Pork Egg Roll In A Bowl
This Pork Egg Roll in a Bowl is a light, flavorful meal made with ground pork, coleslaw mix, ginger, and garlic. Perfect for meal prep!
An Unwrapped Egg Roll Recipe
By now we are all familiar with “Egg Roll In A Bowl”. It is a great way to get those egg roll flavors but without the wrapper. However, it is still super filling! I have made chicken and beef versions but I had never done pork. It’s a more affordable option compared to beef and it brings a lot of flavor. It is the perfect lighter dinner or lunch option!

Frequently Asked Questions:
Add cooked rice to make this dish more filling, or you can serve it with cauliflower rice for a lower carb option.
Add 1 Tablespoon of rice vinegar or Mirin to the egg roll mixture for a little tangy brightness. You could add some wonton strips for another crunch or texture in this dish. Top each bowl with a fried or soft-boiled egg. Make it spicy by adding chili paste, red pepper flakes, Sriracha, or chili crunch oil. Add more vegetables by mixing in sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, shredded carrots, or snap peas.

Divide egg roll mixture evenly among 4 meal prep containers. Add cooked white rice, if desired. Garnish with green onions, cilantro, and sesame seeds.
Cover and store in the fridge for up to 3 days. This meal is still delicious when eaten cold but you could heat it up for a few seconds in the microwave if you prefer it warm.
Some easy ideas are steamed jasmine, brown rice, or cauliflower rice. You could add the filling to lettuce wraps. Egg drop soup, miso soup, or hot and sour soup are great options ot make with this dish too.
Store leftovers in an airtight container or in meal prep containers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the microwave for 2-3 minutes, or on the stovetop in a skillet until heated through.

Ingredients Needed: (See Recipe Card Below For the Full Recipe)
- ground pork– Use your favorite ground meat. I like to use ground pork, but ground chicken, beef, or turkey works great as well.
- coleslaw mix– You want to cook the coleslaw until softened but not mushy. Use pre-made coleslaw or broccoli slaw to make it easy, but you also can shred your own cabbage. Whatever works for you!
- soy sauce– you can use low sodium soy sauce if you’re sensitive to sodium. I tend to use low sodium more often these days.
- toasted sesame oil– if you don’t have toasted sesame oil, regular sesame oil will work just fine or even olive or avocado oil if you don’t have or don’t like sesame oil.
- grated fresh ginger– if you aren’t comfortable grating fresh ginger, or don’t have any, you can use some of this ginger paste. It also makes it nice and easy to squirt out exactly how much you need and save the rest for later. Typically, you can find the paste in the international food aisle, or more commonly, in the refrigerated produce section. If really in a pinch, you can use a teaspoon of ginger powder.
- garlic– I like fresh minced garlic for the most flavor. But, if you need another option, try this Garlic Paste, again, just like the ginger paste, it’s easily squeezed so you can get just what you need and you’ll be able to save the rest for another recipe. It’s super simple to use and efficient, but can be pricey. Just a heads up, you’ll pay for that convenience in comparison to grabbing some from garlic cloves and grating it yourself. As a last resort, you can use a teaspoon of garlic powder.
- green onions– thinly sliced, but used as an optional garnish. So, no harm, no foul if you don’t have any on hand.
- fresh chopped cilantro– again, an optional ingredient. So, if you’re on the dislike team of cilantro, feel free to omit it, this will still taste great!
- sesame seeds– optional garnish, but adds a nice crunch to the mix
