Something in the water?
How is it possible that after I suffered with kidney stones for weeks, my husband also ends up suffering from one? This man has never had a kidney stone in his life! He’s generally very healthy and almost never gets sick. He doesn’t even like to take pain medication. But this kidney stone brought him to his knees – for real. It makes you wonder though what the deal is. The doctor in the emergency department said he had seen an increase in kidney stones this past week. It could be a mere coincidence but I find it curious.
I waited for 7 hours and never even got seen in the emergency room when I had mine. My husband strolls right in and gets seen immediately. Isn’t that always the way? Men sneeze and the world comes running to take care of them. I feel like women are expected to tough it out and fight through the excruciating pain. Full disclosure: I do not like to go to the emergency room. It is expensive, you get billed by everybody and their brother and it’s kinda scary. This was the first time I had even walked into one in 15 years. So you know it’s gotta be bad if I go into the ER. I was literally crying with the pain and they all just walked past me trying not to make eye contact. I think that irritated me more than anything. “Don’t look at the patients because then they’ll start asking for help.” Anyhow, I could talk ALL day about my concerns with medical care in our country (lack of staff, the cost of care, insurance companies, etc.) but that is for another time and place (and maybe another blog.) 🙂
Life stops for no one
So even though we’ve been a household of kidney stones 😉 we also realize that life slows down and stops for no one. Children still gotta be taken care of and fed. Bills still gotta be paid and there is always work to do. And none of that stops so you can deal with a kidney stone. So, in these times, it is helpful to have a meal plan. That way, you’ve at least got the food sorted out. You can hang the meal plan on the fridge and everyone knows the deal and can pitch in and start dinner! Or at the very least – microwave leftovers. 🙂 I also like to throw a few dessert ideas in there too. Because we all need dessert! Need more recipe ideas?
