FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What to serve with these cheesesteaks?

Serve with french fries or a side salad. I also think Cheesesteaks are perfect with good ole chips, tater tots or onion rings.

How should I cut the steak so it’s tender?

When cutting the steak look for subtle lines. You want to cut perpendicular to those lines. Cutting against the grain will result in tender pieces of meat.

What other cut of meat will work?

I think the pre-shaved steak that you find packaged in the meat section can also be used for a more affordable option. A lot of different meat options could work because we’re cooking it in the slow cooker, even tougher cuts of meat will get nice and tender (tougher cuts I would suggest only cooking on low though.) But flat iron steak and sirloin steak are other good options.

Can I skip browning the meat?

While you don’t technically need to brown the steaks, I think browning really adds great color and makes it more appealing/appetizing. But if you need to skip it, you could.

How do I store leftovers?

You can keep the leftovers in the fridge for up to 3 days in an airtight container. You can reheat over medium heat or in the microwave until warmed through.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • ribeye steak – see my Frequently Asked Questions above for other options. I know ribeye steak is not cheap so I give some alternatives above.
  • beef broth – keep in mind the gravy mix has salt in it so if you have any sensitivities to salt, I would use a low or no sodium beef broth.
  • packet au jus gravy mix
  • garlic – I always like fresh garlic but you can go wit the jarred stuff if you prefer.
  • Italian seasoning
  • garlic powder
  • onion powder
  • onions and bell peppers – these are obviously traditional to philly cheesesteaks but if you don’t like one or the other, you can leave it out.
  • hoagie or sub rolls
  • Cheez Whiz– Obviously Cheez Whiz is the standard liquid cheese to use with traditional Philly Cheesesteaks but you can make it Homemade Cheese Sauce if you prefer.
