Easy Apple Dumplins

It's that time of year again- FALL! And that means apple season.
There are just so many great ways to use apples and my brain just starts buzzing with all the possibilities.

One of the first recipes that always comes to mind are these dumplins. Yes, I know it should be spelled with a "g" on the end but I always pronounce it as dumplins. So we're going with dumplins.

This recipe is just so easy and you only need one apple for 4 servings or two apples for 8 servings.  And the crescent rolls take on a whole nutha flavor when combined with the cinnamon and butter. My husband just loves this because he loves apple desserts and I love it because it is easy peasy!
 Ingredients:
1 Green Apple (Granny Smith, Golden Delicious)
1 tube (8 oz.) Crescent Rolls
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ground Cinnamon (to taste)
1/2 cup lemon lime soda (Sprite or Mountain Dew work good)
(Vanilla extract not pictured)
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F degrees
Peel and core apples. Cut apple into 8 slices.
Unroll tube of crescent rolls and separate into 8 pieces.
On each roll, sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon.
 Add one apple slice.
Roll it up in a nice little bundle. Continue with next 7 rolls the same way.
Spray an 8-inch square pan with nonstick spray.
Place all 8 dumplins into baking dish.
Mix together melted butter with sugar and vanilla.
Pour butter mixture on top of crescent rolls.
Now take soda and pour it around the edges of the crescent rolls.
Sprinkle tops with a bit more cinnamon.
Bake in preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
Cook's Notes: Just double the recipe and use a 13x9 pan for 8 servings. Also, if you haven't given this cinnamon a try, you really should if you get a chance. It goes by many names but it is cinnamon from Vietnam. It is sometimes called Vietnamese Cinnamon or Saigon Cinnamon. You can probably find it your major grocery store chains now. I found this at Walmart.
It has such a great concentrated cinnamon flavor and I am hooked on it now. I just love to use it to make homemade applesauce.
It really makes a big difference in taste.

Enjoy!

I got so excited that you made this and reminded me of it that I pinned it, stumbled it and then left without leaving a note so I had to come back. :)

Thank you SO much for sharing this! Someone brought it to our house for dessert once and I fell in love with it, but haven't thought of it since then. Now I can make it!

Have a great weekend, Brandie.

Don't know how I missed this before but saw it over at Everyday Mom's Meals, Love it, too easy, I'll be making some this week!

Trish said...

Just had to come back and say, these are delicious! The kids request them at least once a week and since we eat twice off one recipe, we enjoy your apple dumplings for dessert with vanilla ice cream twice a week! YUM!

Tucson Mom said...

Just tried these and love them! I agree about the kind of cinnamon and just so you know, our local Costco carries a huge bottle of it so incredibly cheap compared to what you can buy in the grocery store and it lasts forever.

The Country Cook said...

Tucson Mom - so happy you liked them! Good to know about it being carried at Costco. We don't have on here but we do have Sam's Club so I'll have to check there next time I go. Thank you so much for taking the time to come back & let me know how they turned out for ya. I really appreciate it!

These look wonderful, and I love the fact that they are so easy! I'm saving these to try some day.

These look amazing! One question....I know they're probably best warm, right out of the oven, but how about when they come to room temperature? I was thinking of making these for a spaghetti dinner at my daughter's school.

The Country Cook said...

These tast just fine at room temperature. In fact, my husband always asks me to make extra so he can take some for lunch the next day. So he's usually eating them cold since they stay in his cooler. To me, they are best warm but he seems to enjoy the taste either way! :)

StarHL said...

Made this tonight and it was delicious!!! Loved it!! My husband was a little skeptical but after he had his first bite - he said it was very good! Thanks for the recipe!!!

The Country Cook said...

Hi Star! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know how they turned out for you. I'm glad your hubby gave them a chance..lol!

Now I need two appetizers for the pot lucks on Saturday night and Sunday night...
