Crock Pot Smothered Pork Chops and Potatoes

Crock Pot Smothered Pork Chops and Potatoes is a meal-in-one! A creamy, flavorful sauce on top of tender pork chops and cheesy potatoes!

A DELICIOUS CROCK POT MEAL

Doesn’t that just sound good? One of my most popular recipes here at The Country Cook is my Crock Pot Pork Chops and Gravy. If you love pork chops and brown gravy – you’ll definitely want to check that one out. When I was brainstorming new recipes, I thought it would be great if I could add some sort of veggie to it and have it still be a one-pot, slow cooker meal.

AU GRATIN-STYLE POTATOES

I wanted the potatoes to be similar to au-gratin potatoes (with a creamy, white sauce) and I wanted to give lots of flavor to the pork chops. I was so happy with how this recipe for Crock Pot Smothered Pork Chops and Potatoes turned out. You get lots of creamy, cheesy, tasty white sauce to smother over your pork chops and potatoes when serving. So good!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • thick cut, bone-in pork chops – it’s really important that you use thick cut and bone-in (not regular cut or boneless) or the pork chops will be cooked and start to dry out before the potatoes are done. If you want to cook this without potatoes, you could use regular pork chops and cut the cooking time.
  • salt and pepper – use any seasoning combination you prefer. You could use onion powder and garlic powder or if you need a no salt option, you could use a Mrs. Dash seasoning blend.
  • cream of chicken with herbs soup – regular cream of chicken or any “cream of something” soup will work here (as long as you think the flavors go together). I also have recipes for Homemade Cream of Chicken Soup and Homemade Cream of Mushroom soup.
  • heavy whipping cream – this is really going to give you that deliciously thick creaminess.
  • garlic and onion – if you don’t like onion, just leave it out. If possible, use fresh garlic instead of the jarred garlic .
  • russet potatoes – I think russet potatoes cook best here but I don’t see why you couldn’t use Yukon gold or red potatoes.
  • shredded colby and monterey jack cheese – you can just use plain cheddar if you prefer or any other combination of cheeses you enjoy.
  • sliced green onion – this is optional. I think it not only gives flavor but color as well.

HOW TO MAKE CROCK POT SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS AND POTATOES

Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Note: I have a slow cooker that also has a saute option so I am able to brown my meat in the cooker. Season pork chops with salt and pepper. Brown both sides of the pork chops (don’t fully cook the pork chops – just a minute on both sides to get them brown.) Set aside pork chops.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the cream of chicken soup with the heavy cream, milk and minced garlic. Set aside. NOTE: Because this seems to be CONFUSING so many people. From this point on, I will call this the SAUCE mixture. It’s all the same thing. It’s a sauce made from a can of soup, heavy cream and milk.

Slice potatoes and chop onions. Note: You could slice the potatoes in half (to make a half-moon shape) after slicing them lengthwise to make them more bite-sized.

Spread the sliced potatoes and the onions into the bottom of a 5 quart or larger oval slow cooker. Season with salt & pepper.

I needed a recipe to prepare in afternoon and would be ready after a busy evening and this was perfect. Didnt have the cream, but still came out a very flavorful hearty meal. Thanks for posting this!

Ok, I made this last weekend and it was so good. The only think that I would try next time is try it with bone less pork chops. My meat came right off the bone inside the crockpot and I had some small bones in the mixer . But in all it was delicious

Thats exactly what always happens to me when I use bone-in, which is why I don’t use them anymore for crock pot recipes. I always use boneless – just doesn’t take as long to cook

I’m doing this tonight! Getting started right now! I love that its with stuff that is at home in the fridge or pantry for us! No store ruin needed. Love it!

So I officially started this at 7:15 this morning I won’t be home till 4 will this have cooked too long? I didn’t r fully read the instruction part where it says how long to cook but I’m not reading where you stayed it’s cooked around 4 hours

Can’t wait to make this tonight!! I have boneless chops as well but in the past they still cooked for 4 hours and turned out great! Thanks for the recipe! Can’t wait for supper!!

  6. Oh, I forgot to mention. I don’t keep cream around, and I didn’t want to make a run to the store, so I substituted sour cream. It worked beautifully, and tasted great! I realize that in using sour cream I’ve kinda changed the recipe, but isn’t the result the important thing? I guess you can consider it a variation.

    1. I didn’t want to use heavy cream so I appreciate knowing that sour cream will work as well. Also, it’s hard to find cream of chicken soup with herbs in my small town. Wondered other than Ms. Dash what herbs should I use.

This recipe is remarkably simple, and very good. Don’t stress over the size of your Crock-Pot. It will work with just about anything. I promise! Lol

Going to try this today but I hate onions cooked in the crockpot so I think I will caramelize them on the stove and top chops with them when they get done

I made this and it is so delicious!!! I made 4 pork chops the first time, but now this second time around, I’ll be making only two pork chops. My question is, I’ll obviously cut the ingredients in half, but do I also cut the cooking time in half? Thanks!

  10. Can this be done in the oven? Any idea how long and what temp it would need to be?
It sounds amazing but I won’t have enough time for the slow cooker.

    1. My mother would make something very similar that was my Dad’s favorite meal. Used cream of celery soup and American cheese slices. Chops were browned on one side, and it was cooked in the oven at 350. For an hour, it was covered with foil. Then remove foil and cook until potatoes are done, about 30 min more.

Hello! This recipe sounds delicious. Ive got porkchops without the bone, would I be able to use those and just put them in after the potato has cooked a bit so they dont get over done?

    1. Boneless works just as well as long as they aren’t a thin cut it they’ll dry out. Cooking time is the same

I just read the recipe and got my supper tommorow planned! All I need to pick up is the heavy cream!
I plan to use my regular cream of chicken soup but mix in about 1 tbsp of Mrs Dash. Herb blend in it!
Thanks so much for this new slow cooker recipe! MY hubby loves me for cooking stuff from your blog! So a DOUBLE TY Brandie!!????

the brand I have found and love is a Ninja. It cooks like a stove top, bakes like an oven and cooks as a slow cooker also
    It is a dream.

What brand is your Crock Pot? I would love to have one like it!! Can’t wait to try this recipe, it looks soooo yummy!

In the instructions it says to pour remaining soup mixture over chops then add cheese and the sauce ….there is no sauce listed in the instructions …do I need to reserve some of the soup mixture to go on last as the sauce ?

      1. I haven’t actually tested this in the oven but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. You’ll have to play with the time a bit. You definitely don’t want dry, overcooked pork chops!

Cannot wait to make these with the potatoes. Of course I changed the soup to Campbell’s Healthy Request because of the no MSG in that soup. but that was the only change I made other than adding 1 tablespoon Mrs. Dash Original seasoning and then cutting the recipe in half to feed 2 people.
