Cantina Steak Burrito

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming today to bring you a review.
A taste testing, if you will.
I was asked recently to put my tastebuds to the test and give the new
Cantina Steak Burrito at Taco Bell a try.
You know, take it for a test drive, and see if I like the interior and handling and all that.

Have any of y'all tried the Cantina Bell menu at Taco Bell?
It consists of the Cantina Bowl, the Cantina Burrito and chips and sides: guacamole, pico de gallo, roasted corn & pepper salsa, and latin rice with black beans.
It's a whole menu developed by Chef Lorena (a real-life, honest-to-goodness, Latin chef).
The menu seems to have been developed to give that real Latin flavor that folks wanted but couldn't always get from a national fast food joint.
These flavors include freshly prepared pico de gallo, herb marinated steak and
chicken and yummy guacamole.
Side note: have y'all heard Chef Lorena speak?
Seriously, she has a gorgeous speaking voice.
I want to eat all her food just because she sounds so nice talking about it.
I was blessed with one of those slightly annoying voices that can never sound quiet - even when I try.  But Chef Lorena - I think I would actually enjoy hearing her read War and Peace
to me, like all day long.
Anyhoo, enough of my voice envy.
So, we headed on up to our local Taco Bell and decided to give the Cantina Steak Burrito a try.
Truth be told, there aren't many burritos that I don't love.
I love Latin foods, as long as they aren't too spicy.
My poor acid reflux just can't take the spicy any more (sigh).

I ordered the combo. which comes with the burrito, a drink and a side (which is tortilla chips and your choice of either guacamole, pico de gallo or roasted corn and pepper salsa).

The first thing I noticed after actually getting my order is this burrito is huge!
And it is packed to the hilt.

Looks like I'm about to play a burrito flute, huh?

You really do get a lot of bang for your buck. If my boys weren't here to help me eat it, I probably would've had a whole other half to eat for lunch the next day.
Special thank you to my hubby for the gratuitous food-eating shot.

So, the taste?
I gotta say, we all really, really enjoyed it.
It is not spicy at all (my acid reflux thanks you Taco Bell).
There is a lot going on in this burrito but somehow it all manages to blend together really well.  If you try one, make sure you pick out a couple of pieces of steak and eat it by itself.
There are big chunks of steak and the flavor is really herb-y and citrus-y.
Herb-y and citrus-y, those are words, right?
Photobombed by my baby.

Also, I really liked the taste of the Latin rice. It compliments the other flavors really well.
This isn't a tomato based rice like many of us are familiar with.
This is a white rice that is seasoned with mild herbs.
With all the other flavors in here, including the guacamole, roasted corn, pico de gallo, and creamy cilantro dressing, you would think it would be too much but it really isn't.

All-in-all we were mucho impressed.

It is a very filling burrito but doesn't taste heavy or leave you filling heavy after you eat it.
It is fresh tasting. You can also get it with chicken instead of steak or you can also get a veggie version.  Maybe Taco Bell will come out with a Cantina Steak or Chicken taco.
And now, after eating this, I want to give the Cantina Bowl a try.

Oh, and did I mention that Chef Lorena shares her recipes for her Citrus Herb Chicken and her Guacamole over on the Cantina Bell website?
Now I just need the recipe for that Creamy Cilantro Dressing...yummmm.

This post is sponsored by Taco Bell. See how great our steak is when you try the new Cantina Steak Burrito. Because when it comes to a great steak burrito, it's all about the steak.
My opinions are my own and were not influenced by this sponsorship. If I don't like it, I don't write about it.

Hi Brandie! Your little boy is precious! That is a nice picture of you two. I haven't tried this yet either. By the sound of it, I think I would like the chicken version. Did you see the Taco Bell Super Bowl commercial. Hilarious! LOL

So fun to see some pictures of you! You know we all think your son is adorbs! Janie - I liked their commercial too. That burrito does look big. I'm pretty sure my husband would like it since it looks like it would actually fill him up.

Hmmm ... might have to try one after reading your review. :) Great pics by the way! Herb-y and Citrus-y = words I comprehend... and I thank you for those. Planning a 'clone' recipe for us soon? Anyhow - Thanks for your wonderful recipes ... I can't keep up with you ... but my family, and I, are loving the experience!

Pam, I definitely would have said something to the employees about it (which is kinda hard if you went thru the drive thru, I know) but I would've maybe called later and said something. I had tons of meat in mine (which I think is how it should be). And if I didn't have help eating it, I definitely would've had some for lunch the next day. I would love to see a smaller taco size. :) ~Brandie

Brandie!! Ok, I love the Cantina Bowl. But besides all that, I just love seeing your photos!! Pam - I would have said something too when you had the chance. Can't be skimping on that meat! lol

Oh jeez, sorry Pam. I was trying to go in and edit my comment (spelling errors) when I deleted your comment instead of mine! Aggghhh. So sorry!
For folks reading these comments, Pam had said that she thought her burrito was mostly rice when she tried this. So we were all commenting about making sure to say something. Sorry I did that Pam - didn't want you to think I was trying to erase your comment on purpose! ~Brandie

That's okay Brandie. The kids at Taco Bell just might need a bit more training on making the burrito. I've never been disappointed before.

I'm glad you saw my comment Pam! I should not be trusted behind a computer!

I think this is one of those things that I keep looking at and was afraid to try and waste my money. I tend to stick with my usual favorites. Now that you are talking about it - I might be willing to give it a go. Definitely too much for one little old lady like me though so will probably break it up for two meals like you said. Also, I love seeing pictures of you too. It gives us a little sneak peak into your world! Betty
