Preheat the grill to 400F degrees. Slice potatoes in half.
Spray a large sheet of aluminum foil with nonstick cooking spray. Place 1 cup of sliced potatoes on top of aluminum foil. Sprinkle with a tablespoon of diced onions (optional)
Dot one tablespoon butter on top of the potatoes.
Season potatoes with 1 teaspoon garlic salt and pepper (to taste)
Then top with 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese.
Top with one hot dog. Then drizzle with about 1/4 cup barbecue sauce. Wrap the packet up by folding in the sides. Continue with the last 3 packets.
Place on the preheated grill and cook for 15-20 minutes (until potatoes are fork tender.)
Carefully open the package and dig in! Top with sliced green onions (if desired.)
Notes
Feel free to use any precooked, smoked sausage with this recipe!
To make in the oven: Preheat oven to 400F degrees. Place the packets on a baking tray and cook for about 20 minutes or so until the potatoes are fork tender.
If you'd like, you can slice the hot dogs before placing them into the foil packets.
