Virginia is for Lovers ~ A Valentine's Day Giveaway

I think most of us Americans are pretty proud of the states we live in.
We love being Americans but we are especially proud of our particular home states.
So it will come as no big surprise that I love being a Virginian.
It's the birthplace of 8 U.S. Presidents.
It is the home of the first permanent English settlement in the Americas.
It's also the home to the largest U.S. Naval base.
You can see the Atlantic Ocean, go crabbing in the Chesapeake Bay and then in just a few hours be in the glorious Blue Ridge Mountains.
Plus, we harvest some pretty darn good goobers and make some of the world's finest ham.
To me, it's a pretty special place and I've lived and traveled all over this state.
We are currently settled in Southwest Virginia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Our other claims to fame?
The shows Moonshiners and Salvage Dawgs are filmed right here!

 Totally off topic...
Don't y'all love how the Appalachian mountains are called different names depending on what state you're in?  It's all the same mountain range but we gotta make it our own I guess.
Here (and in West Virginia) we call them the Blue Ridge Mountains.
In Tennessee and North Carolina,  they are called the Great Smoky Mountains.
Up north, they are called the Catskill Mountains.
That used to confuse the heck out of me when I was a kid.
Anyhoo...back on topic...
Virginia's tagline also happens to be "Virginia is for Lovers".
So, with that in mind, I got together with fellow Virginian, Shellie Leete to bring y'all a special giveaway.  A little something special to celebrate Valentine's Day (but you have up until the end of summer to use this gift certificate!).
Shellie and her husband, Tony, own a gorgeous bed and breakfast called the
Claiborne House in Rocky Mount, Virginia.
It's an 1895 Queen Anne style home that is nestled in between the Blue Ridge Parkway
and Smith Mountain Lake.
Seriously...isn't this gorgeous?
Can't you just picture yourself, totally unplugged from the world, sitting on this country porch sipping on some coffee or sweet tea (or maybe stealing a kiss from your sweetie??)

It don't get much better than this.
Every morning, Shellie brews up some freshly ground coffee and lovingly prepares a homemade breakfast. And we ain't talking no Contintental breakfast either.
Shellie cooks up a hearty breakfast for her guests.
They believe the second "B" in B&B is just as important as the first one.
That is, if you can tear yourself away from this comfy bed.
Or this bed...
And when you are well rested, and full from a yummy homemade meal, you can go for a walk, hand in hand with the one you love.  Or head on over to the lake and do some fishin'.
Or take a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Or if you're feeling like a night out on the town, head on up to Roanoke City!
Whatever you do...it will sure to be relaxing and the sights will be breathtaking.

Alright, now that I have your minds dreaming of a mountain getaway, time for the giveaway.
Shellie and Tony are offering up a free night's stay at Claiborne House (a $165 value!)  to one lucky Country Cook reader! Who couldn't use some time away?
(see below for additional details)

And - that ain't all! I'm throwing in a gift as well.
This is supposed to be a romantic evening for two, right?
So we gotta have some chocolate for y'all too!
I'm giving away a Chocolate Gift Basket from Chocolate Paper.
Chocolate Paper is a favorite chocolate maker based right here in Southwest Virginia.

So, how can you win all this?

  5. A Virgina vacation would be great. My husband is a retail manager, so he rarely has time to relax. I'm a middle school teacher, so my days are filled with kids and bringing paperwork home daily. The ultimate relaxation would be to have some time away with each other in beautiful Virginia. We've driven through the state before, but never made a stop.

  9. Sounds dreamy. The hubby and I have been going thru a rocky time... He's never home due to work and I'm one who loves family time and couples time... Well we never get that, and it's really been a few years... Seems to have really made us two separate people instead of of one flesh as the bible says. This would be wonderful!

  10. In the 7 years that we've been together we have never went ANYWHERE together to enjoy ourselves. Not even out to eat much!! He's from VA, so he would love this trip!

  12. Living in Virginia all my life, I am proud to be a Virginian. I live in the northeast part of the state close to the Chesapeake Bay, I would love to win this little getaway. Hubby has had 5 lay offs in 3 years and it has been a struggle just to get by. Needless to say, we could use a getaway. Thanks for such an awesome giveaway!

  17. I was born and raised in Virginia, and I could not imagine living anywhere else. I could use a trip to the Claiborne House, Shellie and Tony are (the only) but best innkeepers I have ever met. I stayed with them before for my anniversary and they went above and beyond to make our trip so special. We are currently in the process of buying our first house(what a headache) and could use some much needed time for ourselves. A nice vacation away from home to escape and enjoy the beautiful setting of the blue ridge mountains. We both work full time and I am also a full time student, I could really use some us time to relax!

  18. Brandie -- My husband and I are plotting a trip southward from Pennsylvania (another great state!) to explore possible retirement locales, Virginia and the Carolinas among those possibilities. This would be lovely!

    ReplyDelete
  19. After viewing the rooms for the hundredth time, I often times find myself somehow at the Claiborne House website dreaming of visiting again, my favorite room would still have to be where we spent our anniversary, the Wash House Cottage or the "love shack" which it really is. It's a private little cottage detached from the house with such charm and beautiful decor. We could really use a trip here to rekindle our relationship that during this tough house buying period has really been like walking on egg shells, it's a lot of pressure and we could use a break.
Ps. I have already liked the Claiborne House on Facebook.

She was their primary care giver, and needs to get away for a break. She wants the two of us to go, and we've both always wanted to do a B&B! Thanks for a chance to win this for her!

  23. I love the Blue Ridge room, but the Sierra suite had a Scrabble board set up and we play Scrabble online together a lot. She said it helped her get through some of the toughest times! Thanks again!

I've never been to Virginia! I could use a night away (but you KNOW we'd have to stay a little longer to explore the state a litte!) because I haven't been on a real vacation in years! We frequently visit and camp at state parks in my home state of Tennessee, but I haven't left TN in at least two years! Crazy, I know!

I am not working either due to my health issues. We live not too far from Claiborne House. We are in Lynchburg, VA. I have been here two years but my boyfriend was raised here his whole life. We haven't had a vacation in 5 years and really need to get away to spend some quality time together without having to deal with all the doctors and hospitals. 111. Wow! I would love to visit The Clairborne House in Virginia! I have never been to Virginia. My husband and I could have a very special 35th wedding anniversary there, that would be a huge and welcome treat! We usually just go out to dinner for our anniversary to the same restaurant about 10 miles away from home. But my sister in Christ and I have been trying to plan a get away also but an emergency always comes up and we can't afford it. I don't get to see her nearly enough, she lives 450 miles away. The Clairborne House is a very beautiful place!

  112. I'd love to have a night away, but since I have a newborn I might just give it to my sister who just finished her treatments for breast cancer :) I think she could use it more!

  113. All of the rooms are gorgeous! But I think I like The Blueridge Room best, the bed is just beautiful!

  117. OK...pinned on Pinterest and Liked on FB! Love your blog too!!

My husband and I have been married 22 years next month. We know how important it is to get away just the two of us, even if it is just for coffee once in a while. Like most of us, the craziness of life often keeps us from doing those things! Time away together would be great! And the chocolate would just be a fantastic bonus!

My favorite room is the Blue Ridge room (amazing) and the cottage is absolutely adorable!! Love them both!!
    Thank you!!

  118. This is a super AMAZING giveaway! From B&B all the way to the chocolate! I would actually love to win this so that I could give the gift to my parents. I have been sick and they have been so busy caring for me and worrying about me. I would really love for them to be able to go. They deserve it! They have been there for me with all of my Dr appts and treatments. I know it would do them good just to get away and spend some time just the two of them.

  127. I liked Claiborne House on Facebook, commented about my favorite room on Facebook, made a comment on the blog. All the rooms are beautiful at the B&B but my favorite place would be the front porch. Such an awesome view and what could be more relaxing than sitting in a rocker sipping sweet tea and breathing in the fresh air.

Thank you Brandie and to the Claiborne B&B for the giveaway opportunity.

  139. Yes, we've had a rough patch! 19 years into our marriage, an accident caused me to have six massive strokes (areas of permanent brain damage). This was 15 months ago. I was not expected to live, but after two months in two hospitals, I am home and my husband and I are still trying to figure out the whole delicate dance of going from husband and wife to invalid and caregiver (think intensive parent/child dependency). We are trying, very hard, to rekindle some sort of partnership under our new limitations, for the feelings of romantic love to follow the decision again! Would be such a blessing to get away, alone together! http://strokeofgrace.blogspot.com/ is more of my story.

  140. I love the picture at the top of the page (with all the roses). Looking at the other pictures, I'm thinking this is The Sierra Suit, which would probably have to my my choice anyway, due to my limited mobility issues and that room looking more spacious than the rest. :)

  142. My husband and I have just celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary. He had total knee replacement surgery Jan 21, 2013, so the timing is bad. We haven't been on a vacation in 10 years. It would be wonderful to be able to get away - even for one night and the B&B sounds so inviting, especially since it's located in my favorite area in Virginia. Thank you for making this special night available to one lucky couple - a night to remember!

  144. I would just love a night away for myself and my guy friend. He has been so blue lately and with me out of work, I can't give him a bit of time away that I know he needs. The drive down I-81 is so pretty.

  145. I like both the Sierra Suite and the Cascade Room. I like rooms with a couch in them.

  146. I would love a chance for myself and husband to win this. We have 3 beautiful girls 2 of which are 2.5 year old twins. We have our hands full and I'm a fulltime teacher and he is in school completing his degree and stays home with the girls during the day. Since having the twins we have lost who we are as a couple. It is all about the kids and we are trying to do more things to find are way back and this would be a great assest.

  150. I am entering this for a chance to win this getaway for my parents. They are celebrating their 53rd anniversary this year (in June). They live in Bedford, VA and this would be a great getaway for them, close to home. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win.

  151. If I win this, I would give this weekend getaway to my parents for their 30th anniversary this year (March 19). They have been working so hard, and they deserve time away to enjoy each other!

  157. My husband and I could really use a vacation. He was recently Medically Retired from the Army due to an injury he sustained while in Iraq. We have been through so many changes in the past few months from moving our 2 small children across the country to trying to find a house and start a life outside the military. We also never had the chance to take an actual honeymoon after we were married so a vacation would be wonderful!
