FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

What size plastic cups do I need?

You will need 1-ounce plastic cups. If you want larger sized shots you can go with 2-ounce cups, just know that there will be less shots to go around. You can usually find these cups in same aisle as cutlery and paper plates.

How long do these take to fully set up?

About 2 1/2 hours to fully set. If they are still slightly wet on top when you check them, let them set longer. The more items you have taking up space in your refrigerator, the longer it will take for them to set up.

Where can I find cranberry Jell-O?

Cranberry Jell-O is seasonal but you should be able to locate it alongside the other Jell-O in your grocery store. If you can’t find it, you can use any of your favorite red Jell-O in it’s place such as strawberry, cherry or raspberry.

What is the best way to boil the water to make these?

While usually done on the stovetop, you can also boil the water in the microwave (using a microwave-safe measuring cup or bowl) or if you have an electric kettle, use that since it works much faster than the stovetop!

Can these be made non-alcoholic?

Yes! You can definitely replace the alcohol with water!

How do I store leftovers?

These are best stored with the lids on where they need to be kept refrigerated. They will keep in the refrigerator for up to 1 week. Just don’t put on the whipped cream until just before serving.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST)

  • cranberry Jell-O (can use any red colored Jell-O for these)
  • lime Jell-O
  • boiling water
  • cold water
  • vodka (I used Grey Goose)
  • aerosol whipped cream (Reddi Whip)
  • holiday sprinkles, optional
Ingredients needed: cranberry Jell-O, lime Jell-O, boiling water, cold water, vodka, whipped cream and Christmas sprinkles.

HOW TO MAKE HOLIDAY JELL-O SHOTS:

First, make sure you have plenty of room in your refrigerator to place a large tray of Jell-O Shots. On that large tray, set out all the shot cups and set aside. In a large measuring cup with a spout (or a mixing bowl with a spout) add 1 cup of boiling water and the lime green Jell-O. Whisk until all Jell-O is dissolved. Next, whisk in ½ cup of cold water and ½ cup of vodka.

Carefully pour the mixture into the cups about halfway up (Note: only a small tray is pictured here just for illustration purposes). Carefully place the tray in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes or until that layer is mostly set.

While the first layer is setting, make the cranberry red Jell-O the same way as you did the lime green Jell-O. Mix the cranberry Jell-O with 1 cup boiling water until dissolved then add in ½ cup of cold water and ½ cup of vodka.

Once the lime Jell-O layer is set, carefully pour the lime Jell-O on top in all the cups. (Note: I did some of the cups with the green layered first and some with the red layered first – this is optional) Place the tray back in the refrigerator for about 30 more minutes or until they are fully set.

When ready to serve, top each cup with a squirt of whipped cream and the holiday sprinkles then serve.
