I like to use semi-sweet chocolate chips since it balances out the sweetness of the bars themselves. You can use milk chocolate or dark chocolate if you’d like though.

How many bars does this make?

Depending on how large or small you want them, they will either make 9 or 16.

Can I double this recipe?

Absolutely, just double the ingredients and bake them in a 9×13-inch baking dish. They will need to bake slightly longer.

Can I top these bars with anything?

These chocolate chip bars are great topped with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of chocolate or caramel syrup!

How do I store leftovers?

These can be stored in an airtight container where they will keep at room temperature for up to 1 week. They can also be frozen. Place in a freezer container and they will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. To defrost, remove to the countertop overnight.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST)

  • all-purpose flour 
  • baking soda 
  • baking powder 
  • sea salt 
  • butter
  • granulated sugar 
  • light brown sugar
  • egg 
  • vanilla extract 
  • chocolate chips  
  • caramel bits 
  • salt flakes (garnish, optional)
Ingredients needed: all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, sea salt, butter, granulated sugar, light brown sugar, egg, vanilla extract, chocolate chips, caramel bits and salt flakes.

HOW TO MAKE SALTED CARAMEL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE BARS:

Spray a 9×9-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray then line with parchment paper. Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt.

In another mixing bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar and granulated sugar. Mix with an electric mixer until creamed.

Add egg and vanilla extract. Mix with an electric mixer until combined.

Slowly add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, mixing as you go until it’s all just combined.

Spread cookie batter into the baking pan. Spread evenly and smooth with a spatula or use your hands if that’s easier. Spray your hand with a little nonstick spray to keep it from sticking. Sprinkle the top with a little bit of sea salt flakes (optional)

Bake for 20-22 minutes or until golden and cooked to your desired crispiness. Remember it will continue cooking a little when you remove it from the oven. Once cool, remove from the baking dish and cut into 9 squares.

    1. You can see them in my ingredient photo above. They’re made by Kraft and you can find them in the baking aisle with the chocolate chips. Instead of unwrapping a bunch of little caramels for baking, Kraft introduced these a few years ago. You can google them if you need to see the packaging 🙂
