STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE CAKE (+Video)

Strawberry Shortcake Cake is a vanilla cake, topped with a sweet creamy frosting and finished off with a delicious fresh strawberry glaze!

Strawberry season is here! Who else gets excited to go strawberry picking?! This recipe for Strawberry Shortcake Cake is one of my most-requested recipe from family and friends. It’s a super fun take on the SOUTHERN STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE recipe.

WHITE CAKE, CREAM FILLING, FRESH STRAWBERRIES

We start with a white cake (from a cake mix) as our base. Then top that with sweetened cream cheese. Finally, we add fresh strawberries to a pre-made strawberry glaze and spread it on top. This cake is not only beautiful but it tastes amazing. Just make sure to have the recipe on hand – everyone will want it!Strawberry Shortcake Cake recipe from The Country Cook

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
white (or yellow) cake mix
egg whites, oil and water
cream cheese
powdered sugar
whipped topping (COOL WHIP)
strawberry glaze
fresh strawberriesboxed white cake mix, fresh strawberries, Cool Whip, cream cheese, powdered sugar, strawberry glaze
COOK’S NOTES: You can usually find it in the fruit section of your grocery store. Most grocers keep it right next to the strawberries. You can also make your own strawberry pie glaze if you have a favorite recipe for it.

HOW TO MAKE STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE CAKE:

Make cake according to package directions for a 9×13 baking dish.

Allow the cake to cool. Then make the next layer. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth.

 In a bowl combine the strawberry glaze with your strawberries.

 Spread this mixture on top of your cake.

Ingredients

  • 1 box white cake mix
  • additional ingredients to make cake; eggs, oil and water
  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (COOL WHIP), thawed
  • 1 (13.5 oz) container premade strawberry glaze
  • 3 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and cut into bite size pieces

Instructions

  • Prepare white cake according to package directions for a 9 x 13 baking dish.
  • Allow the cake to cool.
  • Then make the next layer. In a mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese with powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Stir in thawed whipped topping and combine well.
  • Smooth over the cooled cake.
  • In a bowl combine the strawberry glaze with the sliced strawberries.
  • Spread this mixture on top of the cake.
  • Slice and serve.

    Jacelyn, I don't see why not. I've never made it with the angel food cake but I think it should work. The angel food cake is, of course, has a very different texture from the white cake but I think the tastes should still work together.

    I made this cake yesterday– it was dessert for our Easter dinner. It was FANTASTIC. RAVE reviews from everyone!! My younger son was so quiet while he was eating it… I asked him if he was OK. He said "Yes, Mom… but this is so good I don't want to talk or even think about anything else!" LOL! Thank you for making our Easter dessert so yummy!
