Cake Mix Blondies (with Maple Butter Sauce)

These white chocolate Cake Mix Blondies with Maple Butter Sauce are a shortcut version of a favorite dessert at Applebee’s.

AN EASY BLONDIE RECIPE WITH A DELICIOUS SAUCE!

I am always looking for ways to make my favorite desserts a little faster. I have a ‘from-scratch’ recipe for this that I really enjoy. But I don’t make it that often because it takes more time and energy than I sometimes have. So this quicker recipe is my solution and yes, it starts off with a boxed cake mix.

TIPS FOR MAKING CAKE MIX BLONDIES

  • If you absolutely insist on making it from scratch, give my Homemade. Blondie Recipe a try!
  • Also, I am using white chocolate chips and walnuts but you can use any combination of chocolate chips or nuts that you enjoy. This is a fun recipe to experiment with and change up the flavors.
  • If you’d like thicker blondies, just make in a smaller baking dish and adjust baking time accordingly.
  • Updated to add: cake mixes seem to keep reducing in size over the years. They used to be 18.25 ounces and now some of them are down to 14 ounces so baking times will vary depending on the type of cake mix you purchase and how much is in the box. So please understand this before baking. You will need to keep an eye on it. Start with about 15-18 minutes and go from there.

  • eggs
  • unsalted butter
  • white chocolate chips
  • chopped walnuts
  • sweetened condensed milk
  • maple syrup
  • butter

HOW TO MAKE CAKE MIX BLONDIES:

Preheat oven to 350F degrees. Spray 9×13-inch with nonstick cooking spray (I like to use the kind that has flour in it). In a medium bowl, combine cake mix, eggs and melted butter until combined. This will blend easier using an electric mixer.

Spread mixture evenly into pan. I like to spray my hands with a little of the nonstick spray, and then spread it out using my hands. It just makes it much easier.

Bake for about 20-25 minutes, until golden brown and inserted toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool before cutting into squares

So many of the recipes you make are similar to the ones my family always made. I like them all. I don't remember who pointed me in your direction, but glad I listened. Thanks for all your recipes.

I am quickly becoming a fan of these shortcut recipes. They are just as good (if not even better) than the long versions but sooooo much easier! This blondie recipe looks so good!

  6. I'm a lazy baker myself. Yesterday I made brownie cupcakes that Giada made, starting from a box. So . . . good enough for her, great for me.

The Applebee's dessert is one of my husband's favorites. It will score me big "blondie" points if I can make this at home.

  9. LOVE IT!! I think there is a reason they still make box cake mixes & it is SO I CAN USE THEM!! I will be trying this one soon. Thanks for the great recipes! p.s. i will be using the "chubby hand" in mine also! 🙂

I order a dessert similiar to this every time I go to Applebee's. Now I can make this at home without the sizzling plate. What a great recipe and the shortcuts make it more appealing. I can't wait to try this sometime.

This looks alot like that dessert at Applebee's that they serve on a sizzling plate. That's our favorite dessert there. Definitely trying this. It's a big pro to me that it uses a mix!

  12. This is too funny, because just a couple nights ago my husband and I were talking about how I wished I had a good blondie recipe!?! (I've never made them…) Whaala! Here it is! Thanks so much for baking this and sharing with us. There's no shame in box mix! Just means I'll make it more often. 🙂

Who doesn't cheat from time to time?! I always keep a few boxed mixes on hand because you can whip up just about anything with them. My favorite to keep around is the Betty Crocker Pound Cake Mix.

  14. Wow this looks amazing! And a perfect quick dessert, we all have those days where cooking from scratch is just definitely not going to happen. But with a delicious blondie like this who cares!
