A FUN SPIDER THEMED TREAT

If you’ve been following my recipes the last few days, you can tell that Halloween has hit our house! I really love sharing all my favorite Halloween themed recipes with you and one of those are these Halloween Oreo Spiders. Doctored up Oreos turn into a fun and tasty spider. They are fun for kids and adults alike and don’t take too much time or effort to throw together. I love easy and tasty snacks to make for kids! If you want a fun and easy treat, you have to make this super cute Halloween Oreo Spider recipe!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do I have to use Double Stuf Oreos?

I highly recommend using Double Stuf or Mega Stuf Oreos for this recipe as we are sticking chocolate covered pretzels into the center of these. They need to be thicker to have more room for the pretzels to fit and everything to stay together.

Can I make these ahead of time?

These are best eaten the day that they are made but you can store them if needed. Place in a airtight bag and they can be stored for about 1 day.

Where do I find candy eyes?

Candy eyes can usually be found at stores like Walmart where they are located down the cake decorating aisle. You can also find them on Amazon. Use various different sizes for these cookies.

Can I use another chocolate?

If you do not like dark chocolate you can also use semi-sweet chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips or even chocolate melting wafers.

How long do these need to set?

The chocolate on the pretzels will need to set for about 30 minutes in the refrigerator.

How do I store leftovers?

I do not recommend storing these as they are best eaten when made. If you need to store you can store these in an airtight bag where they will keep for 1 day.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST)

  • Double Stuf Oreo cookies
  • pretzel sticks
  • dark chocolate chips
  • assorted candy eyes 
  • red and white jimmie sprinkles
Ingredients needed: Double Stuf Oreos, pretzel sticks, dark chocolate chips, candy eyes and red and white Jimmie sprinkles.

HOW TO MAKE HALLOWEEN OREO SPIDERS:

Line a baking sheet with waxed paper. In a medium (microwave-safe) bowl melt dark chocolate in 20-second increments in the microwave until fully melted. Stir in between melting to ensure the chocolate does not burn.

Using a fork, dip a pretzel stick in the chocolate and allow the excess chocolate to drip back into the bowl.

Place the pretzels on the prepared baking sheet and repeat with the remaining pretzels. Chill the pretzels in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or until set.

When the pretzels have set. Cut 3 of the sticks in half to form 6 legs.

Carefully separate an Oreo cookie in half (gently twisting the cookie shells helps to loosen it). Place the cookie halves cream side up on the baking sheet. Smooth the cream with a butter knife or offset spatula if necessary. Press 3 pretzel legs (cut side)into the cream on one side of a cookie half. Press 3 more legs into the opposite side of the cookie half. Reassemble the cookie by topping the base with the other half of the cookie. Press gently to evenly distribute the cream.

Using some melted chocolate and a toothpick or cocktail stick, attach the candy eyes.

Add a red Jimmie sprinkle to create a mouth in the cream under the top cookie. Add some white Jimmies for teeth.

Continue until all spiders are assembled. Allow to fully set before enjoying!
