Chubby Hubby Bars (+Video)

These homemade sweet and salty Chubby Hubby Bars were inspired by the cult favorite Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. So good!

A SWEET AND SALTY TREAT!

Have you ever had Ben & Jerry’s Chubby Hubby ice cream? It’s vanilla ice cream with chocolate and peanut butter and pretzels. It is creamy and sweet with a hint of saltiness from the pretzels. If you like that combination of flavors then you are sure to love these bars. They are basically chocolate chip cookie bars with peanut butter and pretzels added.

TIPS FOR MAKING THESE SWEET AND SALTY BARS:

  • The fun part of this recipe is you can really have fun with the ingredients. I am using a mix of peanut butter and chocolate chips and pretzels. You can switch it up with dark chocolate chips, white chocolate chips or even add some crushed up salted potato chips instead of pretzels.
  • These bars should be eaten within two days or can be frozen for up to 6 months.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (FULL RECIPE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST)

  • all-purpose flour
  • baking soda
  • salt
  • unsalted butter
  • light brown sugar
  • sugar
  • eggs
  • chunky peanut butter
  • vanilla extract
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • chopped pretzels
  • peanut butter chips
all-purpose flour, baking soda, salt, unsalted butter, light brown sugar, sugar, eggs, chunky peanut butter, vanilla extract, semi-sweet chocolate chips, chopped pretzels, peanut butter chips.

HOW TO MAKE CHUBBY HUBBY BARS:

Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray a 9×13 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray (I like the kind that has flour in it.) Put your pretzels in a sealable bag, and chop them up (roughly). I just pound mine with a rolling pin. You don’t want them to be pulverized. In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking soda and salt. Give it all a good stir with a fork or a whisk.

On low speed, slowly add in your flour mixture just until it is incorporated into the batter. Overmixing the batter can result in a tougher bar.

Add in 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 cup chopped pretzels.

Stir this mixture up with a spoon, batter will be very stiff. Or you can turn your mixer back on the lowest setting until it is combined, just don’t overmix it. Spread batter into baking pan. This stuff is pretty thick so just do your best to spread it out evenly.

In a small bowl, mix together your remaining toppings, 1/2 cup chopped pretzels, 1/4 cup chocolate chips and 1/2 cup peanut butter chips.

Just got done putting a pan in the oven. If they taste as good as the batter…yumm-o!! My hubby will love these tomorrow for Valentine's Day! Thanks for all your wonderful, down home recipes!! I usually have the ingredients and can try things immediately! Love that, Brandie! Thanks.

Thanks for the recipe! My hubby was just wanting me to make some dessert eith pretzeld. Usefu
Tip….use an old cereal bag for crushing the pretzels. Cereal bags are much sturdier than ziplock bags and take a rolling pin beating much better!

  3. YUM 🙂 Hahaha I love the name Chubby Hubby hehe its definitely got all the ingredients my boyfriend would love hehe and i love your chubby hubby bars 🙂

  4. MMMMM…mi vant now!!! I just found you blog and I so proud to say we share the same sweet tooth… Ive got plans, now! Thanks….

Just took them out of the oven…they smell so good. Are they worth a mouth burn to not wait until they've cooled to taste? LOL

  6. Brandie,
These bars are amazing with all of my favorite flavors, chocolate and PB. Then you went and added pretzels, and they are over the top.

Congrats on the Top 9 today!

  7. These look so good that I'm going to try them in the next day or so even though I'm stuck on bed rest for three weeks. (Sshhhh) I've seen this recipe on another blog as well but theirs had caramel in it and no peanut butter. Debating on whether to put the caramels in or not….probably not since I didn't have the hubs pick any up at the store just now. LOL Thanks for your great recipes as always!!!

  8. Myohmy! You sure know how to make my mouth water! No doubt, this is a marvelous and delicious recipe. Love the whole idea of sweet/salty together. Gonna have to make them soon. Thanks Brandie.

They definitely look delicious. This is the kind of dessert that might last a half day in our house. Hubby would eat them for meals, not just as a snack!

  10. I would love to have one of these. I hate it when I see something that makes me drool and I know I can't get the ingredients here. I *could* get them shipped though. 🙂
