Fun with Tortilla Shells!

Since many of us have children who are already back to school or are getting ready to go back to school (as is our case),
I thought this would be a good time to chat about school lunches and after school snacks.
If you have tortilla shells on hand, then you have an unlimited supply of lunch and snack ideas at your disposal.

Now, I'm not reinventing the wheel here. Many of you will be familiar with these favorite snacks.

But having a pack of inexpensive tortilla shells, along with some other items that you probably already have in your pantry,
can make snack time just a bit more fun for everyone!

You can use them to make wraps for their lunch (and yours) and you can use them to create fun and easy snacks
for them (and you) when they rush home after school and are ravenous.

I was contacted recently by TortillaLand
They are a company that produces fresh, uncooked, whole wheat flour tortillas.
Yep, you read that right, uncooked. You get the uncooked tortillas from the refrigerated section of your supermarket.
Once you get them home, it takes about 60 seconds to cook them up fresh.

And take a look at the ingredients on the back of the package. I think this surprised me the most.
There aren't any ingredients in there that I don't understand. So I know exactly what my son is eating.
Nothing weird going on here.
I make fresh tortillas myself and I have to say these tortillas puff up and are as soft and tasty as the tortillas I make from scratch.

Now, onto all the fun things you can make with tortillas.
This is just a small sampling of the foods I like to create with tortillas.
The possibilities are endless.

 Cheese Quesadillas

Ham and Cheese Rollups with Honey Mustard Sauce

These tortillas can be found in many Wal-Mart stores, Sam's Club, Costco as well as other supermarket retail chains.  Can't find them? Well ask for them! TortillaLand has created a printable letter that you can fill out and give to your store's Customer Service or store manager to request that they be carried at your local grocery store. Click HERE to view and print document.

Also, over the Labor Day weekend, 250 Wal-Mart locations will be having a major sampling event so folks can have a taste of these fresh tortillas (will be at stores that currently carry the product.) Click HERE to see if a store near you is part of the event.

For another fun recipe and more information, check out this TortillaLand video.
You can see how they cook up nicely and quickly!

You can find TortillaLand on facebook as well as twitter.

And TortillaLand is also having a Sweepstakes now thru October 31st to win a free Ipad and free tortillas!

Enjoy!

I serve the cinnamon chips with fruit salsa. Super easy and healthy :) For fruit salsa, just finely chop an apple, a pear, some strawberries, crushed pineapple. Any fruit you like really. Fresh mint can be chopped and added to resemble cilantro. A dash of lemon juice to keep apples white. And few tablespoons of apple jelly if needed for sweetness.
