Peanut Butter Bomb Cake (+Video)

This Peanut Butter Bomb Cake is a peanut butter (and chocolate!) lovers dream! It all starts with a boxed cake mix! So good and so moist!

A PEANUT BUTTER LOVER’S CAKE!

I love peanut butter. Ok wait, I should clarify that. I love peanut butter in sweets. Peanut butter cookies, peanut butter frosting, peanut butter bars, and of course, peanut butter cake. Funny thing is, I don’t really eat much peanut butter outside of that except for the occasional peanut butter and celery.

CAN I USE A PEANUT BUTTER FROSTING INSTEAD?

Absolutely! I have a delicious homemade peanut butter frosting that I use for my Reese’s Peanut Butter Cake that would work great on this cake! I love peanut butter in sweets. And in this cake, it makes the cake so moist and delicious. Honestly, the cake is so good all by itself. The frosting is just a bonus!

A toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake should come out clean when cake is done.

Allow cake to cool completely. Then in a medium bowl, combine chocolate frosting with leftover (1/4 cup) peanut butter. Stir until combined.

store-bought chocolate frosting stirred together with peanut butter in a glass bowl.

Spread frosting onto cooled cake. For the topping you can use Nutter Butter Cookies. Place 4 or 5 cookies (more if you like lots of cookies) into a ziploc bag. And crush the cookies using a rolling pin or other heavy object. Sprinkle crushed cookies onto cake.

This looks like a cake for me. I love peanut butter and yes straight out of the jar. When I ever get a decent place to live, this cake will be made.
    Thanks for the recipe.

Quick question in reference to the cake ingredients, are the water, eggs and oil measurements for a specific brand or are they altered for any yellow cake mix? T.I.A!

I LOVE this cake! My Mom made it all the time while I was growing up! It is one of my favorites! I will say, it is important to use a plain yellow cake mix, not moist or super moist. I usually put 1 1/4 cups of PB in the mix and 1/2 a cup in the frosting because we love pB!

We are making this today! My mother made it for years and I lost her recipe! Thanks to you I FINALLY found it again! I will say we never added Nutter Buttle ters on top and I like to add a little more PB to the frosting but I am so thrilled to finally be able to share this recipe with my teenage daughters to make! it’s been several years……I can’t WAIT for dessert tonight!

    1. Oh my goodness – this makes me cry! To me, there is nothing better than when someone finds a recipe on here that their mother or grandmother made. It just makes me so happy because food is such a special memory that we share with people we love. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a special comment!! 🙂

You saved my life with this recipe that turned out perfect for a birthday during a full blown kitchen remodel. I mixed it by hand, baked it in a nonstick foil pan in a toaster oven in my basement kitchenette.

This is why I subscribe to this site. You are in tune with people.

    THANK YOU BRANDIE!

I absolutely LOVE your recipes!! I'm wondering if you could do this Peanut Butter Bomb cake as one of your poke cakes? Maybe use chocolate pudding to drizzle in the holes?

Just made the batter for cupcakes. This is a winner and must try for everyone. Cupcakes rose and stayed perfect when they baked and cooled. Probably the most moist cake I’ve ever made. Would rate it higher than a 5.

  8. This looks perfect ! I’m supposed to make a cake for my friends 30th Birthday and she is not a fan of chocolate but loves peanut butter.

I was hoping to make it in a round cake though and not the 9×13 pan, can I do that with the same recipe measurements?

    1. I would love to try this cake! Looks and sounds amazing!! The cake mix I have just calls for oil and water. Do you think I can use it, and if so, should I still add the egg? I’m assuming no? (It’s a professional-grade cake mix that has all the eggs and everything in it already). Keep up the fabulous work!!!

I also love peanut butter in sweets but mostly, I'd rather just eat it with a spoon. 🙂 Seriously, I can't be trusted around a jar of it. 😉
