Instant Pot Smothered Pork Chops
Instant Pot Smothered Pork Chops and potatoes is a whole meal! Gravy covered pork chops and baby potatoes all made in one pot!
A WHOLE MEAL MADE IN THE INSTANT POT
This recipe for Instant Pot Smothered Pork Chops and potatoes is one I have been meaning to share for some time. I have a delicious crock pot pork chop recipe but it was time to make one just for the electric pressure cooker. And, like most of my Instant Pot recipes, I wanted this one to be a one pot meal. Be sure to check out my recipe for Instant Pot Pot Roast and Instant Pot Meatloaf and Potatoes. You’ll see why I love these Little potatoes so much. They hold up beautifully to pressure cooking!

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)
- baby potatoes
- small onion
- salt and pepper
- garlic powder
- low sodium beef broth
- water
- cream of mushroom (or chicken) soup
- dry onion soup mix
- A1 steak sauce
- thick cut bone-in pork chops
- sour cream (optional)

HOW TO MAKE INSTANT POT SMOTHERED PORK CHOPS:
Slice potatoes in half and dice onion.

Place potatoes and diced onion into a steamer basket (that safely fits inside your Instant Pot.)

Season potatoes and onions with salt, pepper, garlic powder and gently toss to season evenly.

In the insert of a 6-quart Instant Pot, stir together beef broth, water, cream of mushroom soup, dry onion soup mix and steak sauce.

Season both sides of the pork chops with garlic powder and black pepper. Place pork chops on top of the gravy mixture.

Place steamer basket on top of pork chops.

Put the lid on the Instant Pot and set the pressure release valve to “sealing.” Set on high pressure for 10 minutes. You don’t want to overcook the pork chops or they’ll come out tough. When finished, do a quick pressure release. Remove steamer basket and set aside.

Then remove pork chops and set aside. Turn the Instant Pot to the saute setting. Stir in sour cream (if using.) Stir together water and cornstarch in a small bowl and add to gravy. Whisk the mixture and allow to come to a gentle boil until gravy thickens.

Serve gravy over pork chops along with the baby potatoes.

This turned out so good! I followed your recipe exactly. It was so nice to have a whole meal done in one pot!
Perfect!!! I love smothered pork chops and this recipe is perfection. Thank you.
Will this recepie work with frozen chops? If so, how long should they cook?
It should but I haven’t tested it to be honest so I can’t really give a time. I’m sorry! Maybe someone on here has tried it and can let us know how long it took them. 🙂
Loved this recipe:) I used eight small boneless pork chops and doubled the recipe for all the other ingredients. It was quite a lot of liquid for my 8 qt pot and for some reason I got a “burn” alert. I quickly shut it off, released the pressure and started again. It worked out perfectly. My husband is happy because there is plenty left over for his lunch on Monday (and maybe Tuesday too). Thank you for sharing this.
Oh honey, I created this recipe for the little potato company. You can see my link on their website as the creator. Pay more attention before coming here and accusing me of stealing my own original recipe. You sure did take a lot of time to come here and accuse me when you could’ve taken two seconds to see my name and a link to my profile on their website as the recipe creator. Check yourself.
Love this comeback!!!
Hear Hear!
I cook my peel and diced potatoes in my steamer basket, 3 minutes for potato salad and 4 minutes for mashed potatoes. Can’t wait to ry this recipe. Love your website and every recipe I tried.
Great tip Becky!! Thank you so much!
Made this tonight and my family loved it. Had to make a substitute for A1 as I did not have any but it was easy to make and fast.
Just made this for supper. Very good. I had boneless chops and cooked 10 minutes. 12 would have made them just a little more tender. Loved the gravy. I didn’t use the sour cream.
Thanks so much Ronda! I sure appreciate you stopping by to leave a review!
Has anyone tried making it with breading on the chops? Any advice there??
We really liked this recipe. It is a keeper! I added the sour cream, too. Delicious gravy….. I browned the chops on each side before adding them to InstaPot. I didn’t have any powdered garlic, so I just chopped up a couple smaller pieces of fresh garlic. Worked great!
This is a great recipe; however, I always cook my pork chops for 15 minutes on HIGH pressure just to make sure they are tender. I’ve had bad experience with shorter times for pressure cooking pork chops. I added the sour cream because I had it on hand. It makes the gravy delicious.
Made this for my father, a meat and potatoes man. I thought it was delicious, and I hope he likes it. I used boneless butterfly pork chops and should have cooked 7 minutes instead of eight. My bad.
Pork chops were very tender. Gravy very yummy!
Have you tried the recipe with frozen pork chops?
Thinking of trying this with chicken breasts. Think the cooking time would be the same?
Hi Ralph, it should be.
I have 8qt pot and also need more than 4 pork chops. Would there be a difference in time for 6 or 8?
Hi Tonya, I haven’t tested it yet but I honestly don’t think so. Pork chops can easily overcook and get tough if they are cooked too long. Since you are using a larger pot, I think you should be fine.
Hi Brandie, I don’t have a steamer basket. Can I cook the potatoes in with the meat & gravy? If so, what would be the changes in time? Thanks!
Hey Rhonda! I haven’t tried it yet to be honest. I am thinking you could layer the potatoes on the bottom and then put the pork chops on top of the potatoes. It should work. I would keep the time the same. Just make sure you are using thicker pork chops. If they are too think they will come out tough.
Hey Michelle. I have this one. I bought the one that is made for a 6-quart instant pot. I mainly liked that it had a handle on it. Ha! https://amzn.to/2X3ji9R (just as an FYI – this is an affiliate link to Amazon) 🙂
Hey Brandie, that steamer pot is no longer available. I bought this one
Love it!!
Thanks Mike!
Can you use boneless chops in this recipe?
Hey Rona – I don’t see why not. Just get the thicker cut. The main goal here is making sure the chops don’t get tough so thicker will be better. 🙂
Are you able tell me how to make the pork chops in a crockpot, I do not have an Instant Pot.
Hi Ima! Sure thing. Here is a link to my recipe to make it in your crockpot. 🙂 https://www.thecountrycook.net/slow-cooker-pork-chops/
