Ingredients
Bars:
2 ¼cupsall-purpose flour
1cupgranulated sugar
⅔cupbuttersoftened
1cupmilk
3 ½teaspoonsbaking powder
1teaspoonsalt
1teaspoonalmond extract
5large egg whites
1cupmini semi-sweet chocolate chips
1cupmaraschino cherriesdried and quartered
Frosting:
2cupspowdered sugar
1cupbuttersoftened
1teaspoonvanilla extract
1Tablespoonmaraschino cherry juice
1Tablespoonmilk
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
With a hand mixer or stand mixer, beat all bar ingredients, besides cherries, chocolate chips, and egg whites. Start on low scraping sides as needed, turn to medium once ingredients are combined and beat for two minutes.
Add egg whites and beat again on medium for two minutes.
Stir in cherries and chocolate chips.
Pour into greased pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, until the toothpick comes out clean in the center. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
To make frosting, beat all ingredients together with an electric mixer until smooth and creamy.
