AN EASY APPLE DESSERT

In my opinion, any time of year is a good time for apple recipes. Not just fall! There are just so many great ways to use apples and my brain just starts buzzing with all the possibilities. One of the first recipes that always comes to mind are these dumplings.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I use peaches instead of apples?

Absolutely! Peaches work perfect in this dessert. Check out my recipe for FRESH PEACH DUMPLINGS!

Do you really only need one apple?

Yep! One good sized green apple is all you need! It will give you 4 servings of two dumplings per serving. You could double the recipe in a larger baking dish to get 8 servings.

I don’t really like the flavor of crescent rolls? Does this taste like crescent rolls?

No. I really don’t think you taste that traditional crescent roll flavor. The crescent rolls take on a whole new flavor when combined with the cinnamon, sugar, butter and lemon lime soda.

Are these super sweet?

They are certainly sweet but I think it’s always hard to tell other people how sweet or salty something is. Things I think aren’t sweet at all may be super sweet to others so I take those descriptions with a grain of salt. I think these are just the right amount of sweetness. However, others who are sensitive to sweetness may find them too sweet. I’ve always been told that the older we get, the less sweet we like our foods. You can always test the recipe out and then adjust to your particular tastes.

Can I use sugar free options?

I always get this question on dessert recipes. I do not bake or cook with sugar substitutes. At least not regularly. So I really can never say for certain. However, if you are accustomed to baking with sugar substitutes then honestly you would know better than me if this would work and how to do it.

  1. Just made these for a party and they were a HUGE hit. Everyone wanted the recipe. Going to make them for Thanksgiving as well. Not that it matters, since they are so full of calories anyway but I cut out just a few by using a Sprite Zero because that was all I had on hand. You would never have known!

  2. I just love these! My husband loves them more! I've been making them for about a year now and decided to "play around" with it a little. So, another great fruit that works well in this is Peaches! Turns out awesome too!

  3. This recipe is awesome. I've used ordinary cinnamon, but added 1/4 teaspoon of freshly grated nutmeg. This is AWESOME!!!!

  4. This looks awesome! I like others would like to know about using sprite or other canned drink. I do not drink any of these at all so I would like to leave this out. Can someone share the purpose of using it as well as what could be used in place of the drink or can it be excluded all together. I would like to make these for my mother who is diabetic so that would be another reason to exclude all the sugar in the drink.
    Thank you for your time.

  5. I'm just sooooo glad I found your blog. I just LOVE your recipes. It just shouts 'for me'. I love to cook and bake, but most days am too busy to stay in the kitchen long. I can't wait to surprise my husband and kids with some of your delicious recipes. Thanks so much!

  6. I made these tonight and they were absolutely delicious. And they are so easy to make, I will definitely be making them again. I have 2 questions, though. First, what exactly does the sprite/7-up do? Do you have to use it, and do you know how much of a difference it would make to not use it? And second, mine tasted delicious, but unlike the picture you posted of the finished product, mine still had about 1/4" of the butter/soda mixture in the pan. My little dumplins were practically floating even after baking for 40 minutes. The only alterations I made to the recipe were using margarine instead of butter, ( I know, I hate myself for it too hahaha) and I used Mtn Dew instead of sprite. Any insight would be appreciated.

  7. HI Jenny! Thank you so very much! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a message on here. SO very sweet! I am so happy you found this one to be a "keeper". I hope you find lots more recipes on here that you love!! ~Brandie

  8. I made these dumplins late this morning for lunch. I care-take my parents (85 & 86 yrs. old) and it's not easy to come up with something interesting day-in & day-out. My Mom, Dad & son said it's the best they've ever had! My Mom said, "Send this page link to my sisters, daughter & grandkids; it's that much of a keeper"!

My Dad took care of my Mom until early 2012, when his health started to weaken. He watched me make it and said it's easy enough for even him to make.

Thanks for some of the greatest tasting recipes I've ever found online.

  9. I tried this tonight and it was delicious I will brush the apples in sugar next time, but other then that I will definitely be using this recipe again…

  10. You were so sweet to come back & let me know how this recipes has turned out for you. I am so happy you love it so much!

  11. I love this recipe! I have made it over a jillion times, my family, neighbors and friends just love it! It is so easy to make and puts smiles on anyone who tries them 🙂

  12. Every Sunday, my son and I watch "Once Upon A Time"…Every Sunday, I make an apple dish for us to eat during the show…Being that the main character is Snow White and..well..you remember the story…

I came across this recipe because, quite frankly, I stalk Brandie's page daily. She's directly responsible for getting all these kids of mine fed on a weekly basis…but anyway..

If the smell is any indication, we're going to LOVE these!

Just one dumb question, though…What is the significance of the Sprite in the recipe?

    Thanks Brandie!

    LeighAnne

  13. I have made Apple Dumplins 2 times and had to share the recipe with many gals. Everyone loves it! I did find the Saigon Cinnamon and I think it adds a special touch. Thanks for sharing a great recipe!

  14. I use this recipe for gatherings all of the time… with one smal change.. try using Code Red Mountain Dew instead of the sprite… it gives it a kick of cherry flavor…I also add cherries at Christmas.. just to make it look a little more like Christmas. Blessings

  15. I'm SO happy to hear y'all are loving these!! Thank you so much for leaving such nice comments! Maha – thank you! I wish I knew of a substitution that would work for you. I'm just not that familiar with other products from different countries. I guess maybe you could make them from scratch but then they wouldn't be called Easy Apple Dumplings. And I honestly don't have a from-scratch recipe for crescent rolls. I'm so sorry!

  16. Hi 🙂
I've been following your recipes for quite some time cuz they keep popping up on my fb wall and then I just start browsing thru all ur recipes and lose track of time imagining I'd be able to cook them some day 🙂 they look soooooo delicious!

But when I saw your Easy Apple Dumplings I knew I had to try it! But we don't get Crescent Rolls here…is there anything I can replace it with?

  17. I made these last Sunday! And, I made 24 of them. I used the cinnamon sugar instead of plain cinnamon and also apples from Mother-in-laws tree. I added about 2 teaspoons of regular cinnamon to the sugar/butter mixture and instead of sprite, I used 7-up! My-my, they were ooohhh, so good!

  18. Oh my, I just made these! They are sooooo yummy! A little sweet so next time I might cut back on the sugar a little bit. My 5 year old loved them (without the apple LOL). I might have to bring them to our next game night! Thanks for the recipe.

  19. If your scared of sweet stay away from these. Oh my goodness these are sooooo good. I have taken these to a church supper and none returned home. lol I also baked some last night and had with ice cream. Yum!! Super easy and super tasty. You will never go wrong making this dessert! lol
