the sauce is thicker, so you may want to use a couple jars.
- Italian seasoning
- water
- refrigerated cheese tortellini– I used this Cheese Tortellini (not a paid affiliate link), but any flavored tortellini can be used too. Spinach or mushroom tortellini would also work well.
- grated parmesan cheese – the stuff in the green bottle works just fine.
- shredded mozzarella cheese – Mozzarella and Parmesan are classic choices, but you can also add provolone or cheddar for extra flavor.
- pepperoni slices

HOW TO MAKE PIZZA TORTELLINI:
Preheat the oven to 375°F. In a large 12-inch skillet (preferably oven-safe), heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper. Cook for about 5 minutes until softened. Add the Italian sausage to the skillet, breaking it up with a spoon. Cook until no longer pink.

Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 30-45 seconds until fragrant. Pour in the marinara sauce, Italian seasoning, and water. Stir well. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Add the uncooked cheese tortellini to the sauce mixture and stir until well coated.

Sprinkle Parmesan and mozzarella cheese evenly over the tortellini.

Arrange pepperoni slices on top.
Place the skillet in the oven and bake for 18-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.

Garnish with fresh basil if desired and serve immediately.

Can ravioli be substituted for tortellini & if so do you cook it the same amount of time? Sounds like a great recipe. Thanks for the help.
I’m sure you could but I haven’t personally done it & I hate to guess unless I’ve tried it
