FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Nope! Instead of 4 overflowing, generous sandwiches, this recipe will make 8 regular size sandwiches. I only did the double decker to stay true to the Big Mac style.
No, you can totally use a canned sloppy joe sauce for convenience if needed. Make the Sloppy Joe part with a can of Manwich then just make the Big Mac sauce and go from there!
Don’t want to make my Big Mac secret sauce? Try using Thousand Island dressing mixed with a little mayo to make a faster version!
I recommend using an 85/15 ground beef. You don’t want to use anything too lean or you’ll lose the natural flavor. Just be sure to drain any excess grease no matter what you use.
Sure! If you want to add pickles to the sandwiches, you can. I know Big Macs have sliced pickles and you can certainly add those. I just felt the pickle relish in the Big Mac sauce was more than enough.
What is great about this recipe is that it is a homemade Sloppy Joe recipe and the Big Mac sauce is extra. So if you have picky eaters, some can just eat it as a regular ole Sloppy Joe and everyone else can prepare it with the Big Mac sauce, lettuce and cheese.
Leftover meat should be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Sesame buns should be stored separately at room temperature. You can also freeze the meat mixture for up to 3 months in a freezer safe container.
Pop the meat back in a skillet on the stovetop and add some beef broth to help get it back to the right consistency.

HOW TO MAKE BIG MAC SLOPPY JOES
In a medium-sized bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, French dressing, dill pickle relish, minced onion, sugar, vinegar, and garlic powder. Place in the fridge until ready to assemble the sandwiches.
In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, breaking it up into crumbles. Cook until there is no more pink. Drain any excess grease.
Add the beef stock, ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally. Take off the lid and continue to simmer for 5-10 minutes until most of the liquid is gone. Take off the heat.
Place the bottom of a sesame seed bun on your serving plate. Add some of the sloppy Joe meat. Top with one piece of cheese.
Add another bun bottom on top of the cheese. Add more meat.
Add some of the sauce and shredded lettuce.
Add a bun top. Serve and enjoy.

Big Mac Sloppy Joes
Ingredients
For the sauce:
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons French dressing
- 2 tablespoons dill pickle relish
- 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
For the sloppy joe meat:
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 ½ cups beef stock
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup tomato paste
- 1 1/2 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For assembly:
- 4 sesame seed buns
- 4 additional bun bottoms (if making these as double decker sandwiches)
- 4 slices American cheese
- shredded lettuce
Instructions
- In a medium-sized bowl, stir together the mayonnaise, French dressing, dill pickle relish, minced onion, sugar, vinegar, and garlic powder. Place in the fridge until ready to assemble the sandwiches.
- In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, breaking it up into crumbles. Cook until there is no more pink. Drain any excess grease.
- Add the beef stock, ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
- Bring to a simmer, reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.
- Take off the lid and continue to simmer for 5-10 minutes until most of the liquid is gone. Take off the heat.
- If making this as a double decker: Place the bottom of a sesame seed bun on your serving plate. Add some of the Sloppy Joe meat. Top with one piece of cheese. Add another bun bottom on top of the cheese. Add more meat, followed by some of the sauce and shredded lettuce. Add a bun top and serve.
- If making as a single sandwich: add Sloppy Joe meat to the bottom bun, top with a piece of cheese followed by the Big Mac sauce, shredded lettuce then the top bun.
Notes
- You definitely don’t need to make these double decker. I did that to stay “true” to the original Big Mac but you can certainly just make 8 normal sized sandwiches.
- To make this even easier, try using a can of Manwich sloppy Joe sauce instead of making it homemade then just make the Big Mac sauce to top!
- Keep any leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days. It is best to reheat the meat in a large skillet, add some more beef stock to loosen it up. Freeze for up to 3 months.

Or you can just make the big mac sauce and get Manwich sauce in the can. That’s what I’ll be doing to cut down on all the other efforts. I’ll be trying it this way.
You can definitely do that. I got no problem with Manwuch, but I’m telling you, nothing beats homemade. It totally blows the canned stuff out of the water!
