Easy Apple Dumplings
These Easy Apple Dumplings are made with crescent rolls, cinnamon, butter, sugar and lemon lime soda. The flavor is amazing!
An Easy Apple Dessert
In my opinion, any time of year is a good time for apple recipes. Not just fall! There are just so many great ways to use apples and my brain just starts buzzing with all the possibilities. One of the first recipes that always comes to mind are these dumplings.

It was the best! Our cousin Jan made this for us, and I just had to find you and get the recipe. I will for sure be making this. A big Thank you to THE COUNTRY COOK!

Absolutely! Peaches work perfect in this dessert. Check out my recipe for Peach Dumplings!
Yep! One good sized green apple is all you need! It will give you 4 servings of two dumplings per serving. You could double the recipe in a larger baking dish to get 8 servings.
No. I really don’t think you taste that traditional crescent roll flavor. The crescent rolls take on a whole new flavor when combined with the cinnamon, sugar, butter and lemon lime soda.
They are certainly sweet but I think it’s always hard to tell other people how sweet or salty something is. Things I think aren’t sweet at all may be super sweet to others so I take those descriptions with a grain of salt. I think these are just the right amount of sweetness. However, others who are sensitive to sweetness may find them too sweet. I’ve always been told that the older we get, the less sweet we like our foods. You can always test the recipe out and then adjust to your particular tastes.
I always get this question on dessert recipes. I do not bake or cook with sugar substitutes. At least not regularly. So I really can never say for certain. However, if you are accustomed to baking with sugar substitutes then honestly you would know better than me if this would work and how to do it.

Ingredients Needed: (See Recipe Card Below For The Full Recipe)
- green apple – you want to use a tart apple here (like a Granny Smith) since they hold up better to the baking process and won’t turn to mush like a red apple.
- crescent rolls – you can use any brand of crescent rolls that you prefer. I promise these will not taste like rolls once it its all baked up together.
- butter – it needs to be real butter, not margarine (like Country Crock, etc) because margarine is just oil and that won’t set up properly here. I just usually use salted butter to balance out the overall sweetness but you can use unsalted if that is all you have.
- sugar – I have not tried this with a sugar substitute so I can’t really tell you how that would turn out. If you decide to experiment with a sugar substitute, please let me know how it turns out for you!
- vanilla extract
- cinnamon – cinnamon goes so well with apples. I suppose you could skip it but I think you’d be losing a lot of flavor.
- flour – don’t skip the flour, this is what helps thicken the sauce.
- lemon lime soda – I have made this with Sprite, 7Up and Mountain Dew. They all work great! I haven’t tried this with diet soda so I can’t tell you how that would turn out but if you give it a try, I would love to know how it goes for you. I am sure it would work fine.

How To Make Easy Apple Dumplings
Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray an 8-inch square pan with nonstick spray. Peel and core apple. Cut apple into 8 slices.

Unroll tube of crescent rolls and separate into 8 pieces. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on the inside of the crescent roll. Add one apple slice. Roll it up in a nice little bundle.

Continue with next 7 rolls the same way. Place all 8 dumplings into baking dish. Mix together melted butter with sugar, flour and vanilla extract.

Pour butter mixture on top of crescent rolls. Now take soda and pour it around the edges of the crescent rolls. Sprinkle with a little more cinnamon if you prefer.

Bake in preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes. The dumplings create the most amazing sauce on the bottom. So scoop that up when serving!

You can eat it all by itself or serve warm with ice cream.

Oh my gosh….I have nothing original to say, but I’d like to join the many who have praised this dessert!! Served it today with a heavy lunch, one was enough, with a tiny scoop of ice-cream. (BUT that didn’t prevent them taking home another for dessert tonight!)
ALL asked for the recipe!
One of the reasons, this will be my fall ‘go-to’ is that they are all individual and perfect sized for each, AND far easier than pie.
It will now grace my Thanksgiving dessert buffet.
Thank you for a gem of a unique recipe! (soda….really?! It’s magic!”0)
Also, no one seemed to mention, but this can be served hot or room temp.(another win!)
Awww what a wonderful comment Michelle! That means so much and I am so happy you took the time to come back and comment!!
Excellent! I am not a fan of crescent rolls in recipes but you were right, you cannot tell these are made with crescent rolls once it is all baked up together. Worked great!!
It was the best! Our cousin Jan made this for us, and I just had to find you and get the recipe.
I will for sure be making this. A big Thank you to THE COUNTRY COOK!
Delicious! I added some brown sugar in the croissant because why not?
OMG, these are sooo good!! I have made these three times now and they turn out perfect every time. Next time I am going to try pears and ginger-ale. : )
Delicious!
I saw this recipe and had to try it, so I made it tonight and we both loved it. Will be making it again soon. Thanks so much.
Wonderful to hear! Thank you for taking the time to come back and review Brenda!

OMGOSH! Brandie, you are making my husband so happy by sending along these APPLE Recipes. I keep making them and he keeps eating them!
Haha!! Love hearing that Olivia! Thank you!
My husband likes the caramel apple empanadas from Taco Bell. I think a little drizzle of caramel ice cream topping would pretty much do the trick! Thanks!
I think that would be PERFECT!!
They are easy and amazing!
The recipe states video, but there is no video to be viewed.
Just thought you might like to know
You are so right – I forgot to add the video. I got it fixed – thank you for pointing that out!
This recipe has been around for awhile. I got recipe from a friend about 2005, They were called Apple Dew Bites then due to the use of Mt Dew. Wonderful and easy.
The first recipe calls for 3/4 cup of lemon lime soda. The recipe following all the pictures calls for 1/2 cup lemon lime soda. Which is correct? Thank You.
Hi Vikki, it is 3/4 cup. 🙂
Will sweetened lemon water due. We’re not soda drinkers. I’m going to experiment but these look delicious.
Hi Margo – I am not a soda drinker either but you barely get any with each serving. It helps to transform the flavor of the crescent rolls. I wouldn’t use water as it will make the rolls soggy. You could maybe use apple juice. 🙂
Margo, read one of the comment above, she used orange juice.
Hi Brandi, Love your weekly recipes! Made Apples Dumplings, awesome and so easy, used orange juice instead of soda. Thanks for a great recipe. Margaret
Thanks Margaret-those apple dumplings are certainly easy and oh so good!
These are so, so good!
Made these. Loved it. Didn’t change a thing!
I have made these and they are sooooooo yummy. They are rich! My grandson has asked for them for the family July 4th cookout. I don't think they will last long.
I just made these. And OMG I couldn't wait for them to cool, they smelled so wonderful..
I ate two and went back for two more with aliitle whip cream. I will definitely be making
these again. Thanks for sharing your moms recipe.
Awesome recipe! I used Granny Smith apples, margarine instead of butter and Mountain Dew
