Coney Dogs~Everyday Mom's Meals

You know, I am feeling so thankful today. I am so thankful to my Country Cook friends. I am thankful to those of you who take the time to comment on the blog and over on facebook and twitter. And I'm thankful for the friends who decide to come on here and share a recipe. I just wanted to say thank you so much, from the bottom of my heart.
Y'all are good people and I am grateful to know you.

And today I'm also thankful that we have another Momma in the kitchen with us.
Her name is Krista, and she writes for her blog, Everyday Mom's Meals.
Krista and I meet through facebook. She's a Momma to a little boy named Alexander,
like myself, so we had a lot in common right off the bat.

Krista enjoys making and creating family-friendly meals. If the meal gets the thumbs up from her husband and her son then she shares those dishes on her blog.
Does that sound like someone else you know?
Hmmmmm?
Maybe it rings a bell?

After you see the recipe she is sharing today, you will surely want to
visit her blog to see more.

I hope y'all will give a warm country welcome to Krista!

Hi, I'm Krista and I'm the everyday mom of Everyday Mom's Meals. I am SO excited to be here today and to have the chance to guest blog is such a blessing! I am a full time wife to my husband of 8 years Adam and our beautiful, and VERY active 6 1/2 year old son Alex. We enjoy good food that brings us around our dining room table and I enjoy easy, home style recipes that remind me of family. I started blogging in May of 2010 and am so thankful for the wonderful world it's opened up to me. Meeting new people, learning new things, sharing food over cyberspace....all of it has become such a huge part of my life. I hope to see some of you on Everyday Mom's Meals very soon, and I would love if one of my recipes made it's way to your family's table!

Today I'm sharing the most important part of one of my "boys" favorite dishes, Coney Dogs.  About 5 minutes from our house is one of our favorite diners that serve the "all hail" of coney dogs. Alex would eat there every day if we let him, so you can imagine his excitement when Mommy started making them at home. We always say his love affair with them started early because they were one of the few things I craved while pregnant, and ate every Saturday during the last trimester!! HA! Whatever the reason, these have been a huge hit in my house, and my fans have come to love them too. They are easy, tasty and fun for everyone! Enjoy!!!
Ingredients:

1/2 cup finely chopped onion
2 TBS butter
1 lb. lean ground beef
2 TBS yellow mustard
2 TBS cider vinegar
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp. hot pepper sauce
1 cup ketchup
2 tsp. paprika
2 tsp. chili powder

Directions:
Sauté onions and garlic in butter, add ground beef and break up until fine (I use a potato masher). Cook until brown and drain fat. Combine mustard, vinegar, Worcestershire, hot pepper sauce, ketchup, paprika and chili powder and mix well. Add to beef mixture. Stir well and heat. Let simmer for at least an hour. Use to top hot dogs and onions to garnish.

We are big hot dog eaters in this house. I'm pretty sure my husband and son
single-handedly keep the hot dog industry in business.
A big thank you to Krista for sharing one of her favorite recipes with us today.

Please be sure to stop by her blog sometime to check out her other tasty recipes.

You can also find Krista hanging out on facebook and twitter as well.

Enjoy!

This is how many people eat their hot dogs in parts of WV and VA. Their only addition is to often add some cole slaw which makes them even more delicious. Thanks for posting.

This post made me giddy. I had been talking about how I was craving coney dogs a couple weeks back with my guy and he surprised me with the stuff to make them for lunch one day. I need to give this recipe a try since it is different than what we had. Yummy! Thanks for sharing this recipe Krista.

Krista, we would all eat at Coney Island every day if we could...I will have to try these because they look alot like theirs & they are the best. I couldn't believe it this year when January rolled around & I realized we had forgotten to make our yearly trip to see the Santa & eat Coney dogs :(

Hi Krista, What a pleasure to meet you! I love your two member judging panel - it made me laugh as I realized I do the same thing eliciting reaction from my judging panel before it goes on the blog. I also appreciate how quickly this tasty looking meal comes together, another bonus with wee ones running around. Thank you for sharing the recipe and happy cooking!

Hi back! It's so funny b/c Alex will put his little thumb in the air and say "blog" and I know that's my cue! I hope you enjoy the recipe and come back to EMM anytime!

This looks fantastic, and I love that you use a potato masher on the ground beef--that makes for such a great texture.

Krista, thanks for the great recipe. :) The person above is right about the coleslaw. Here in my area of WV, these dogs would also have ketchup and then be topped with coleslaw. Sounds kinda weird until you actually eat it!! YUMMY
