AN EASY APPLE DESSERT
In my opinion, any time of year is a good time for apple recipes. Not just fall! There are just so many great ways to use apples and my brain just starts buzzing with all the possibilities. One of the first recipes that always comes to mind are these dumplings.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Absolutely! Peaches work perfect in this dessert. Check out my recipe for FRESH PEACH DUMPLINGS!
Yep! One good sized green apple is all you need! It will give you 4 servings of two dumplings per serving. You could double the recipe in a larger baking dish to get 8 servings.
No. I really don’t think you taste that traditional crescent roll flavor. The crescent rolls take on a whole new flavor when combined with the cinnamon, sugar, butter and lemon lime soda.
They are certainly sweet but I think it’s always hard to tell other people how sweet or salty something is. Things I think aren’t sweet at all may be super sweet to others so I take those descriptions with a grain of salt. I think these are just the right amount of sweetness. However, others who are sensitive to sweetness may find them too sweet. I’ve always been told that the older we get, the less sweet we like our foods. You can always test the recipe out and then adjust to your particular tastes.
I always get this question on dessert recipes. I do not bake or cook with sugar substitutes. At least not regularly. So I really can never say for certain. However, if you are accustomed to baking with sugar substitutes then honestly you would know better than me if this would work and how to do it.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST)
- green apple
- crescent rolls
- butter
- sugar
- vanilla extract
- cinnamon
- flour
- lemon lime soda
HOW TO MAKE EASY APPLE DUMPLINGS:
Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray an 8-inch square pan with nonstick spray.
Peel and core apple. Cut apple into 8 slices.
Unroll tube of crescent rolls and separate into 8 pieces. Sprinkle a little cinnamon on the inside of the crescent roll.
Add one apple slice. Roll it up in a nice little bundle.
Continue with next 7 rolls the same way. Place all 8 dumplings into baking dish.
Mix together melted butter with sugar, flour and vanilla extract.
Pour butter mixture on top of crescent rolls.
Now take soda and pour it around the edges of the crescent rolls. Sprinkle with a little more cinnamon if you prefer.
Bake in preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes. The dumplings create the most amazing sauce on the bottom. So scoop that up when serving!
You can eat it all by itself or serve warm with ice cream.

I cook a few raisins and added to mine. Also try Williams and Sonoma cinnamon the best.
I have just taken these out of the oven and my kitchen is smelling so nice with cinnamon, I will reheat for dinner in about 4 hours. Can't wait, thanks for the recipe. PS I used pastry
I had to try them, just out some in the oven, will let you know how they turn out. They already smell so good.
Try..
A&W diet cream soda..just 1/2 cup..
(No citrus..no sugar)but still very sweet and organic brown sugar wih the cinnamon.
I use cinnamon sugar and a dash of nutmeg just to give it the apple pie flavor. It is really good. I had to make these every other day for two weeks as no one could eat just one!!
i loved these for the taste and simplicity, but i did feel guilty about all the butter and sugar used. in fact, right after baking, i poured the excess 'sauce' off so the dumplings weren't sitting in them. I wonder if there were any variations I could do to take some of the calories out of the recipe?
Okay for starters I'm a guy and this looks like something that I won't mess up but you don't say how much pop to put in (we say pop on the west coast). I'm thinking not the whole can. 🙂
I want to try these but just curious as to what the purpose of the soda is? Im not a baker by no means so was wondering. …thanks
Hi, Iive in Australia and would love to make these but, we don't have crescent rolls here. Would it still work if I made them with puff pastry? Love your recipes.
Question…dies the bottom become soggy? They look delicious, but wonder how soft/soggy the bottoms are.
OMG THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST APPLE DESERT EVER I TRIED IT AND EVERYONE LOVED IT. And Very easy…look forward to more ideas….. thank you…
Omgoodness. This had got to be the best thing. Ever!!! It's a combo of all my favorite thing. I literally just made it and ate one. My house smells like movie popcorn, fresh bread and Apple pie. My three favorite smells. At first I thought I used too much liquid bc it was covering half of the wrap but the crescent roll soaks it up. The bottom is ooey gooey and the top is munchy crunchy and best of all, they're small, quick and the easiest recipe for even beginner bakers like me. I can go on and on about how it's my new favorite thing in the world. This is going on my holiday menu. Thank you!!
These were good but needed to amp them up a bit. Instead of cinnamon on the roll up it was brown sugar. I lightly salted the apples – once rolled up I sprinkled sugar/cinnamon over the top. The sugar/butter/vanilla mixture was added when it was foaming – almost like marshmallows…. poured over the top… added the squirt. You can't eat just one!
Quick question – could you use Splenda (truvia, etc.) instead of sugar? and could you use "diet" 7-up?
Thanks!
Gonna try this, sounds delious! But what is the soda for and is their a replacement?
I just tried these…yummy! I used reduced fat crescent rolls (that's what I had on hand). There was lots of butter left in the pan when I was done, so next time I will try cutting it in half and maybe increasing the 7-Up. May also try a little less sugar. Such a great "base" recipe to play with…thanks!
Two tips:
To keep it from sticking, you can use parchment paper.
For the person who is allergic to citrus, what about just using sparkling water with some sugar added to it?
My friend hooked me up with this recipe year, n i TOTALLY love these!!! So easy, the kids love them, n doesn't take a ton of money for the ingredients….So i make them all the time lol so yum….
This sounds wonderful! I can't wait to try! For those trying to avoid the citrus , I would suggest using ginger ale. I'm thinking it would be a plus addition to the taste as well as the aroma. That is what I plan to use. For those trying to keep their sugars or carbs low, (diabetics) use a combo of alternative sugars (I like to use Splenda and stevia) and then use a diet soda.
Thank you Brandie for this very, very delicious recipe. I'm german and also live in Germany, but after 2 vacations in the USA we love american food. Also some of our friends love it. Thank you so much for sharing.

I have a question, I made these over christmas and thay were great! but i sprayed my square glass bakeing Dish with the pam non stick spray and when thay cooled off and i had put them in the refergerator due to i was not sure if these Dumplins could sit out or not well thay really stuck to the pan Do you have any sugestions for me so next time i make them thay will not stick to the pan???? Thank you!
Just took from the oven ..delicious …simple – literally 5 min to prepare. . Looks and tastes like you went to a lot of trouble .Thank you 🙂
Will definitely have to try this!
I add my soda to my wet ingredients, it foams a little and then pour it directly on the dumplings …sometimes I sprinkle brown sugar light over top before baking…Never tried w/peaches…that sounds great ..
My husband and I just finished these and everything about it was wonderful. It was soft, crispy and buttery and easy. I used a little allspice and raisins. I cant wait to try it with peaches. Thank you so much.
PEACHES???…NOW YOURE TALKING!!!
