Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Whenever you have a good substitute that suits your diet then absolutely use them. Some ingredients that might be good to swap out for low or no sodium options are: beef broth, gravy mix, and canned French onion soup. I am not an expert on those diets though so please use your own judgement when it comes to making those swaps.
Yes, you can brown the pork chops in a little bit of oil first to add more color. Don’t cook them too much though, just brown them quickly.
I like to use bone-in pork loin chops for this that are about ½ inch thick, but you can use boneless pork chops. Just make sure they aren’t the thin cut style.
Yes, this can be made with different cuts of chicken. But, I would use chicken gravy instead and I’d swap the beef broth for chicken broth. The cook time should be about the same, but you can always check the internal temp of the chicken with a meat thermometer.
Since this is such an easy protein, you can add whatever side dishes you enjoy. Try some starches and your favorite vegetables. A big salad and some bread would go nicely. Some of my favorite sides with these Pork Chops for Two are:
– Bacon Brussel Sprouts
– Corn on the Cob
– Air Fryer Roasted Cauliflower
– Garlic Mashed Potatoes
Also, this does make a lot of gravy so it works really well with mashed potatoes, egg noddles, rice, or pasta to help soak it all up! If you are looking for an all-in-one meal, try my Crock Pot Pork Chops and Potatoes.
Any leftovers should be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the fridge. Keep the gravy so it doesn’t dry out while reheating. You can keep leftovers in the freezer for up to 3 months too.

Ingredients Needed: (See Recipe Card Below For The Full Recipe)
- bone-in pork chops – see my frequently asked questions above for different cuts of meat that can be used as a substitute.
- garlic powder
- paprika
- black pepper
- pork gravy mix – this really works best with the pork gravy mix. I suppose you could use chicken but obviously with this being a pork dish, the pork gravy works best.
- condensed french onion soup – if you are sensitive to sodium, please use a low/no sodium option. If you don’t like French onion soup, you could get a can of beef consommé to just double up on the beef broth.
- low sodium beef broth – definitely use low or no sodium with this one since the pork gravy mix and french onion soup already have salt in them.
- cornstarch and water – this is going to be used to help thicken the gravy. Don’t use all purpose flour as a substitute – you’ll end up with lumps in the gravy.

How To Make Crock Pot Pork Chops For Two
Place the pork chops into a 6-quart slow cooker. Season both sides with the garlic powder, paprika, and black pepper. Sprinkle the gravy mix over the top.

Pour in the French onion soup, followed by the beef broth. Cover and place on low for 4-6 hours. Do not lift the lid while these are cooking (they won’t come out as tender). When there is about an hour left in the cooking time, stir together the cornstarch and water. Slowly pour in the slurry while stirring.

Cover and place on high until the gravy has thickened.

Can I use 2 frozen pork chops? I forgot to take mine out of the freezer.
should I put the lid back on after the slurry is added?
replying to myself, I didn’t take my time reading the recipe at the end. Feeling like a dumb A. love your recipes
Never feel dumb here! Sometimes when people comment or ask questions, I probably didn’t make it obvious in the post or recipe card so it always helps me when folks are asking questions so I know if I should write things a bit clearer 🙂
I made this for my husband and he couldn’t stop telling me how good it was. That made my day!! Thank you for this delicious meal.
My crock pot setting are high 4-6 hours and low setting are 8-10 hours. What will the best setting for these chops.
What type of crock pot do you have that you can’t adjust the timing? I’ve never heard of a crock pot only giving you set hours. I create these recipes with specific times so they turn out just right so it’s really important to go exactly by the recipe time.
I can never get pork chops to come out moist and tender. this recipe looks and sounds perfect, especially for just 2 people. is there a substitute for the condensed french onion soup? I don’t have any on hand. Will lipton onion soup work? thanks!
Crock pots really help with pork chops. It’s such a lean meat that they can easily dry out. If you look at my ingredient list above, I give some substitutions for the French onion soup. If you have any salt sensitivities at all or you tend to find canned soups too salty, definitely go with low or no sodium options (you can always add salt but you can’t take out out lol) Hope you love it!
I followed the recipe using a no salt broth. The chops were fork tender and the sauce delicious. My husband commented on how much he enjoyed the meal. Served with mashed potatoes and steamed peas.
Thank you.
These are absolutely delicious!!!
This sounds quite delicious, but one thing caught my eye. I had always thought that a slow cooker needs to be filled 1/2 to 2/3 full. With only two pork chops and liquid, I would have thought a smaller slow cooker would be recommended. Is there a reason that you suggest using a 6-quart slow cooker?
This is an awesome recipe for just 2 people. It’s hard to find recipes for just 2
