Instructions
Preheat the oven to 425° F.
In a large skillet, add the 1 pound lean ground beef over medium heat. Cook and crumble until fully cooked, and the juices run clear, 8-10 minutes. Discard any excess grease.
Add the 1 ounce packet taco seasoning mix, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and 1 teaspoon ground cumin, cook for 1 minute until fragrant, stirring constantly.
Stir in the 1 cup water and 1/4 cup salsa, simmer until most of the water is evaporated but it is still saucy, stirring occasionally for about 5 minutes.
While the beef is cooking, place 8 slices garlic Texas toast on a baking sheet and cook on the middle rack for 5 minutes.
Flip the toast over and cook for an additional 5 minutes or until the edges are a little crispy. You do not want the bread to be soft.
Once cooked, remove from the oven. Press the center of the toast with the back of a spoon.
Scoop the meat mixture onto each piece of toast.
Divide the 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese evenly between the toast slices on top of the ground beef mixture.
Place back into the oven for 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is fully melted.
Serve immediately with your favorite taco toppings.
