FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do I have to use the whole bag of Fritos?

Some folks put in half the crushed Fritos at the time they make it, then add the other half in right before serving. But you don’t have to use all of the Fritos. It’s a matter of preference.

Do I need to use freshly cheddar cheese?

I love to use freshly shredded cheddar cheese but you can certainly use pre-shredded cheese.

Can I use canned corn?

Yes you can. If you don’t have time to thaw out a bag of corn, then use 2 (15 oz.) cans of corn that are drained really well.

What about other flavors of Fritos?

This is where you can have some fun! Try switching out the flavors by using chili cheese flavor or BBQ flavored Frito corn chips.

Then just before serving, stir in crushed Fritos so they stay nice and crunchy. Some folks put in half the crushed Fritos at the time they make it, then add the other half in right before serving. You do not need to use the entire bag if you don’t want that many corn chips.

This is so funny cause I just had this last week at a golf luncheon for the first time and I didn't even take any until different gals at the table started talking about how good it was. Everyone ended up having seconds and thirds and asking for the recipe. The recipe she used had green, red and yellow peppers and she didn't use any taco seasoning, just the chili Fritos, but I'm sure that would be good also. I will be making this soon!!

With some hesitation, I just made this for todays potluck… Omg… This is so good!
I had to hide the frito bag from my husband to keep him from picking into it.

I made this for our Church's 4th of July dinner on the grounds. It was the hit of the event. I had one person beg for the leftovers and two others that just had to have the recipe. Got lots of "this is great" comments. Thanks for the great recipe. I'll be making this one often.

  4. How many cups of corn in the recipe if you want to use fresh? Local corn is in and I'd like to make this with my leftover fresh corn! 🙂

What a great summer recipe! Never heard or seen this, loved what you said about people taking just a little then wishing they had more! Can't wait to try this, thanks!

  8. This is such a brilliant salad. I also thought it was my mom's own concoction, but apparently she heard about it somewhere! I bring this to every party we go to because everyone loves it…just like you said, a small helping because they think it looks strange and then suddenly the whole bowl is gone! I use the chili cheese corn chips and it adds a ton of flavor!

  9. Love your recipes! Any chance you can add the picture to the print page? It's always nice to see what I'm making is supposed to look like 🙂 Looking forward to trying this for an upcoming office lunch!

The first time I had this was in the early 90's when it was brought to our home for my father's funeral of all things! I turned my nose up at it but finally took a bite and I was hooked. That is the best tasting stuff! Sometimes, when no one is looking I will take out of the fridge and just eat whatever is left straight out of the bowl!

WOW!! This is one of my most favorite dishes! I'm giggling because JUST TODAY….I emailed my sis in love, asking for her version of this dish, to add to my cookbook. I am all about crunch – the chips make this awesome dish. I've never tried it with taco seasoning….sounds awesome. Thanks for sharing another tried & true!! =)

  12. Love this, do you think I can substitute the mayo for something else? Mayo is 2 of one things in life that freak me out!

    2. Oh, I never thought the "original" recipe was hers! I only meant to give credit to where I got the recipe from! But wouldn't it be interesting to know when, where, why, and how recipes originated!?! From Tupperware parties to the internet! Thank goodness for people like you and your Mom that have shared recipes via whatever means! The culinary world sure has come a long way! 🙂 I definitely am anxious to try this version of the recipe with the taco seasoning!

    3. I'm gonna tell ya, I have a small binder that was given to me that has a whole bunch of fun recipes from Tupperware parties. I've tweaked the recipes here and there but they hold some very fond memories for me 🙂

    4. That's awesome, Brandie! I wish I had something like that, but am grateful to you for sharing with us/the world! 🙂
