FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I use boneless pork chops?

I like the bone-in pork chops for this recipe. I find that it really gives this dish a lot of flavor but if you prefer boneless you can certainly do that. But I definitely do not recommend a thin cut pork chop. Just be careful when taking them out when they are finished cooking. The meat will be very tender so I like to scoop them out with a spatula.

What can I serve with pork chops?

My absolute favorite side dish with this is mashed potatoes. Rice or egg noodles are also good. I also like to serve it with some steamed vegetables. (like broccoli or carrots) and maybe some Butter Swim Biscuits!

Can I cook this high?

I don’t recommend cooking on high. The meat will not come out as tender. Cooking it low and slow will ensure fall-apart tender pork chops.

Can I use a different cream soup?

You can pretty much us any cream soup your family enjoys. Cream of mushroom, cream of chicken, cream of onion, cream of mushroom and chicken will all work here.

Should I salt and pepper the pork chops?

You could definitely season with pepper but I don’t recommend salt as there is enough salt in the other ingredients.

Can I use fat-free or low sodium options?

Where applicable, you could certainly substitute with those options. I prefer low sodium options here because we’re also using packets of pork gravy and onion soup mix which also have sodium in them.

Do I need to thicken the gravy?

It’s totally optional but I really think the gravy works better when thickened.

Can I use a round crock pot instead of oval?

I find this recipe works better in an oval slow cooker instead of a round one. The chops cook more evenly.

How do I store leftovers?

Store leftovers in an airtight container and put into the refrigerator. Eat within two days. I don’t recommend freezing leftovers.

Notes

  • This is one of those fix-it and forget it type crock pot recipes. It helps to have a digital crock pot these days. You can cook it for a certain amount of time so and then it will automatically go to a keep-warm setting.

I’ve finally found a pork chop recipe I love that’s consistently good. I’ve made these several times over the last year, and they’re a winner at my house!

Hi. Has anyone tried freezing these after they were cooked? I am always looking for recipes I can cook on a big batch cooking day then freeze and just reheat on day I want to eat. Thanks!

I just made this the other night and it was delicious! Plenty of that awesome gravy left over to put on the homemade biscuits I’m going to make.

I’m sure I’m way late to the party, but I made these tonight and they were AWESOME!!! I don’t cook often as I live alone and I’m disabled, so income and abilities can be challenging. That’s why I LOVE my crock pot. This had a great flavor without being to much of this or that. The only change I made, if you can even call it that, is it used a new variety of Campbell’s creamed soup, chicken mushroom. Definitely a keeper.

  5. I goofed. I thought I had the right gravy but I only have onion and I grabbed full sodium cream of chicken. I want to make this but I’m worried about it being to salty with what I have. Would replacing the broth with just water work? I was planning on using bouillon cubes anyway.

  6. anyone ever tried this in the oven? I would like to make it for dinner but cant make it in the crock pot during the week. would oven work? what setting? how long?

  7. I’ve made this before and could have sworn that to thicken the sauce it used to use butter and flour. Do you have the amounts for those direstions?

    1. You are right, the earlier version of this recipe had a butter and flour roux. I had a lot of folks who just didn’t want to go through all of that so I updated it with this slightly easier way to thicken the gravy. But you would melt, in a small saucepan, 2 tbsp. butter then whisk in 2 tbsp. flour (until a thick paste forms), then pour in a cup or so of the gravy from the slow cooker. Bring to a boil to thicken, then add all of that back into the slow cooker, stir, and allow to cook for another 15 minutes. 🙂

      1. Oh that’s what I thought it was but I just wanted to make sure (I really like butter so i prefer to do it this way lol) Thanks a bunch you are the best. And FYI this is one of my family’s fave dinners. The hubby is always asking for it. Plus it’s so easy!

    1. Hi Courtney! You definitely could! I just wouldn’t get a huge pork roast because you’ll want to make sure it can fit in your crock pot and you’ll want to extend the cooking time (by an hour or so depending on the size of the roast)

    1. Did you make this with Chicken? We loved the pork chops, and I was going to make it with Chicken this time, but didn’t know if the gravy mix or cooking time needed to be changed.

  8. I made this last night for dinner and it was fantastic! The only thing I didn’t do (only because I forgot) was the cornstarch at the end. Our gravy was thick enough and it didn’t even need it. Well done!

  9. Made this for dinner and it was delicious. Not too salty and the pork was so tender, served over mashed potatoes. I will be making this again!!

  10. I tried this recipe and it was delicious! Do you think a pork tenderloin would work just as well with this recipe?

  11. SIMPLY TO DIE FOR!!!!! We are going every which way with our son playing soccer and both hubby and I working. One soccer practice night per week is a crock-pot night in our house. We are always looking for something new to try. I came across this on Pinterest and figured we would give it a try. We did thick cut bone in chops….needless to say the bones were not in when we pulled them out…the meat was so tender and just falling apart. Served them over mashed potatoes. There was no chatting during dinner because it was just so amazingly delish. A do-over in our house!!!!!

    1. The gravy mix lends a lot of flavor and also helps to thicken up the sauce. You could try a different kind of gravy mix if you are unable to find the pork gravy mix.

    2. I make it all the time without the gravy mix -husband has gluten allergy so that is the only ingredient I leave out. It tastes wonderful and does not taste like anything is missing!

  12. I really want to make this recipe for my family of 12. Can you bake this instead since my 7 qt crock pot won't be able to accomodate that many pork chops?

  13. This recipe was a hit for my family. I made it yesterday. I was missing a few ingredients. I substituted a packet od dry ranch dressing in place of onion soup mix. I did not have any chicken broth so I filled the Campbells cream of chicked soup can half way with water and poured in the crockpot. Turned out perfect.

  14. This was SO good! I added potatoes and made gravy. There were no leftovers! The pork chop just fell apart. Delicious!

  15. This recipe was very easy and tasty recipe. My husband is a very picky eater, he loved it. Since it only just the two of us, I used two very thick boneless pork chops, they were very tender and juicy. Thanks for the recipe.

  16. I have never made it with chicken thighs but you can certainly make those changes to suit your family. If you do make it, come back and let us know how it turned out for you.
