Weekend Potluck #49

Welcome back to Weekend Potluck!
It is so fun to see the many different food trends with our Weekend Potluck each week.
We get a great view of what people are thinking and doing based on the food that is
shared each week.
We definitely saw a surge in healthier recipes. Which makes sense since lots of folks make commitments to eat better and exercise more at the beginning of the New Year.
If you are one of those folks then I am cheering you on to stick with it and I think you will find lots of recipes on our potluck this week to help you with that.

I have been getting a lot of emails from folks asking me for diabetic recipes.
My response is always that I do not cook or bake low carb. or low sugar.
I don't really follow any "diet" at all.
The only major health change I've made in recent years is to cut out all soda, diet and regular. That's not to say that I don't splurge every now and then.
But for the most part, I'm a water drinker.
That was probably the biggest health change I've ever made.
I lost about 30 pounds over the course of 2 years just doing that and I felt great.
I also decided then that I would eat foods that I enjoyed but in moderation.
I never get seconds at meal times but I eat until I'm satisfied (not stuffed) and I eat smaller  snacks throughout the day so I'm not starving at meal times.
And so far I've kept off the weight. So I'm going to keep going with what works for me.
Everyone has to find what works for them, right?
There are diabetics in my family so I know it's always a possibility but unless my doctor tells me I need to go on a low sugar or low carbohydrate diet, you probably won't see many of those types of recipes on here. I only share the real foods that my family and I are actually eating each day in our home.
However, we do have Weekend Potluck, and a lot of our friends share those types of recipes.
So I hope you will scroll through these recipes and get lots of ideas and inspiration!

So let's get on with it! Let's take a quick peek back at last week...

Brandie, thanks so much for the feature! I'm with you on the special diet. I don't know if I could do it if I had to but I do eat everything in moderation. When cooking/baking, I always have a large glass of water close by and before meals I always make sure I've had a glass of water. Not sure I could give up my Diet coke though. Some people have a cocktail before dinner, I have a coke after dinner, after the dishes, it's my day is done, time to relax reward.
Have a wonderful weekend!

I love your parties and I loved your comments. When I cook and bake, I use the real thing. Real sugar, real butter and real cream. Nothing else tastes the same in my opinion. BUT...I eat sweets and treats in moderation. I don't do low fat or low carb, I don't use imitation sweeteners. I get tired of the gluten-free, sugar-free, vegan etc recipes. I eat real food and I believe I'm healthier for it.
