A Fast 30-Minute Recipe

This Pizza Dough Garlic Cheese Bread is a simple appetizer or snack that comes together quickly. We are huge garlic cheese bread lovers in my family and we love the cheese sticks from Papa Johns that are made with pizza dough. So, I figured I would try to re-create them at home. Cheesy, garlicky deliciousness everyone loved!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What pizza dough should I use?

I am using a thin crust store-bought pizza dough (see my ingredient image below.) You could use a Homemade Pizza Dough if you prefer but you want to get it thin. I’ve found with this recipe, you really need a thin and crispy dough. If you use a regular pizza dough, instead of thin and crispy, these could get very floppy in the middle.
I’d suggest that if you choose to use another type of dough, like a store bought ball of pizza dough, I’d spread it into the pan and poke it with a fork all over first, then I’d par-bake it for a few minutes so it can crisp up a bit before adding the toppings so it doesn’t get floppy.

What dipping sauce should I use?

I like to use pizza sauce but you could also use marinara sauce. If you have Homemade Pizza Sauce, that’s a great go-to as well.

How do I store leftover Garlic Cheese Bread?

You can keep this in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can also freeze before baking for up to 2 months.

Ingredients Needed: (See Recipe Card Below For The Full Recipe)

  • Pillsbury thin and crispy pizza dough – see my ingredient image below for the kind I used. Also, please read my Frequently Asked Questions above on why I chose this specific type of dough.
  • butter– You can use salted or unsalted butter. Just make sure to use butter, not margarine
  • garlic powder and Italian seasoning – I use a combination of these two seasonings but if you just want straight garlic, leave out the Italian seasoning.
  • grated Parmesan cheese – the stuff in the green bottle works just fine.
  • shredded mozzarella cheese – I shredded it myself. I think it helps it melt better. It is easier to grate the mozzarella cheese that is low moisture.
  • dried parsley – this is just going to give it a little color on top.

How To Make Pizza Dough Garlic Cheese Bread

Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a 10×15-inch baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with nonstick cooking spray. Spread the pizza dough, with clean hands, to fit the baking sheet as best as possible. If it isn’t spreading easily, allow it to warm up closer to room temperature and it should spread easier. To the dough, add the melted butter, then use a pastry brush to spread it evenly. Next, sprinkle on the dried seasonings.

Finally, add the parmesan cheese and then top with the mozzarella cheese. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cut into bread sticks.
