FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What sides should I serve with these Texas Toast Meatball Subs?

In my pictures, you’ll see we enjoyed it with a salad topped with my Homemade Ranch Dressing, but any salad will work. Pick up a bag of salad with dressing for an easy option! Any side of your favorite vegetables would go great. Try some Sheet Pan Vegetables, or grab a bag of your favorite steamed veggies and keep it simple!

What other cheese could I use?

If you don’t want to use the mozzarella, I think provolone cheese would be a yummy substitute.

Can I use homemade meatballs instead?

Of course! This is your kitchen, I ain’t telling you what to do. 🙂 This recipe was made with convenience in mind, so I used all premade things, but by all means, if you have the time and resources, feel free to make the homemade versions. You can use this Homemade Meatball recipe if you like or try these Homemade Chicken Meatballs.

Can I use homemade garlic bread instead?

Yup. This recipe can be as easy or as time consuming as you wish! Homemade Garlic Bread can be used instead.

Can I use homemade marinara sauce instead?

Just with the other homemade swaps, you can certainly make some sauce or use Homemade Marinara Sauce if desired.

How to store leftover Texas Toast Meatball Subs?

You can place them in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. You can place them in the oven to reheat. I haven’t tried to freeze them but I think you could.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • frozen Italian meatballs – use your favorite brand here or even use your favorite homemade meatball recipe. Just make sure they are small enough to fit onto the garlic bread.
  • roasted garlic pasta sauce– I really like Rao’s roasted garlic pasta sauce or Aldi’s Specially Selected Premium Marinara Sauce. Use your favorite sauce here.
  • frozen garlic Texas toast
  • mozzarella cheese slices– if you don’t have slices of the mozzarella cheese, you could use shredded mozzarella. I just find that the slices are just a bit easier to use.
  • dried parsley– if you want an extra pop of flavor, try using Italian seasoning instead of parsley on top of the subs.

HOW TO MAKE TEXAS TOAST MEATBALL SUBS

Preheat the oven to 425° F. In a large skillet, add the meatballs and sauce over medium heat. Simmer until the meatballs are tender and heated through. This will take approximately 10 minutes. While the meatballs are cooking, bake the garlic Texas toast according to the package on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. This will take approximately 5-7 minutes.

Once cooked, remove from the oven. Press the center of the toast with the back of a spoon. Scoop 4 meatballs and sauce onto each piece of toast (note: with the meatballs I used, I could fit 4 on each slice of toast)

Top with a 1/2 slice to 1 slice of cheese (depending on how cheesy you like it.) Place back into the oven for 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted.

Delicious, fast, easy and fun. paired with a salad it is a well balanced tasty meal. and for those who eat garlic bread anyway you don’t need pasta for a nice Italian meal.
