Ramen Skillet Supper

When it comes to dinner in my house, we don't really menu plan a whole lot.
I kinda have an idea for what we will eat that week and I'll buy all the groceries for what I have in mind but what we eat each night is kinda figured out as we go along. I'll throw out the options to everyone and then we all kinda say yay or nay for that night. But, in general, I keep weeknight meals fuss free.  I like meals that don't require a bunch of ingredients or that make a bunch of dishes to wash later.
So, when I was given the opportunity to review the latest Gooseberry Patch cookbook, 101 Stovetop Suppers, I was really excited. This is a cookbook that is right up my alley.
First of all, it came to me at a good time. We are in the thick of summer and turning on the oven also means heating up the house.  So the fact that I can make these meals without turning on the oven is a huge bonus.  But also, it gave me some fresh ideas for new dinner options.
As you can see, I have a bunch of the recipes dog-eared to make.
I was really excited about this cookbook.
There are so many meals in here that sound so good!
The cookbook is broken down into 3 categories.
*Quick & Easy (my favorite for weeknight meals)
*Slowly Slimmered
*Serves a Crowd
This a picture cookbook. That means that each and every recipe has an accompanying photo
Like all Gooseberry Patch cookbooks, all the recipes are submitted by homecooks, just like you and me.  So you know you are getting tried and true recipes that have been tested in  home kitchens around the country.
And, a new feature that Gooseberry Patch is providing are videos.
If you see this icon above any of the recipes, that means Gooseberry Patch has created a video for that recipe and you can watch it on Gooseberry Patch's YouTube channel to get more help on how to make that meal.  This is so wonderful for new and beginner cooks who may need just a bit more help!
So, I chose a meal to make for y'all that caught my eye.
This recipe comes from the Quick & Easy section.
Not only did this meal sound good but I loved that it only had 5 ingredients and was made all in one skillet!  And it was something different than my usual weeknight meals.
But it was different without being too weird or off the wall and it also uses easy-to-find ingredients.  And let me tell ya, I loved it. It had amazing flavor.
It was such a fun yet super easy recipe to whip up!
Ingredients:
1 lb. ground beef
2-1/2 cups water
2 (3 oz.) pkgs. beef-flavor ramen noodles (with seasoning packets)
1/2 cup stir fry sauce
1 (16 oz.) bag frozen stir fry vegetables

Please note the following changes to the original printed recipe:
The original recipe calls for 3 cups of frozen stir-fry vegetables.
I found that this 16 oz. bag of frozen vegetables worked perfectly for this recipe.
Also, the original recipe calls for using only one of the seasoning packets in the ramen noodle packages but I went ahead and used both and still really enjoyed the flavor.
See my notes below for lower sodium options.
Directions:
Brown beef in a large skillet over medium heat; drain grease.
Add water.
Stir in beef flavor seasoning packets.
Add in sauce and frozen stir-fry vegetables.
Stir and bring to a boil.
Reduce heat to medium-low; cover and cook, stirring occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until vegetables are crisp-tender. Then break up the ramen noodles and add them to the skillet.

Teaching my little man some cooking skills. Hopefully he'll sweep some lucky woman off her feet one day because he has mad skills in the kitchen. Hee Hee.
Stir well.
Then cover and cook, stirring occasionally, 5 to 8 minutes, until sauce is
thickened and noodles are tender.
Serves 4.
Note: For those of you with salt or sodium sensitivities, you can replace the beef packets and water in this recipe with low sodium beef broth.

Enjoy!

I have followed Gooseberry for a long time on both Facebook and Pinterest.... but I've never had one of their 'hold in your hand' cookbooks and I'd love to sit down and read it from cover to cover. This cookbook would perfectly fit into my lifestyle. Fingers crossed!!

I would love to win the Gooseberry cookbook for my granddaughter. She is a mother of one 3 year old (girl) and ready to have the second (boy) any day now and needs good easy recipes. I have been trying to teach her and recently bought her a crock pot. When she goes back to work she needs recipes that will be easy and laid out like the ones here on your site and in Gooseberry. Instructions with pictures are so helpful to a new cook. She would love this cookbook and it would be so helpful to her. I love the way you picture everything with your recipes.

Hi, My name is Maxine, and I'm a "cookbookaholic"! It's a sad condition that I inherited from my mother. Symptoms include going into bookstores for a calendar or gift, and coming out with no less than 4 cookbooks from the clearance shelves, spending most of an AMAZON gift card filling up your KINDLE with any and all free or discounted cookbooks, and/or receiving at least 10- 20 emails a day containing recipes! Had Pintrest been around before her passing, I'm sure my mother would have been a zombie, forever in front of the computer! We read cookbooks as some would read a novel, and discuss them after. Winning this giveaway would feed the need!

I collect cookbooks, and have used recipes from all of them at some time over the years. A few are my main go to books, and yours look like it would be a definite go to. I just learned of your line of books, and would like to start with this one and go on to collect your entire collections, as the more I research them, I think you all are wonderful. My collection is to be passed on to my daughter-in-laws and grandchildren some day, so we can keep the good recipes alive. My name is Francene Kaufman, and I view your books on Facebook.

Thank you for a chance to win. I have a bookcase full of recipe books in my kitchen, but love each and every one and especially love to try new recipes. I think this new cookbook would be a 'must-have' as many a time I need a '30 min or less' recipe. These seem a perfect fit!!

I would love to win this cookbook and try out a few new recipes. Then I would send it with my son to college in September so he could have some good recipes to make while he is away from home.

The noodles dish is fantastic, just the right one for me. Easy, quick and satisfy. I like very much the “key point” you have mentioned in this post. “Meals that don't require a bunch of ingredients or that make a bunch of dishes to wash later.” This is what I am looking for… :)

I am a single mom of 2 active children. My daughter has confirmation classes and a job plus she is in pep band so must attend many of the sporting events in the area. My son is in baseball, football and wrestling. There are many nights when we need something easy to cook for supper and I am out of fresh ideas. This cookbook would provide my children and I with new quick and easy sport night suppers.

My hub works third shift so I have to make dinners during the day that he can take for his midnight supper! Lately everything I cook gets the ... "yeah it's good" ... not the "YEAH it's GOOD!!!". I grew up on one pot meals and like to cook the same along with casseroles (comfort!)..the easier the better. The Gooseberry Patch Cookbook looks right up my alley! The pictures are mouthwatering (kind of addicted to food photography!) and recipes look simple to follow. I started following Gooseberry on FB and Pinterest. Thanks for the chance to make something YUMM!

I would love to have this cookbook! I love to bake and cook. I have a hard time coming up with meals every night. I fix the same ol' thing every day it seems, so if I would be good enough to win, maybe I can fix a great new meal for supper every day! I have some good cookbooks, I really like the older ones and those from churches-it seems they have some of the best recipes! Thank you for this chance to win!
