FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I use boneless pork chops?

I like the bone-in pork chops for this recipe. I find that it really gives this dish a lot of flavor but if you prefer boneless you can certainly do that. But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.

What can I serve with pork chops?

My absolute favorite side dish with this is mashed potatoes. Rice or egg noodles are also good. I also like to serve it with some steamed vegetables. (like broccoli or carrots) and maybe some Butter Swim Biscuits!

Can I cook this high?

I don’t recommend cooking on high. The meat will not come out as tender. Cooking it low and slow will ensure fall-apart tender pork chops.

Can I use a different cream soup?

You can pretty much us any cream soup your family enjoys. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of onion, cream of mushroom and chicken will all work here.

Should I salt and pepper the pork chops?

You could definitely season with pepper but I don’t recommend salt as there is enough salt in the other ingredients.

Can I use fat-free or low sodium options?

Where applicable, you could certainly substitute with those options. I prefer low sodium options here because we’re also using packets of pork gravy and onion soup mix which also have sodium in them.

Do I need to thicken the gravy?

It’s totally optional but I really think the gravy works better when thickened.

Can I use a round crock pot instead of oval?

I find this recipe works better in an oval slow cooker instead of a round one. The chops cook more evenly.

How do I store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container and put into the refrigerator. Eat within two days. I don’t recommend freezing leftovers.

  1. I've been looking for a comforting pork dish and this looks great. I have all ingredients but the pork gravy mix. Since I'm stranded at home after the blizzard, I can't just run out to get it. Can you recommend an alternative or replacement for the mixture? Thanks!

  2. Has anyone cooked this using the high setting? If so did you cook it for 3 or 4 hours?

Also, can we brown the chops before putting them in the slow cooker?

  3. I made this tonight and followed all your directions and it came out superb thank you for the gravy tutorial also.

  4. I browned the pork chop & added sauce & slow cooking. My husband ready to eat RAW…The smell is great. 6 hrs until we eat.

  5. This is absolutely delicious! I made it in the oven because of timing and I still thickened up the gravy…no need to salt the mashed potatoes because the gravy evens that out. This was an awesome recipe! Thanks for sharing!

  6. This looks delicious! I have some pork chops thawed that need to be used! Only problem is I don't have any pork gravy mix and we just got a big snow storm so going to the store is out of the question. Can something else be used as a substitute?

  7. This came out really good!! It's 10AM an i want dinner. I added water when (following the onion mix directions(oops) and although it came out really soft and flavorful in 6 hours, I think i may have reduced the flavor. My pork chops were much bigger than expected so I think SOME water was needed. I think i'll be needing a larger crock pot too. I'll be doing that gravy step. My family loves it!!

  8. Thanks for sharing this recipe! My husband loved it and is already excited to take leftovers to work to make the other guys jealous! 🙂

  9. I had a little more time, so I added sauteed sweet Vidalia onions, sweet red and orange chopped and sauteed bell peppers, 3 stalks of celery minced and sauteed, and about 3 cloves of garlic sauteed. I also increased the gravy components x 3 since my family likes gravy and I served the gravy over rice with pork loin chops on top with a little chopped green onion sprinkle.

It was a big hit! No leftovers!

  10. I just made this for my family and everyone loved it! I have never seen them eat so fast. I did cook them on high for four hours and they were just as yummy as cooking them for eight hours on low. I did not use the lower sodium chicken broth and found that it was a little bit for heavy on the sodium side this time around. I had grabbed the wrong can at the grocery store. Overall it was an awesome quick meal! Thank you so much…

  11. My family is THE pickiest eaters like ever. ALL of them LOVED this meal… like seriously. Never had 1 meal that everyone sincerely enjoyed it. THANK YOU!!!!!

  12. Ohhhhh myyyyyy goodness!! Made your oh so yummy pork chop recipe today…the crock pot just went off…had already eaten dinner (another fantastic Pinterest recipe), but just had to taste test a pork chop an it was AWESOME!!!!!!! Can't wait for dinner tomorrow!! I used boneless chops and doubled the recipe–only had 1 packet of the pork gravy mix, but still came out perfect!! Thanks so much for this wonderful recipe! Will be making this often!! It's a 10+++ Pam Hussey (Nederland, TX)

  13. I've made these more than once. It's definitely become one of my new go-to recipes. Quick, easy and very yummy. Thanks for sharing.

  14. These were absolutely delicious. My family has already made me promise to make them again as soon as I can. Mine turned out so tender that they literally fell of the bone. There was no need to thicken the gravy, it turned out perfect. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I've pinned tons of your others and can't wait to try more. Bettie Martin Germantown, TN

  15. I made this tonight and it was a success! The meat literally fell off the bone. And my six year old daughter ate everything on her plate! Yay!

  16. Found your recipe early this week and decided to make it today with a side of garlic mashed potatoes and some sauteed onions and peppers then cooked in freshly diced roma tomatoes. Big hit with the boys! Thank you.

  17. Loved this especially when my wife said this is a keeper recipe.
I only had 2 chops so cut the recipe in 1/2 and cooked them on low all afternoon in a lidded fry pan. Tastes great and very filling.
    Thanks

  18. Just put in my crock pot. I had no onion soup mix or pork gravy or chicken broth. I used 1 cup of water with a tablespoon of "Better than Bouillon" chicken. I used 1 fresh onion, 1 Tablespoon of mustard & 1 teaspoon of agave. I used granulated garlic, 3 pods of fresh garlic, grated on rasp, & Italian seasonings. I did had Cream of Chicken soup, which I used. I have 6 boneless pork chops. I have a crock pot that can brown then you can switch to slow cooking. Put on for 6 hours. Looking forward to dinner.
