FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What makes this the Best Cheese Toast?

I know this seems like the most basic no brainer recipe but I have a little secret to mine and it’s mayonnaise mixed with the cheese! I do that for my Garlic Cheese bread and it is honestly the best and gets rave reviews! It keeps it creamy but you don’t taste the mayonnaise as a separate ingredient.

Can I use other bread?

Sure! Any bread will work just fine. White is simple, cheap, and generally well loved, especially by kids. Use what you have. I like the Texas Toast because I think it holds up well to the cheese and I like a good bread to cheese ratio.

Can I make Cheese Toast in the Air Fryer?

Yes, you can. I know the shredded cheese can make you nervous because you don’t want it flying around the basket as the air get circulating, but since it’s mixed with the mayo, it helps to weigh it down and stick it to the butter on the toast.
Once you’ve assembled your Cheese Toast, pop it in the Air Fryer at 375F for about 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbling (this time can vary with different styles of air fryers so just check it until it has reached your level of doneness) Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to work in many batches.

What’s the best way to reheat Cheese Toast?

You can reheat in the oven or air fryer if there are any leftovers.

How to store leftovers?

Keep leftover pieces in the fridge for up to 2 days, I do not recommend freezing.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • Texas Toast – this is just a thicker style white bread. You can use Italian bread or any bread you prefer.
  • butter– you want this soft enough to spread. Margarine can be used instead of butter.
  • shredded cheddar cheese – You can also switch up the cheese, any good melting cheese will do. I think the freshly shredded cheese works best for melting but I know Cheese Toast is one of those things you’re making for a quick snack so the pre-shredded stuff will do in a pinch.
  • mayonnaise – whatever kind of mayo you prefer will work. This adds such great creaminess so don’t skip it!

HOW TO MAKE CHEESE TOAST

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a sheet tray with parchment paper. Place the slices of bread on the prepared sheet tray. Spread ½ Tablespoon of the butter on the top of each piece of bread.

Texas Toast on a sheet and some Texas toast with some butter.

In a medium bowl, stir together the shredded cheddar and mayonnaise until the cheese shreds are coated. Spread the cheese mixture evenly on top of each piece of bread. This is a little tricky, I used my hands to spread it out as evenly as possible.

A small bowl of mayo and shredded cheese and a few slices of bread with butter, mayo, and shredded cheese.

Bake for 8-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the bread is toasted. Serve immediately.
