You will probably notice a slight theme this week.
I've been featuring food and drink that would be great for your next get-together,
party, baby shower, bridal shower, book club meeting.
You get the idea.

This next recipe came to me by way of a co-worker a few years ago.
I thought I had something truly unique and top secret.
I thought I had something truly unique and top secret.
It turns out...
Not so much.
I would show up with these at various parties and someone else would show up with them too. But you know it's gotta be a good recipe if lots of folks talk about it and share it with friends.

It's very easy to throw together and folks really do rave about them.
So really, you can never have too many.

Ingredients:
1 stick salted butter
1/2 tbsp. Worcestershire Sauce
2 tbsp. brown sugar (dark or light)
1/2 tbsp. mustard (yellow or dijon)
1 (12 oz) package King's Hawaiian Sweet Rolls (package of 12)
Black Forest Ham, 12 slices or 1/2 pound
Monterey Jack Cheese, 12 slices or 4 oz shredded
Raspberry Preserves

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350F degrees
In a small pot, melt stick of butter with Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar and mustard until thoroughly melted and combined.
Meanwhile, take rolls out of package and slice through all the rolls (while still attached), cutting them in half horizontally.
The glaze is what takes this over the top, so don't be stingy.
Just leave a little to brush on the tops.
On one side of rolls, add sliced ham, then top with cheese.
I forgot to take a picture with the cheese on top, I'll get the hang of this food blogging thing at some point.
Put top on rolls and then brush the tops with leftover glaze mixture.
Place rolls into a baking dish.
Cover tightly with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes.

Slice and serve!
Put out some warmed Raspberry Preserves and let guests slather a bit of it on their rolls.
It is so unbelievably good.
Cook's Notes: I have been known to add a bit of pineapple juice to the glaze mixture when I have it on hand.
Pineapple pairs so nicely with ham. Add about a tablespoon.
Also, feel free to use any type of ham/cheese combo. that you really enjoy.

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea! I love Hawaiian bun.
ReplyDeleteIn the South we use this recipe with Marshall or Parker House rolls. Sometimes with Sister Schubert frozen pan rolls. But I will try the Hawaiian rolls for a sweeter taste.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the new twist!!
Yum...and now I know how to turn a simple sandwich into something delicious!

DeleteOMGosh these look sooo good. I actually have never had these or even seen them at any get together I've gone to. I think I'm going to bring them to our family.s little easter "lupper" this weekend.
ReplyDeleteJust found your website while looking for chicken tatertot casserole recipes and I have been hooked. I'm sitting here almost drooling over all these awesome recipes! I really love how you take a picture of all the ingredients together. I have this nasty habit of somehow missing an ingredient when I look over the list to see if I have everything for a recipe. Having the photo to look at really helps! Thanks so much for your recipes, can't wait to try them all. There goes my diet before it even started!
What a wonderfully sweet comment! That means so much to me that you love how the recipes and photos are laid out. Makes all the work worth it just to hear that! Thank you for taking the time to let me know :)
DeleteYet another fabulous idea! They didn't last long when I took them out of the oven! I have now made several of your recipes and they have gone over quite well! I also love that you do the step-by-step photos so that I know I am not messing something up along the way! LOL
ReplyDeleteI've used this recipe for several years, and everyone loves these melty warm little sandwiches! Please note that the King's Hawaiian Rolls are now smaller than they used to be, so the package of 12 won't be enough to fit your ingredients into. You'll need to buy a 2nd package of rolls and add some from the 2nd package to the first package to fill the baking dish and to fit the ingredients.
