A number of years ago, a friend got me hooked on Cherry Limeades from Sonic Drive-In. And since that day, I have never looked back. The only time I'll actually buy one these days though is when I can get them at half-price during their Happy Hour.
The rest of the time, I just make them myself.
This is so ridiculously easy, I'm almost embarrassed to share it....almost.
Now, I realize you can go to Wal-Mart and pick up some premade Cherry Limeade.
And that stuff isn't half bad.
But I prefer to make it myself because I can control the flavors more.
And I just think it tastes a bit more like the one from Sonic.
Now, are ya paying attention? There's a lot of ingredients here, don't want ya gettin' lost.
Ingredients:
1 (64 oz.) container of Limeade
1 (10 oz.) jar of Maraschino Cherries (Halves or Whole)
¼ cup sugar (optional)
Shake up container of Limeade well before using. In a 2 quart container, pour in Limeade. Now pour in the juice only from the jar of Maraschino cherries.
Stir very well. Give it a taste. If it is sweet enough for you, stop there. If not, add sugar and stir very well to combine.
Serve with ice. Add cherries and a lime slice to each glass.
Cook's Notes: To make this a bit more bubbly, just add some Sprite, 7-Up or Ginger Ale.

Enjoy!

Oh I have such a secret love for maraschino cherries. I would keep a stash in the fridge when I was pregnant.
ReplyDeleteNow throw a little Bacardi Limon in there, and you have got yourself a par-tay! Is it bad I am talking about rum at 8:30 in the morning? Hmmm.....
ReplyDeleteWhoa! Serious ingredients! ;) Love the simplicity of this! Will make it this weekend! YAY!
ReplyDeleteSounds yummy. Your printable recipes aren't working today.

MaryAn - not sure what is going on. It is working for me. Let me see if anyone else is having problems.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this recipe! I moved to New York from the South 9 years ago only to find that the closest Sonic to me was in Ohio (at that time). Sonic is slowly making an appearance in New York now but the closest one is still a 2 hour drive, so for now I can make my own Cherry LimeAids Thank you Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSo cute and super delicious!! Love cherry limeaid!!
ReplyDeleteThere was a comment on here earlier about how much I thought the price was per glass on this. Not sure what happened to the comment but at my Walmart, the Limeade costs $1.50 and the small jar of cherries cost me about $1.25. Assuming everyone drank about 16 oz., (4 servings), it would cost about .68 cents per glass. Obviously prices vary per region and if it is on sale or not. Hope that helps :)
ReplyDeleteAlso, I always go with store brand when I can. Much cheaper that way!
ReplyDeleteOh Yum!!! I love cherry limeades, I got hooked on them when I moved out here to AZ and my Hubby's family started taking me to Sonic with them. I never even thought to make them at home, I will have to surprise my In Laws with this sometime. They'll love it!
ReplyDeleteYum! That sounds great! I'll have to try that sometime :)
ReplyDeleteSounds delicious! Tart, sweet and utterly refreshing! I love limeade so I will be trying this!

Cookin' for my Captain's FBF #9
Well this is quite the coinkydink! We don't have any Sonic's where I live but on the way home from Rehoboth Beach on Monday my hubby insisted that we had to stop at a Sonic just for the Cherry Limeade. It was definitely worth the stop along with the chili cheese dog I got! I'm going to have to surprise him with this!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect drink for the insanely hot weather we are having - delicious!
ReplyDeleteMary
Love, love, love Sonic's cherry limeade! And I'd love to make it at home rather than drive to Sonic to buy one ... and be tempted to get an order of tots. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe closest Sonic is almost an hour away- this recipe will come in handy. I love their cherry limeade! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! Perfect and refreshing for this ridiculous heat were living in!!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this! All the Sonic's in our area have closed and I have nothing to "scratch my cherry limeade itch." :-) This looks simple, easy and inexpensive. (Also, I must give a nod to your mason jar mugs.) ;-)
ReplyDeleteMy hubs always orders cherry limeades when we do fast food. Actually, he just got one today while we headed out to our house. And then left the drink on our unfinished floor board. :) He would love it if I made this for him!
ReplyDeleteGirl, you are going to be a hero in my house! Cherry Limeades are David's favorite and we have moved to a part of the country where there are no Sonics....anywhere! I'm going to the store in a little while so I am adding these ingredients to the list. It will be the perfect way to beat the heat this afternoon. Thank YOU!
ReplyDeleteThis looks super delicious. Thanks for sharing....found you via 'Everyday moms meals'

One of my fave drinks as well, I am so going to try this, thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteHow easy! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME! Wish they made sugar free maraschino cherries and I'd be all set. I could drink a gallon of this by myself. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteInstead of using the juice from your jar of cherries, you can buy bottles of just the cherry syrup. I've been doing this for years...add it to lots of different beverages....cherry always makes it yummier!
