Oreo Cookie Balls (+Video)
These delicious no-bake Oreo Cookie Balls are easy to make with Oreo cookies, cream cheese and dipped in a vanilla candy coating!
A NO-BAKE OREO COOKIE TREAT
Each holiday these little Oreo Cookie Balls show up on nearly every potluck table. They are one of those things that are ridiculously easy to make and everyone seems to rave about. I have been known to bribe people with these little gems.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
I’m not sure why they call it almond bark. It’s not made from almonds and it doesn’t taste like almonds. It’s like a chocolate coating. Almond bark can be found in the baking aisle near the chocolate chips.
Until you get used to working with almond bark, you may tend to overuse the amount of you actually need for each ball. So, you may want to buy an extra package of the almond bark just in case.
The store brand almond bark is the cheapest coating to buy. If you can find CandiQuik brand, that would be a better brand choice. I do think that white melting wafers tend to melt better but they are a bit more expensive than the other options. They seem to be easier to use when coating the cookie balls and don’t seize up like almond bark can if you don’t work quick. My favorite brand is the Ghirardelli White Melting Wafers or the Wilton wafers.
You can make Oreo Cookie Balls by hand without a food processor. Place all the cookies in a ziploc bag and pound with a rolling pin until cookies are into fine bits. In a bowl mix together cream cheese with crushed cookies and stir until it is throughly combined (it should look like a thick paste).
If you aren’t eating these right away, just store them in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. These can also be frozen. They will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months. Just make sure to wrap them well to prevent freezer burn.
INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST)
- Oreo cookies
- cream cheese
- vanilla almond bark (or white chocolate wafers)
HOW TO MAKE OREO COOKIE BALLS:
Take the whole package of cookies and dump them into a food processor.
Run your processor until the cookies are in fine bits. If you have to do it by hand, just put the cookies in a large Ziploc bag and then pound them until finely ground.
Add in the softened cream cheese to the crushed cookies.
Continue to pulse the mixture (or mix thoroughly by hand) until is is smooth and looks like thick paste.
Using a cookie scoop, drop small mounds onto wax paper-lined cookie sheets. Put the whole tray in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Just give them time to harden up a bit so they hold together better while dipping in the chocolate.
When ready, put the vanilla almond bark (or white melting wafers) in a bowl and melt in the microwave according to package directions. Usually for about a minute.
Using a fork or spoon, dip each ball into the melted almond bark.
Roll it around and then let any excess drip off.
Put them on a sheet of wax paper to dry. Before the coating hardens, make sure to sprinkle on any colored sugar or sprinkles on top. Once the chocolate hardens, nothing will stick to it.
Allow to set then they are ready to eat!
