In case many of you don't know it, I have recipes that totally bomb sometimes.
You don't see those recipes on here because, well, they are bombs and I only want to share the dishes that
me and my family really love and enjoy.
me and my family really love and enjoy.
But trust me, they do happen and they happen more often than you know.
Afterall, I'm just an average homecook, not Giada De Laurentiis (not even close).
This next recipe started off as a bomb. And not like "Da Bomb" but a BOMB (Kaboom!).
The original recipe for this punch called for some grapefruit juice to be added.
And well, it was the grapefruit juice that would eventually doom this recipe to failure.
Now, I not only bombed in front of my family, I bombed in front of a house full of guests.
Yep, that's me! I just had to try a new recipe at a BBQ.
There were exactly 3 people who absolutely loved the original punch recipe. Two of them were the hosts of the party. In fact, they wouldn't let me leave with the leftover punch, they insisted on keeping it. And the other person was my Dad (who may have been humoring me). Anyways, they are obviously in the grapefruit-juice lover category.
They thought it made it taste like a margarita.
In fact, my Dad was wishing he had brought some Captain Morgan along.
The rest of us thought it was much too tart. I started adding more water and sugar to it but it just didn't really do much to it in my way of thinking.
I really wanted a good punch to be able to take to potlucks or baby showers and I wanted one that didn't involve sherbet.
Also, Gene and I both decided we wanted a more pronounced strawberry flavor.
So it was back to the drawing board and this recipe was totally overhauled.

Round Two - this punch was a knockout. This is sure to be a hit with adults and kids! See my notes below for other suggestions.
Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 can (12 oz) frozen Strawberry Daiquiri concentrate, thawed
1 pack of Strawberry Kool-Aid
1, 2-Liter Ginger Ale (or 7-up)
1, 1-Liter strawberry sparkling water
1 bag of Frozen Sliced Strawberries (optional)
| (You can usually find bottles of flavored sparkling water where the other bottles of water are kept in your grocery store) |
Before party, in a small pitcher or bowl, mix together strawberry daiquiri concentrate and Kool-Aid until thoroughly combined. Pop mixture into fridge until ready for party. Also, put Ginger Ale and Strawberry Sparkling Water in fridge to keep cool.
When ready to prepare punch, pour concentrate mixture into punch bowl or server, pour in Ginger Ale and Sparkling Water slowly so the bubbles don’t fizz out of control. Stir slowly to combine. Add frozen strawberries on top to keep mixture cool and to make it look pretty.
Makes 1 gallon.
Cook’s Notes: If you can’t find the strawberry sparkling water, just substitute with more Ginger Ale. Strawberry daiquiri concentrate is non-alcoholic. You can certainly add a bit of Rum to this if you want to make it more grown-up.
Also, If you are serving a large party or group, I definitely suggest doubling this recipe. If you want to make this a strawberry lemon punch, just substitute a packet of lemonade Kool-Aid for the strawberry. Be sure to taste test after stirring, you may need to add a bit of sugar to the mix (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup).
Enjoy!

I should really be starting my day of with a glass of o.j... But, this looks really good!

Hey Brandie! Everyone bombs - you are not alone! This punch is sounds great - like you said, you get tired of the ones with sherbert. Keep up the great work!

ReplyDeleteThat looks so wonderful for summer. I cannot wait for my next event to give this a try. You make the best things.
ReplyDeleteLove every bit of this! I just bought a flat of berries at our local farmers market so I think I will use those to keep it nice and cold..... Yum!!
ReplyDeleteI think we all make mistakes in the kitchen... we're human. Some recipes have come from a mistake a cook or chef made.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really really tasty! I love the combination of ginger ale and strawberry, yum!
ReplyDeleteI take berry-flavored sparkling water in my lunch almost every day. I just love the stuff. I'm sure I'd love it in this punch. Although, I'd prob throw some rum in there, too. ;) I'm sorry to hear the first attempt bombed. I really, really hate when that happens! We've all been there. I think you definitely redeemed yourself with this punch, though. No worries, girl!
ReplyDeleteThis looks delicious!!
ReplyDeleteBran this sounds super delish and so refreshing! Bookmarking right now : )
ReplyDeleteIt's what makes you a great cook. If we didn't bomb on certain things, we'd never learn! I love the look of this strawberry punch (love also your presentation, Brandie) and mixed with ginger ale would certainly go down a treat anywhere. Fabulous!
ReplyDeleteAwww!! We all have those recipes that just don't pan out the first time, and like you those never make it to my blog. Like the overly salty chicken noodle soup that about killed my hubby last year... HAHA! But this recipe sounds fantastic! I never thought about adding flavored sparkling water to punch recipes, but that is a fantastic idea! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so refreshing. The 2nd time's the charm...!
ReplyDeleteMmm I just LOVE sparkling punch and this recipe looks so refreshingly good! Great pictures as well, perfect for summer :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks so pretty, and sounds amazing! I want to come to one of your parties!
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion this sounds perfect, and very pretty!
ReplyDeleteEwww. I don't think I would have liked the stuff with the grapefruit juice. I'm glad you were able to fix this recipe. It sounds awesome!

I often go "back to the drawing board" to change up a recipe that didn't go quite the way I wanted it to the first time! Your punch sounds delicious and refreshing! :)
ReplyDeleteI made this for my sister's baby shower this weekend and received rave reviews! Everyone agreed that the sugar wasn't necessary. Now we can't wait to make a mommy version as well! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a great recipe!
Shari - thank you for coming back & letting me know how it turned out for you. I'm so happy to hear everyone enjoyed it! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteMade your Punch for my Professor's 50th birthday. My fellow labmates and my professor absolutely loved it. Mixed the drink in lab... so easy. took me a total of 2 mins! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be making this for a bridal shower, then turning it into the "adult" version later on for the bachelorette party... How much rum would you add to one batch of punch?
ReplyDeleteHey Jenni! Great question! But it's kinda one I don't have an answer to. It really is a matter of taste/strength. How strong do you want it to be or do you want it as a background flavor. So I would suggest adding a little at a time then tasting a bit after each addition til you get it exactly how you want it. Sorry I'm not more helpful here!
