Mini Ham and Cheese Pretzel Bites

Easy Mini Ham and Cheese Pretzel Bites are baked savory ham and melty cheese sliders on soft pretzel bites that make quick appetizers, snacks, or simple party food.

A Quick, Scrumptious Recipe!

These Mini Ham and Cheese Pretzel Bites have become one of my favorite go-to appetizers. I don’t know why I didn’t double this when I made it because they were all gone in minutes. I didn’t realize they would be so popular! They’re made with tender pretzel bites, loaded with ham and Swiss cheese, and topped with a buttery glaze. I think they’d make a great light lunch if you pair a few of them with some fruit or other easy light side.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What if I’m having trouble finding the pretzel bites?

I can find these at my local grocery store (and I live in a smaller city) so I figure if I can find them, most people can too. I used the Pretzilla brand (see ingredient image below). King’s Hawaiian (paid affiliate link) also makes them. I suppose you could make them homemade too. King Arthur (paid affiliate link) even has a pretzel bite mix that you can use.

How many servings does this make?

The amount this makes depends on the brand of pretzel bites you get. This one made 22 bites. It really depends on how many bites a person can eat. I have found some people wanted 10 of them and others wanted just 2 or 3. It also depends if you are serving these as an appetizer with other food or as a whole meal.

Can I prepare these ahead of time?

Yes, you can assemble the sliders ahead of time. Just add the butter mixture right before baking.

Can I use regular Hawaiian slider rolls instead of pretzel bites?

Yes, you can definitely substitute regular Hawaiian slider rolls for the pretzel bites. I have a recipe for Hawaiian Party Rolls.

Why are my Pretzel Bites hard?

They may have been overbaked. Keep an eye on them during the final minutes of baking to prevent the tops from becoming too firm.

How do I store the leftovers?

Store leftover sliders in the fridge for up to 4 days. Reheat them in the oven until warm or in the microwave for a quick option.

Ingredients Needed: (See Recipe Card Below For The Full Recipe)

  • pretzel bites– You can find these cute little pretzel bites at just about any grocery store, and any brand will work. Some come with salt already on top, while others include the salt separately. Either option works perfectly for this recipe. If you can’t find them, I don’t really have a substitute. Perhaps try my Ritz Cracker Sandwiches.
  • ham– cut into the size of the pretzel bites. You can use any ham of your choice.
  • Swiss cheese– cut into the size of the pretzel bites. You can use any cheese that you like for this. Provolone, pepper jack, or cheddar all work great in these sliders.
  • unsalted butter– You can use salted butter if that’s what you prefer.
  • poppyseeds– You do not have to use the poppy seeds, but and it does add a bit of color and texture.
  • Dijon mustard– If you’re not a fan of mustard, you can omit this. For this, I would try to stick with the Dijon mustard. Everyone I made this for all voted for the one with dijon mustard (this was sampled with men, women and kids) but I suppose if you only have yellow mustard or really prefer it, then go for it.
  • onion powder
  • Worcestershire sauce
  • pretzel salt that is included with pretzel bites– If for some reason the pretzel bites they use don’t come with pretzel salt, I would suggest using salted butter instead of unsalted. Or use a little bit of coarse kosher salt.
