15.25ouncebox chocolate cake mixprepared according to box directions
3Tablespoonsprepared chocolate frostingI just used store bought
16ounceschocolate almond bark
28thin Oreo cookiesfor the back end of the turkeys
84candy corn candiesfor the feathers
56candy eyeballsfor the eyes
28yellow candy ballsfor noses
28heart sprinklesfor mouths
Instructions
After you’ve prepared the cake according to package directions for a 9x13-inch cake pan, allow cake to cool.
Crumble entire cake (using a fork or your clean hands) and put it all into a large bowl.
Stir frosting into the cake crumbs until it forms a thick paste. You may find this easiest to do with clean hands.
Using a cookie scoop, scoop up some of the cake mixture and place on a large parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Roll dough with your hands to make them more round.
Place the entire baking sheet into the freezer for one hour (for the cake balls to harden up so they stay together while dipping in the chocolate.)
Melt chocolate bark in a microwave-safe cup that cake balls can be dipped in. I find this easier to do in batches so the chocolate doesn’t harden before I’ve had a chance to dip all the cake balls.
Using two forks, roll each cake ball into melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off. Place dipped cake balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper then immediately place on thin Oreo cookie on the backside before the chocolate hardens. It helps to have a second pair of hands here so you can keep dipping as they add on all the cookies and candies.
Carefully place on the candy eyes, nose (yellow candies), and mouth (candy hearts placed upside down) in place. I find this easiest to do with tweezers. If the chocolate hardens too quickly, you can add a bit of melted chocolate on the back sides of the eyes, noses, and mouths to act as glue.
Finally, dip the tips of each candy corn in melted chocolate and place three of them on the front side of the Oreo cookie (just behind the cake balls) to create the feathers. You may have to hold them for a bit until the chocolate hardens.
Chill before serving then enjoy!
Notes
You can use any of your favorite chocolate cake mix.
Homemade chocolate cake can be used.
You can make your own chocolate frosting but you only need 3 Tablespoons for this recipe.
