It's that time of year again- FALL! And that means apple season.
There are just so many great ways to use apples and my brain just starts buzzing with all the possibilities.
One of the first recipes that always comes to mind are these dumplins. Yes, I know it should
be spelled with a "g" on the end but I always pronounce it as dumplins. So we're going with dumplins.

This recipe is just so easy and you only need one apple for 4 servings or two apples for 8 servings.
And the crescent rolls take on a whole nutha flavor when combined with the cinnamon and butter.
My husband just loves this because he loves apple desserts and I love it because it is easy peasy!

Ingredients:
1 Green Apple (Granny Smith, Golden Delicious)
1 tube (8 oz.) Crescent Rolls
1 stick unsalted butter, melted
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ground Cinnamon (to taste)
1/2 cup lemon lime soda (Sprite or Mountain Dew work good)
| (Vanilla extract not pictured) |
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F degrees
Peel and core apples. Cut apple into 8 slices.
Unroll tube of crescent rolls and separate into 8 pieces.
On each roll, sprinkle with a bit of cinnamon.
Add one apple slice.
Roll it up in a nice little bundle. Continue with next 7 rolls the same way.
Spray an 8-inch square pan with nonstick spray.
Place all 8 dumplins into baking dish.
Mix together melted butter with sugar and vanilla.
Pour butter mixture on top of crescent rolls.
Now take soda and pour it around the edges of the crescent rolls.
Sprinkle tops with a bit more cinnamon.
Bake in preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes.
Serve with whipped cream or ice cream.
Cook's Notes: Just double the recipe and use a 13x9 pan for 8 servings. Also, if you haven't given this cinnamon a try, you really should if you get a chance. It goes by many names but it is cinnamon from Vietnam. It is sometimes called Vietnamese Cinnamon or Saigon Cinnamon. You can probably find it your major grocery store chains now. I found this at Walmart.
It has such a great concentrated cinnamon flavor and I am hooked on it now.
I just love to use it to make homemade applesauce.

It really makes a big difference in taste.
Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteI can always count on you for a wonderful treat that doesn't involve spending all day in the kitchen. Great fall flavors in this one-well done.
ReplyDeleteYou're right! You can't get much easier than this! These dumplins look great!
ReplyDeleteOh yum!! I love how easy these sound. I would prolly have to make 15 batches though to get one since I am surrounded by piggy males :-D
ReplyDeleteI love apple dumplings. I just so happened to be reading this this morning and my Mom called to ask me what she should have for dessert this weekend when they had some friends over. I said...I have something RIGHT here!! So, she is making them!! Can't wait to try myself.
ReplyDeleteI got so excited that you made this and reminded me of it that I pinned it, stumbled it and then left without leaving a note so I had to come back. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for sharing this! Someone brought it to our house for dessert once and I fell in love with it, but haven't thought of it since then. Now I can make it!
Have a great weekend, Brandie.
I made these pre-blogging days with Mountain Dew...so easy and fabulous!!! What a fun and delicious idea~
ReplyDeleteOh I love these. Need to get some fresh apples and get baking!! Enjoy your weekend!
ReplyDeleteThese look great and so easy!! I never would have thought to pour sprite in the baking dish!!

ReplyDeleteWow! What an interesting recipe! I love apple dumplin[g]s. And I love how simple these are!
ReplyDeleteThese sound absolutely delicious! Cinnamon, apples, pastry - what is not to love!
ReplyDeleteI make these all the time and they are a big hit always!! A little variation...I use peaches sometimes too and they are just as awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteMade these Dumplins for my husband on a Saturday and had to make more on Sunday, he loved them! Thanks for one of the easiest recipes ever!
ReplyDeleteMary - thank you so much for taking the time to let me know how these turned out for you! So happy you loved them (and your hubby too!).
ReplyDeleteI made these and they were a hit!! I doubled the apples/crescents but I did not double the butter, sugar, vanilla & soda....and they turned out excellent. Thank you so much for the recipe!!
ReplyDeleteEver since the kids saw The Apple Dumpling Gang, they've been wanting to try apple dumplings. These look so easy and delicious, I just might have to surprise them!
ReplyDeleteI saw something similar to this in a Taste of Home the other day. I tore it out and it's now residing in my "must cook" file. Thanks for sharing at Church Supper and the tip about the cinnamon!
ReplyDeleteEveryday Mom's Meals
Don't know how I missed this before but saw it over at Everyday Mom's Meals, Love it, too easy, I'll be making some this week!
ReplyDeleteJust had to come back and say, these are delicious! The kids request them at least once a week and since we eat twice off one recipe, we enjoy your apple dumplings for dessert with vanilla ice cream twice a week! YUM!
ReplyDeleteJust tried these and love them! I agree about the kind of cinnamon and just so you know, our local Costco carries a huge bottle of it so incredibly cheap compared to what you can buy in the grocery store and it lasts forever.
ReplyDeleteTucson Mom - so happy you liked them! Good to know about it being carried at Costco. We don't have on here but we do have Sam's Club so I'll have to check there next time I go. Thank you so much for taking the time to come back & let me know how they turned out for ya. I really appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteThese look wonderful, and I love the fact that they are so easy! I'm saving these to try some day.
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing! One question....I know they're probably best warm, right out of the oven, but how about when they come to room temperature? I was thinking of making these for a spaghetti dinner at my daughter's school.
ReplyDeleteThese tast just fine at room temperature. In fact, my husband always asks me to make extra so he can take some for lunch the next day. So he's usually eating them cold since they stay in his cooler. To me, they are best warm but he seems to enjoy the taste either way! :)
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight and it was delicious!!! Loved it!! My husband was a little skeptical but after he had his first bite - he said it was very good! Thanks for the recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Star! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know how they turned out for you. I'm glad your hubby gave them a chance..lol!
ReplyDeleteI have a pot luck on Saturday and I am supposed to bring a dessert. I think I just figured out what I'm making.
ReplyDeleteNow I need two appetizers for the pot lucks on Saturday night and Sunday night...
I made them yesterday, super easy super delicious. Used RAW SUGAR and it was awshum!
ReplyDeleteIf your scared of sweet stay away from these. Oh my goodness these are sooooo good. I have taken these to a church supper and none returned home. lol I also baked some last night and had with ice cream. Yum!! Super easy and super tasty. You will never go wrong making this dessert! lol
ReplyDeleteOh my, I just made these! They are sooooo yummy! A little sweet so next time I might cut back on the sugar a little bit. My 5 year old loved them (without the apple LOL). I might have to bring them to our next game night! Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteI made these last Sunday! And, I made 24 of them. I used the cinnamon sugar instead of plain cinnamon and also apples from Mother-in-laws tree. I added about 2 teaspoons of regular cinnamon to the sugar/butter mixture and instead of sprite, I used 7-up! My-my, they were ooohhh, so good!
ReplyDeleteHi :)
ReplyDeleteI've been following your recipes for quite some time cuz they keep popping up on my fb wall and then I just start browsing thru all ur recipes and lose track of time imagining I'd be able to cook them some day :) they look soooooo delicious!
But when I saw your Easy Apple Dumplings I knew I had to try it! But we don't get Crescent Rolls here...is there anything I can replace it with?
I'm SO happy to hear y'all are loving these!! Thank you so much for leaving such nice comments! Maha - thank you! I wish I knew of a substitution that would work for you. I'm just not that familiar with other products from different countries. I guess maybe you could make them from scratch but then they wouldn't be called Easy Apple Dumplings. And I honestly don't have a from-scratch recipe for crescent rolls. I'm so sorry!
ReplyDeleteI use this recipe for gatherings all of the time... with one smal change.. try using Code Red Mountain Dew instead of the sprite... it gives it a kick of cherry flavor...I also add cherries at Christmas.. just to make it look a little more like Christmas. Blessings
ReplyDeleteI have made Apple Dumplins 2 times and had to share the recipe with many gals. Everyone loves it! I did find the Saigon Cinnamon and I think it adds a special touch. Thanks for sharing a great recipe!
ReplyDeleteEvery Sunday, my son and I watch "Once Upon A Time"...Every Sunday, I make an apple dish for us to eat during the show...Being that the main character is Snow White and..well..you remember the story...
ReplyDeleteI came across this recipe because, quite frankly, I stalk Brandie's page daily. She's directly responsible for getting all these kids of mine fed on a weekly basis...but anyway..
If the smell is any indication, we're going to LOVE these!
Just one dumb question, though...What is the significance of the Sprite in the recipe?
Thanks Brandie!
LeighAnne
I was also wondering what the sprite does lol
DeleteWaiting in suspense!!
~Melissa
I love this recipe! I have made it over a jillion times, my family, neighbors and friends just love it! It is so easy to make and puts smiles on anyone who tries them :)
ReplyDeleteYou were so sweet to come back & let me know how this recipes has turned out for you. I am so happy you love it so much!
ReplyDeleteI tried this tonight and it was delicious I will brush the apples in sugar next time, but other then that I will definitely be using this recipe again...
ReplyDeleteI made these dumplins late this morning for lunch. I care-take my parents (85 & 86 yrs. old) and it's not easy to come up with something interesting day-in & day-out. My Mom, Dad & son said it's the best they've ever had! My Mom said, "Send this page link to my sisters, daughter & grandkids; it's that much of a keeper"!
ReplyDeleteMy Dad took care of my Mom until early 2012, when his health started to weaken. He watched me make it and said it's easy enough for even him to make.
Thanks for some of the greatest tasting recipes I've ever found online.
HI Jenny! Thank you so very much! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave a message on here. SO very sweet! I am so happy you found this one to be a "keeper". I hope you find lots more recipes on here that you love!! ~Brandie
