FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is chocolate mousse made of?

The most basic recipe is made with chocolate (of course), butter, cream, sugar, eggs and butter. This recipe I am sharing doesn’t include raw eggs and is a simpler process to achieve the same results.

What’s the difference between chocolate pudding and chocolate mousse?

Chocolate pudding is cooked and chocolate mousse is uncooked. Pudding is thick, smooth and creamy and mousse is a bit more fluffy (but still thick).

Do I have to use dutch process cocoa powder?

No but the color of the mousse might be slightly lighter and not as strong a chocolate flavor but it will still taste amazing.

What is the taste and texture of this Chocolate Mousse?

The method that we use results more of a thicker mouse like the French style that uses raw eggs. It is thick but also light and fluffy at the same time. It has a deep chocolate flavor without being too sweet.

What does the instant coffee do?

Adding coffee or instant coffee to anything chocolate brings out the flavor of the chocolate more. You do not have to use it as it is optional but we love using it in various recipes that use chocolate.

What is the best chocolate to use?

I like to use semi-sweet baking bars for this recipe, it balances out the sweetness. But you can choose your chocolate flavor, try milk chocolate or dark chocolate. Each different type of chocolate will give you different levels of chocolatey-ness.

How long does chocolate mousse last?

Mousse can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator where it will last for up to 3 days. It can also be frozen. Place in a freezer container and it will keep for up to 3 months. To defrost, remove to the refrigerator overnight.
