FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What is almond bark?

I’m not sure why they call it almond bark. It’s not made from almonds and it doesn’t taste like almonds. It’s like a chocolate coating. Almond bark can be found in the baking aisle near the chocolate chips.

How much almond bark do I need?

Until you get used to working with almond bark, you may tend to overuse the amount of you actually need for each ball. So, you may want to buy an extra package of the almond bark just in case.

What is the best chocolate to use?

The store brand almond bark is the cheapest coating to buy. If you can find CandiQuik brand, that would be a better brand choice. I do think that white melting wafers tend to melt better but they are a bit more expensive than the other options. They seem to be easier to use when coating the cookie balls and don’t seize up like almond bark can if you don’t work quick. My favorite brand is the Ghirardelli White Melting Wafers or the Wilton wafers.

I don’t have a food processor. How can I still make these?

You can make Oreo Cookie Balls by hand without a food processor. Place all the cookies in a ziploc bag and pound with a rolling pin until cookies are into fine bits. In a bowl mix together cream cheese with crushed cookies and stir until it is throughly combined (it should look like a thick paste).

How do you store Oreo Cookie Balls?

If you aren’t eating these right away, just store them in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. These can also be frozen. They will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months. Just make sure to wrap them well to prevent freezer burn.

Run your processor until the cookies are in fine bits. If you have to do it by hand, just put the cookies in a large Ziploc bag and then pound them until finely ground.

Using a cookie scoop, drop small mounds onto wax paper-lined cookie sheets. Put the whole tray in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Just give them time to harden up a bit so they hold together better while dipping in the chocolate.

  1. Cannot wait to make these. I just bought some peppermint bark oreos, but the package is smaller than 16 oz. Do you know how many oreos or in a 16 oz pack?

  2. My family loves oreos, but thought the oreo balls were a little too sweet. For peanut butter lovers, try the recipe with Nutter Butters. Heaven!

I make these at Halloween as eyeballs. Use mini M&M's as the center of the eye and red frosting in a tube to fan out lightly. Kids love them.

I have been making these babies for years! I would have to say the mint ones are probably the most popular next to the original and PB ones. Try putting a Maraschino cherry in the middle of an original! Holy Moly!! Delicous!!

  5. They are really good though the dipping can be tricky with either too much or not enough but no matter really lol. I am going to try some made with Nutter Butter cookies too.

  6. I just found your great site and have enjoyed reading and looking at all the great recipes. I made these Oreo Cookies but instead of using the regular flavor, I bought the green mint flavored Oreos and will be decorating the tops with red and green for our family Christmas Party this year. Thanks for the idea.

I just made these, they're still naked & waiting to be dipped. I know they will be a hit,I had a small taste when I was forming them. Thank you for sharing!

  8. These look wonderful. Do they have to be stored in the 'fridge? We have a grandson in the Army and he absolutely LOOOVES Oreos! I would really like to surprise him with a "love" box that includes these. Do you think they would "ship" well?

  9. Easy to make, delicious in taste! Thank you for giving us such a great ideas to impress our loved ones! I am sure my kids will be thrilled with this dessert…
