FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What kind of salmon should I use?

I like to use canned pink salmon for this recipe but you can use fresh smoked salmon if you’d like as well. When using canned salmon, you’ll want to remove any of the little bones and pieces of fish skin that are included.

Can I use other seasonings?

Absolutely, you can use any of your favorite mixture. This is what we really like for our Salmon Patties, but feel free to use what you like best.

Can I use regular breadcrumbs?

Yes, I like the panko because of the extra crunchy texture but regular bread crumbs will still work with this recipe.

Do I need to spray my air fryer?

Yes! We do not want these to stick so you will want to spray you air fryer with olive oil spray. Do not use vegetable oil spray for this recipe. Vegetable spray will gunk up the air fryer basket.

Why is there some skin and bones in canned salmon?

It’s just how canned salmon is packed. It is possible to eat the thin bones and they can add a lot of nutrition as well. Just make sure they are crushed up very well. I remove them as it is a texture issue for me. Even after it is all mashed together but that is totally a personal preference.

How do I store leftovers?

These can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where they will keep for up to 3-4 days. These can also be frozen. Place in a freezer container and they will keep for up to 3 months. Remove to the refrigerator overnight. Once thawed you can reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes until heated through or the oven.

These were very good, but even using olive oil in a cold air fryer they stuck. Next time I’ll use canola and see if that works any better. Thanks for sharing!

I’ve made these several times and love them. I remove the bones and skin, just a personal preference. Just my husband and I so we always have two left and they make perfect salmon burgers a day or two later.

These were delicious! Easy to make, quick to cook, great for nutritional value. I didn’t debone or “de-skin” and didn’t notice anything weird about the flavor or texture. Next time I’ll experiment with other seasonings, but these were great.

Really yummy! The flavor was fantastic and I didn’t change a thing about the recipe. I do like the idea of adding in some Old Bay (my family is a huge fan). My whole family really enjoyed these. I served them with air fried broccoli and some sweet beets on the side.

Love this!! I subbed in gluten free panko breadcrumbs and it tasted great!!! No other changes made.

Very good and easy to prepare. I removed the skin but left the bones (a favorite of mine as a kid). I also added some Old Bay seasoning which really gave them a good kick.
    Thanks so much!

I grew up on fried salmon patties, but now that I’m older, I do try to eat healthier. I haven’t had these in years and the old me wanted to fry them in lard like my mama did, but the new me said “nuh-uh!” lol I love my air fryer and use it several times a week, but I was reluctant about the salmon patties, but decided to give it a go. They were actually delicious, not quite like mama’s of course, but totally satisfying and I will def. make them again! I didn’t have any dill, so I threw in a splash of dill pickle juice and it worked just fine. Thanks for the oh so much healthier recipe!

These were very good and super easy! Mine fell apart a little bit so I’ll have to adjust the recipe a bit as far as that goes but the flavor was nice! I will definitely be adding these to my lunch rotation. Thanks for the recipe!

It worked out well. I added Romainian spice, a wonderful gift I received from a dear friend. The spice combines peppers, onions, garlic, and other herbs that I am not familiar with. I appreciate the chance to learn more about the air fryer. I plan to use it again.

  11. I have used this recipe many many times and have always been very pleased with the results. however I must ask you why you take the time to remove the skin and bones? everything in the can has been thoroughly cooked and if you mash them up with everything else they simply disappear. they do not alter the flavor or the texture but they do add significantly nutritionally, especially calcium

    1. Hey there! I do mention above that you can certainly do that. For me, it is a texture issue even after it is all mashed in. 🙂 Hope that helps and I am so happy you enjoy it!!

These were so good!! The air fryer really makes them nice and crispy on the outside and moist on the inside.
Thanks for such a delicious and easy recipe!

  13. I want to make this but sea food makes me puke uncontrollably. Been to ER many times ! Got tested allergic to it unless it deep fried . As a child I ate them all the time! One of my families favorite never bothered me back then! Please help me

We tried this recipe tonight and it was delicious! My son helped make it and says it was one of his favorite recipes ever! I had never made salmon patties and now everyone is already asking me to make them more often! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I have a question (or 3 )before I attempt these. BTW they look diecious and pretty easy to come together with ingredients I have on hand. We are going camping this weekend and I was if I could make ahead and take to cook. Thoughts? Also, my friend has a convection/microwave dual oven in RV can they be cooked in i? Thank you for your any insight and. Stay Calm and Cook 🙂

    1. Hey Marty Jo! Yes, they can be made in advance as far as I know. I haven’t actually tried that but I can’t see why that wouldn’t work. And I am not at all familiar with a dual convection/microwave oven so I couldn’t tell you about that. Traditional salmon patties are fried in oil so cooking in an air fryer is an oil free option 🙂

  16. I’m going to try this recipe but I’m going leave the bones and skin in! I love the bones and skin! (Plus the bones are rich in calcium!)

Beat air fryer recipe I’ve found. Perfect temp/time. Very good patties. I didn’t have a large can of salmon, but had several small ones. I used two of those after draining. They mix up quickly. I use a large cookie scoop, place the mixture on a plate, and flatten. It makes 8 small 2.5″ patties. I cook them 4 at a time.

Just made them in my ninja air fryer. Wow were they good. Light crunch on the outside and soft and steamy on the inside. I’ll never pan fry them again.

Perfect, I like the flavor and the texture they are not very soft. My husband has heart problems so I had to omit the salt and use sour cream instead of mayonnaise, I like it I always wanted to cook something with salmon my husband like it thank you much for the recipe

This came out great, I used dried parsley didn’t have fresh ones on hand. Cooked for 15 mins than turned for another 10mins which cause the golden brown.

Just made this for dinner and it’s delicious! In the past I’ve always used oil and of course the patties were a bit greasy. This is clean, delicious, and can be made keto if you use pork rind crumbs instead of panko.
