What if I can’t find King’s Hawaiian sweet rolls?

You can use any fully baked dinner rolls for this recipe. Many times you can find a store brand copycat Hawaiian sweet roll.

What if I don’t have honey?

The honey really adds to the gooey-ness of the filling. However, you can leave it out or substitute with corn syrup.

Can I add other ingredients to the filling for the pull apart bread?

You can definitely add other ingredients to the cinnamon sugar filling for the pull apart bread to give it your own twist. Some ideas could be chopped nuts, dried fruit, or even chocolate chips!

Can I freeze cinnamon roll pull-apart bread?

Yes, you can freeze cinnamon roll pull apart bread. To freeze the bread, let it cool completely after baking, then wrap it first in plastic wrap then aluminum foil. Freeze the bread for up to 3 months. To thaw the bread, place it in the refrigerator overnight, or microwave it for a few seconds until it is soft.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED TO MAKE CINNAMON ROLL PULL APART BREAD:

  • KING’S HAWAIIAN original sweet rolls
  • light brown sugar
  • salted butter
  • ground cinnamon
  • honey
  • powdered sugar
  • milk
  • vanilla extract

HOW TO MAKE CINNAMON ROLL PULL APART BREAD:

Preheat oven to 400F degrees. Spray an 11×7 baking dish with cooking spray. Unpackage the rolls and using a serrated knife, with the short side of the rolls facing you, make 3 vertical slices, one on the top of each roll, stopping about ½-inch from the bottom crust.

Repeat on the other side but 4 slices. We are forming a cross pattern on top of each roll.

Carefully place the cut rolls into the baking dish.

In a small saucepan over medium/low heat, combine brown sugar, butter and honey.

Stir constantly until everything is melted and combined (about 5 minutes.)

Remove from heat then stir in cinnamon.

Open each slice you made in the bread and spread on a couple of tablespoons of the glaze. Press the slices together to make sure glaze gets distributed on each side of the slices. Do the vertical cuts first, then the horizontal.

Spread any remaining glaze over the bread. Bake for about 8-10 minutes.

While the bread is in the oven, start making the glaze. Whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract.

Once the bread is finished baking, you can remove it from the pan or serve it directly from the pan (be careful, it’s hot!). Spoon the glaze on the warm bread.

    Just made and tried this (like the plate is still in front of me). Yes, this got kinda messy, but boy, oh, boy was it worth it! It tastes so much like Moravian Sugar Cake!

    It is a hit in my home and I’ll definitely make this again and again. But I WILL be putting a piece of foil underneath the pan to catch any errant glaze from now on. 🙂 Thanks for another wonderful recipe!

    I made this for my coffee group yesterday and it was s big hit’! It is kind of messy putting the butter/sugar mix on the soft bread, but it is delicious. One thing is s little confusing in the directions. It calls that mixture the “glaze” but then says after baking to put the glaze on the warm bread, meaning the powdered sugar mixture.

  3. Just a thought – why not slice the bread horizontally first and spread on butter, sugar mixture and then slice vertically. Less messy and challenging.
