FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I just use cinnamon rolls instead of biscuits?

While you can use cinnamon rolls instead of biscuits, just know that it’ll transform this into a very sweet and rich dessert. But if your tastebuds are okay with that level of sweetness, then go for it! I’m guessing you’d use about the same amount and you could use the frosting from the cinnamon rolls as a glaze.

Do I have to make the glaze?

If you don’t want to go through the trouble of making the homemade cream cheese frosting, you can just buy a can of cream cheese frosting or vanilla frosting, warm it in the microwave for a few seconds (don’t forget to remove the lid and aluminum foil covering – yes, I really need to say that to some people), and use that for the glaze.

What other toppings can I try?

I really think it needs some sort of glaze on top. Instead of the cream cheese glaze, you can also top it with a regular powdered sugar glaze (milk, powdered sugar and vanilla), whipped cream, or ice cream!

Can I use a different style of biscuits?

Yes. You can also use the flakey biscuits if that is what you can find, they will work just as good but I think it looks nicer with the homestyle version.

How to store leftovers?

This bubble up recipes keeps in the fridge for up to 5 days, freeze for up to 3 months.

How to serve and reheat Cinnamon Roll Bubble Up?

This deliciousness is best served and eaten warm. You can reheat each portion in the microwave until warmed through or in the oven covered with foil just until warm.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • light brown sugar – when measuring light brown sugar, you want to pack it into your measuring cup.
  • salted butter – if you only have unsalted butter, you can certainly use that. I think the salted butter helps cut a bit of the overall sweetness (but not so much that it tastes salty at all). You also don’t need to soften the butter at all since you’ll be melting it for this recipe.
  • ground cinnamon – you can have fun with this recipe and use apple pie spice or pumpkin pie spice.
  • Pillsbury Grands Homestyle Biscuits – you can really use any brand. This is just what I used. I use a total of 10 biscuits for this recipe. So if you can’t find the smaller cans, you may have to use one full can of 8 biscuits then two more from another can of biscuits. As I stated above, you can use cinnamon rolls but just keep in mind it will make this pretty sweet but I’ll leave it up to your tastebuds.
  • cream cheese – you’ll be using the cream cheese in the filling as well as in the glaze. You’ll want to make sure the cream cheese is softened close to room temperature.
  • powdered sugar and milk – if you aren’t a fan of cream cheese glazes, you can just mix a bit of powdered sugar, milk and a touch of vanilla extract together until you reach your preferred consistency and pour that on top.

HOW TO MAKE CINNAMON ROLL BUBBLE UP

Preheat the oven to 350°F. Spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray and set aside. In a large bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until combined. Cut the biscuits into 8ths and cut 6 ounces of the cream cheese into small cubes. Add both to the bowl.

Gently fold everything together so the biscuits are coated in the sauce, and the cream cheese is distributed throughout. Spread into the prepared baking dish in an even layer. Bake for 45-50 minutes, until golden brown on top and bubbly along the edges. If you find it is browning too fast, tent with foil.

Allow to cool slightly while you make the glaze. Make the glaze by mixing the remaining 2 ounces of cream cheese with the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. I like to use an electric hand mixer for this. Pour the glaze evenly over the bubble up and serve

Substituted mascarpone cheese in place of the cream cheese and used Grands Cinnamon Rolls. Oh my goodness. Delish!
